  • This was an awesome submission! It really had a fruit ninja feel to it. I loved the visuals all the way from the login screen to the BSOD. It was all very well done. I also like the upgrade system so there even some progression going on. I noticed a wide range of enemies so it kept all of the stages feeling new. I also saw that there were even more on the GDD that you plan to add. Only recommendation is about the charge indicator. I'll don't think I was ever really to keep an eye on the indicator in the corner. There was an audio cue so that worked half of the time for me. Maybe having an indicator in/around the cursor might be a better placement? Overall, this was a super solid game that I enjoyed playing. Would love to play it more in the future. I hope you enjoyed the jam and will join us for more!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Software Renovate is a 2D action roguelike centered around removing viruses from an infection riddled computer. You must slash and upgrade your cursor to eradicate this infection.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
We decided to take the concept to a more low-level understanding, where you ( the cursor, the most literal representation of the user ) is the only way to kill the enemies

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
we put a lot of effort into the visuals and fitting everything into the setting of the game, but getting some extra feedback in the gameplay and game design concepts would be very helpful!

Amazing work! From idea to implementation - awesome. Great job guys. I absolutely loved the visuals and aesthetics of the game but gameplay was similar to fruit ninja so it was easy to get going. The upgrade system also looked very clean & appeared just about the right timing - not intrusive and intuitive. The BSOD screen was magnificent. Background noise was such a nice detail to it. Overall I think its really awesome game and hope it gets more recognition because this level of polishing is awesome, respect for that. I don't remember when exactly, maybe before upgrades there were small game freezes. Nothing critical but noticeable enough.

Awesome visuals. Love this setting. CHARGE was hilarious. The animations of the mouse, enemies and UI just feels really good. Loved the little bugs and storytelling element. So many little details in each bit. The screen cracking and the ! popups were cool.  You captured the old windows 95, 98 setting really well.

Level 2 really was difficult to get past. So maybe an intermediary between 1 and 2 could help players step up their skills before being thrown into the deep end. But jam tuning is really hard to do so I get it. I think you should also tune the Bugs(ants) with their jump. Make it a bit more apparent with some anticipation attack before they spring at you those were probably my least favorite enemies at of the bunch.

Overall presentation 10/0! Great job!

Really nice style and effects, lots of juice here. I'd suggest making something buyable in the first store, i could never afford anything. Seems like on the 2nd level i couldn't kill things as easily in the first level, maybe it's just my mistake. And i'd rather not have to type the password every time i restart.  but overall this is really well done!

Very cool game! Love the style of it! There's a bit of an issue where the explosion knock-back throws the bugs off screen and I lost because I could not see them getting ready to hop at me lol

Absolutely love this! The gameplay is simple but fun, the progression is neat and the visuals are well-done. I especially liked the mouse's "slicing" afterimage. Everything comes together nicely.

I'm not a fan of the charge meter's positioning on in the corner of the screen though, it would be cool if the mouse cursor itself had an indicator of charge readiness as it's a little inconvenient to have to look away from the cursor.

Awesome submission!

Thanks! I'd certainly agree that the charge indicator is the game's biggest flaw, so the sound cue is our attempted remedy. Glad you enjoyed the game!

Nice game but I wish that restarting were faster.

Holy cow, this rips. Super cool visuals and design, gameplay has a great balance of trying to get a nice slice when charging and bullet hell during recharge. Different enemy types all combine to make a really captivating game. Best I've played in this jam so far.
