Description
This piano medley is from an imaginary game.

In this game, you are the spirit of light and peace, but you're overthrown by the spirit of darkness and war.

It's a story-driven and linear-like game.

Bar 1 - 18: The spirit of darkness gets presented. In the small impro sections, you can imagine him destroying small things like flowers and bushes, and in the repeated theme sections, he jumps from one place to another with only destruction in his mind.

Bar 19 - 27: The spirit of light comes in and makes the spirit of darkness go away in a quick battle. In bar 27, the spirit of light manages to get rid of it.

Bar 28 - 38: The spirit of light gets presented. She brings back life to the destroyed plants and animals. Imagine as well a beautiful scenery with huge fields of flowers and mountains with a lot of valleys in the background.

Bar 39 - 44: Shock! The spirit of darkness returns and makes thy sky go red, the plant go gray, and the animals squeeze themselves like sponges. This painful image goes on for a while.

Bar 45 - 60: It's like bar 1 - 18, but imagine the roles of the spirits having switched. The spirit of light tries to return some of the life, going from place to place, hiding from the spirit of darkness. But it's no use, the spirit of darkness has become too powerful.

Bar 61 - 69: Like bar 19 - 27, but this time, it's an epic battle between light and darkness. By the end, the spirit of darkness wins, and the spirit of light has to flee to another place, where darkness hasn't yet fallen over the lands.

This medley only covers the darkest of times, way before the spirit of light regains the lands from the spirit of darkness.

The parts where you can improvise are meant to be either randomly picked by the game, or procedurally generated (Bar 39-44).

Artist comment:
I joined this jam about 26h before the deadline, so I did not have too much time to learn my scores and to record them perfectly, as well as to have multiple tracks. That is the reason I decided to just make a medley, as well as to have parts where I can just improvise.

Still, I had soo much fun doing it.

Theme:

Two Worlds
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The world of light, and the world after darkness fell over it. For more info read the description above.

So cool to see another self-recorded entry (though I always get jealous at people who can actually play the piano)! I feel like it would definitely be worth it for you to invest in some better audio gear cause this is just a really good piece of music. I also really enjoyed your thorough breakdown of your musical ideas, that was fun to follow along.

Developer

Ah, that's cool to hear that someone actually read along with the markings.

Very well composed! I wish the audio quality was better but I saw your explanation below. Between 0:40 and 1:00 kind of reminds me of one of the Queens themes from Deltarune if you've ever heard it, probably due to the harmonic minor sound (and I should mention I love that theme lol)

Yeah, true, you're right haha!

Yeah, it's a pity about the audio. I might (or should) look forward to getting some isolation and better recording gear for the future, as I'd like to share some medleys of movies and tv-series I have made in the past on youtube or something.

Anyway, your comment is appreciated!

I love when music tells stories, very good job.

Love that this was performed and not midi! Really like the ideas overall, especially the use of descending octave patterns to convey heaviness/"mean-ness". Quality of the audio limits the scope of games I could imagine this in, but I think it works well overall. Awesome job, and awesome playing

It's hard to record my piano nicely when I don't have the gear and place for it, unfortunately :( .

Yeah that is tough, the composition really shines through though! so so good!

Awesome work! I love how the music really portrays the story, and you played it really well on the piano. Nicely done!
