Description
The game is a first-person puzzle adventure game, along the lines of Myst. The story involves a magic camera that can take pictures of a world that runs parallel but opposite to ours. Matter from this world cannot exist for extended periods of time in the other world, and vice versa. If a person remains in the opposite for too long, that world will reject them and they will begin to unravel. You discover the story of a civilization that, through building a portal to the other side, inadvertently triggered a future apocalypse for both worlds by causing them to overlap, which will inevitably cause them to unravel. The soundtrack is mostly electronic ambient, with the exception of The Gift. I used Logic Pro X to compose.

The Gift: This plays as you're reading a letter from your late grandma, that came with an old polaroid camera. I tried to create a wistful tone with a lone piano playing a simple melody.

The Cavern's Maw: This plays as you approach the entrance to the mysterious cavern in which most of the game takes place. I wanted a slightly intimidating feeling, which is why I used low droning sounds. I added the discovery cues in the beginning to add a little bit of mystery. This track also introduces the "mystery" motif.

Strange Images: These are the various cues that play when you discover something important. They play semi-randomly based on what the discovery is. I used the "mystery" motif as well as a few other motifs that are introduced later on.

Investigating the Remnants: This plays off and on during the earlier puzzles in the cavern, before you discover the portal room. I went for a bit of a different vibe for this one, though I think it still fits the late 90s game aesthetic pretty well. I tried to keep it fairly sparse so it wouldn't be jarring with the rest of the tracks, but I also wanted it to be somewhat catchy. It also introduces the "ruins" motif.

Closed Doors: Plays when you are in the portal room. A very ambient use of the "ruins" motif. I wanted it to be slightly strange to reflect the overlapping nature of the two worlds.

The Other Side: Plays when you open the portal. The final bit is a mirrored version of the "ruins" motif and plays as you see someone from the other side come through the portal. This mirrored motif is its own motif that represents the civilization on the other side.

Blurring Lines: This plays during later puzzles, when the two worlds are beginning to fully overlap. I used a warped sounding instrument to represent the fact that reality itself is beginning to unwind. I also used both the normal and mirrored "ruins" motif, to show how the worlds are overlapping at this point.

Because of the type of game this is, I tried to go for a Myst like ambient style for most of the tracks. Enjoy!

How does it fit the theme?
The game tells the story of two worlds, and how they interact and respond to each other. As for the picture theme, the game takes place in a cavern, and I imagine the photos you take in the game would have a similarly inverted color scheme as what flickers on the picture.

Its very clear from the description that you put a lot of effort into conceptualizing when and how these track would be used in a game and what they represent. I think you executed these ideas well and I like how each track is fairly simple and subtle without feeling too sparse. The use of various motifs to connect each track was also a nice touch.

I love it, it has it's own unique style which makes it stand out in my opinion. I could easily imagining the game out of this, and that's very talented of you !
