Description
the idea for the fake game is over/under, a multi-genre game, in which you do base-building, strategy, management, etc. in the game's overworld and run n' gun, beat 'em up, platforming, etc. in the underworld, so one half of the ost would be more chill and the rest more uptempo rock.
here are two title themes, one for which world (when you decide where to start when the game begins) and one underworld stage. unfortunately, that's all I had time for.
made with deflemask using the arcade (ym2151) chip and various drum samples via the pcm channels.
Artist comment:
thanks for listening! long-time listener, first-time jammer lol.
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
much like castlevania, the game is played in two worlds that mirror each other in some way, but the content of the gameplay changes depending which world you're in

These tracks are brilliant. I particularly like the ‘Underworld’ track, which is driving and full of energy. It’s always great hearing your tracks, and this is no exception. :)
Oh, man, this is great! It captures that retro video game *and* authentic rock feel so well. I think you did a good job of making the "Overworld" and "Underworld" sections distinct, yet connected enough that they could exist in the same game. I hope you decide to take on more jams in the future! 🤘
Thank you! Definitely will. It's an exhilarating mix of fun and pressure ha.
Those were some really cool melodies and very much fitting for a game with retro aesthetics, I think. I'm not quite convinced by the mixing, I must admit. I thought the drums in the first song were a bit loud, as was the rhythm guitar in the last song. I would turn up the volume of the lead parts in both cases, at least relatively, cause they did sound very cool!
Yeah, that's definitely fair. I was hard pressed for time and that got away from me for sure. Something to keep in mind next jam. Thanks for the constructive feedback!
You got the energy down!
Definitely Castlevania-like!
Rockin'tracks! Cool job ^_^.
I love how soothing the overworld and vigorous the underworld themes were. Great composition!
Well that was unexpected
in a GREAT way~dude, the energy in that underworld title theme is insane!
Great old school vibe! I love the underworld title theme.
Thank you! Me too lol. I had just mentioned in a comment below that I always love jamming Van Halen, so the style felt natural to write in.
I love the choice to go with the FM arcade sounds, those are some chonky basslines!
As a bassist, gotta always program tracks butt-end first. Thanks for listening!
Definitely Castlevania :D Yup I can hear it in my mind. It's absolutely fantastic retro theme combined with hardcore JRPG vibe (not sure if that's what you were aiming for), but it's definitely cool! Thanks for sharing! The underworld title theme is especially awesome :)
Thanks! Yeah, definitely a favorite for me, too. I listen to too much Van Halen haha, so felt like a natural excuse to write something in that style for the jam.
