  • GDD The GDD is perfect. It explains every single point with clarity and gives plenty of material. Hats off to the team. menu Simple menu, but well-stylized. Good settings, amazing splash art, and soothing BMG The start slides have great art and quirky context. But the switch from art to plain text was a bit jarring and caused a bit of a flashbang situation. I would recommend a background a bit darker, and if the text could be stylized like the old silent movies, it would be a good touch. Or the text could be on the same page as the image. Also, the BMG stopped in this introduction; it could be good to extend it. Gameplay The core gameplay feels great. I appreciate that we have a pause on the space bar or ESC key. Most of the skills feel great to use, with the exception of the single-target ones like chain lightning, spirit bomb, and the basic attack, being sometimes hard to click on my target. My recommendation is to make the basic attack become an auto attack with low range and speed, like a very nerfed tower, and the chain lightning could have a very small AoE target, and if it hits an enemy, it would chain like it currently does, the same with the bomb, but making it stick to the nearest enemy. This would make the player cast the chain when clicking near his target, not exactly on the target. The variety of skills is amazing; they all feel and function differently, and the upgrade system is great too, giving not only more power for the skills but also utility like extra pickup range, activating, and buffing more towers. I loved that the waves are really big, and you can buy upgrades mid-wave, but the slideshows get really repetitive really fast. If it only happened the first time, it would keep the comedic edge and not break the flow of the game. It was at the point that I had memorized how many clicks I had to do to skip the slides and get to the goodies. Sadly this meant skippink the wizard banter too. It was breaking the pace. The development of offensive skills was not "more points, more power," but it also added new mechanics on max level; you can feel yourself getting stronger, and the variety is really fun. The positioning and utility of obstacles are fantastic, and I loved that the map opens up as you progress. The skill use, being on hotkeys, is very responsive and feels fluid. On my first time playing, I already knew what spells should be used where. Great monster variety. From basic gobbos to hobgoblins to armored ogres and clever use of gunpowder mechanic goblins, that clear the defensive obstacles for the horde. The B teleport to get back to the tower feels a bit too overpowered. It would be nice if it had a cast bar to add a strategic use of it. Small things like the AOE of the magic missiles changing according to the range you cast feel great. The walking and attacking being on the same key caused some issues when I was in the middle of the horde; I wanted to move but ended up attacking. When you die, the game just goes to a black screen and needs to be refreshed to work again. A fast-paced restart will keep players engaged. I noticed in the GDD that there are supposed to have ending art at this point, but for some reason, it was not triggered. Art Fantastic, fantastic art. I love the style and the details; it's cute and funny, very high quality. From the characters, the sprites, the spells and animation, the terrain, and the background. Very high quality, great use of the color palette. Aside from my feedback on the menu slides, I have nothing to add to the art direction. Great job, team. Sound design The BGM is really good, but sadly it's only on the menu. There's no BGM while the game is playing. A small loop could help, but there's so much going on that I honestly didn't notice until I had to think about it. The SFX is excellent; every skill, enemy, and effect has its own sounds. A few assets don't have sound, like the towers, but since the map expands and there's a lot of enemies, I think it's a good call; it would become a cacophony of disorienting noises. Target Audience I am the target audience. Get off my walls. Feedback Fantastic job overall. High-tier art, gameplay, and feel. I personally am not a big fan of the raunchy theme, but it was not over the top enough to become an issue. Just adult humor. But as I said in gameplay, the same slide being triggered when you use your shop breaks the pace of the game, and when you have more than one upgrade, you have to do it over and over again. If possible, removing the repetition and making it so the player can buy multiple upgrades in a row would improve an already great game. The biggest issue I had was being able to put down the game to write this review, and now I am late. Also, you can't say E-Girls anymore. The proper term is I-Lady Great job, team; I am impressed.

Yes

Summarise your game!
Staff Only is a defence game where you save the tower from crumbling down to let your wizard keep doing what he wants to do - spend all his money on e-girls and merch all day every day.
Where is he getting the money you ask? Why, it's you! You're funding all this. And you're LOVING it!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
We have taken the theme "You Are The Weapon" literally and made the playable character the weapon.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Please pay attention to how much love we put into it.
For feedback could we get confirmation on whether publishing a game early means that you cannot replace it any more?

I kept moving when i meant to be right click attacking on enemies, maybe increase the area around the goblin so you don't accidentally move. Started with chain lighting and died pretty quickly. Not sure if I can buy stuff? or is that afte the first round? Just didn't feel powerful enough to get past the first round. The art looks great and there's a really nice foundation here, great job!!

I won!  Chain lightning was the way to start!  Fireball was good for mid game, and the possess bomb was my favorite late game

Really liked your game. Good Artwork, good SFX, really cool game Idea, liked the story, and most of the attacks and upgrades and map progress/reveal. Also a very good name ;)

But I was totaly let down by the absolute worse control - scheme i`ve seen in a while. could not handle it. movement of the staff sucked, ALL the TouchAreas of Buildings and Wizard tower were way to small.

Also Control UI elements look like really bad. You should have spent at least a tiny amout on that.

Why is my RMB attack not an Auto attack? And has at least a litte bit more range?

A control scheme i would have prefered would be:
Movement of the Staff with WASD, and than rotate through the attacks with 1,2,3,4,5.
Enter Shop/Wizard Tower(s) with E when you are next to it.
Maybe Q for going "QUICK" back to the Mage Tower

So i am kind of angry that your really good game was so let down on the two things, UI/and Controls.
Sorry if my critic sounds harsh but i think you would have had way more potential with this!

Well done! Still had fun with this!

Glorious fun! I love the personality and fun you clearly had making this. Movement and attacking both being on right click is a little awkward and I had an issue with the sound glitching but that might be on my end. Amazing job and well done!

Really fun game! Nice art and love the unique abilities. Chain lightning, spirit bomb, and vortex were all really satisfying. Nice work!
