Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes
Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes
Summarise your game!
Turn based RPG heavily leaning towards crafting and strategy theorizing. Travel space, gather stuff, create parts, and fight baddies.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The Mothership is the ultimate commander. Everything that moves does so from its command, and there's no reasoning once you're in its sights.
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Combat was a big wall in development, as there's so many skills and options I couldn't really hit the nail in balance. So, above all, is combat fun? Did learning three years of geometry crammed into two weeks made the Stars look pretty?

The idea and style behind the game instantly caught my attention. Very striking and great use of colours.
It is very clear that you have spent a lot of time planning all the elements of this game out, and you have managed to scope everything perfectly in the GDD, which by itself deserves some credit.
The use of multiple different perspectives is great, I especially enjoyed collecting the resources, but that's just my inner Minecraft nerd coming out.
I would have liked to see an in starter tutorial at the beginning of the game, but I do recognise that you have a help menu with lots of info so that did help to mitigate that aspect.
Great Job, I only wish I had more time to play the game further
It’s really not an issue, I’m very grateful for the quick response, and now I’ve got two reviews to boot!
A more interactive way to ease players into the game is one of the priorities for the upcoming revision, so that’s definitely a good observation. It’s a relief to see that the very much in-depth planning made it through. I did my best too with the color palette to try and emulate those old fancy computers that had the orange glow further exemplifying that I’m a dinosaur, haha.
Thank you and the rest of you guys, again, for the amazing work you pulled off!

GDD
Perfect GDD, plenty of details and images, and there's even a glossary at the end. What a nice touch.
Gameplay
I could separate the game into 3 sections. Exploration/navigation, resource gathering, equipment fabrication, and combat.
At first, I was confused with the exploration; there's no tutorial in the game. But after I messed around with the buttons, I figured it out, and the game became more fluid. The tracking mechanics saved me a lot of guesswork I had to do on my first playthrough. Something to ease the player on those mechanics would be welcome.
After you get to your destination, the gathering process is straightforward. By sending the little robot to collect resources, it felt like another game, in a good way. For something so simple, there was a lot of polish. The resources are used to craft weapons and components to upgrade your ships, and this mechanic felt pretty good. This whole section is very grindy, but that's the essence of RPGs like that.
Combat makes the game switch over completely. It becomes a classic JRPG, with very in-depth mechanics. I would like to see an easier fight for the start, so let the player know what to expect. And the touch of death not being the end, but a setback, was awesome.
There's so much game in this game.
Art
Amazing art direction. Every section of the game has its own style. The free roaming made me feel like i was inside the ship, the gathering like i was remote controlling a drone, and the combat was just a treat. Different style, great art, everything meshing together. The color palette is great.
The menu is very fleshed out and stylized, and hats off for the intro.
Sound design
At first, all you have are space sounds, so not much BGM. In this section, some SFX when you accelerate pops up. For the gathering, the SFX is nice, going from node to node. Now in the combat, the BGM and SFX shine. Amazing blood-pumping music, responsive and well-polished SFX. What a treat.
Last thoughts
What a fantastic experience. Like I said, so much game in this game. The only thing I would recommend is a switch of pacing. The game, as it is, is amazing; I wanted to spend a good hour on that. I know the game is deep enough to keep me going. But for a game jam, we simply don't have all this time. Being slow to start and having to figure out the mechanics takes a lot of the little time we have, so it can be counterproductive.
I did give a lot of time, though, and I loved the experience. Please keep developing this game; I want to see it on my Steam wishlist soon.
Great job.
I really appreciate the very detailed review and the very kind words! I wasn’t expecting such an in-depth look; I’m very aware the sheer amount of games to review against the usual “slow cooking” style I always end up doing, but you really went above and beyond!
I will definitely continue to try and flesh out this game, there’s lots of ideas floating around and hopefully just around the corner!
Great entry. Love the music, art, and sfx! They really lock in the atmosphere of a space exploration game. I enjoyed the battle and wish I realized sooner the idling will let them heal but it's my fault for missing the info in the how to play. Collecting the resources was cool but I only did one planet with the time I had available I was left feeling like it needed some type of stakes in order for it not to feel like chore. Maybe avoiding enemies or a puzzle? I loved navigating the map I mean your just really nailed down the experience and aesthetic. It really felt like I was a ship commander. Great jam entry! You did so much and did it very very well.
Thanks for trying it out! You’re actually totally right, the help system is not very intuitive and it will be improved, as will the gathering. too! I’m glad you enjoyed it for the most part, it was indeed a big project to tackle, and hopefully I can improve it soon.
This game is so cool! Really love the RPG like space exploration thing you have going on here. Love the starfield and traveling between the different sectors. The combat was fun IMO and I really liked the current ways you can build your ships. The UI was cool and I loved the combat music. The only thing I think was interesting was I could kinda just choose to avoid combat if I wanted and kept thinking I would encounter something random while floating in space. But that's just my two cents.
Your art style was old school and vibed well.
Really loved this one. Great job
Really appreciate the kind words! The ‘retro pc’ kind of aesthetic is for sure my favorite so I’m glad I was able to make it interesting. There’s certainly a lot of room to add extra content to every aspect; it ended up being quite more “ambitious” than I accounted for. I will definitely try to flesh it out a bit more. Thank you for the suggestion!
Congrats on finishing the jam! I'm really impressed by how much you were able to get done. This is very polished great job!
The art is solid, the sfx and music really work well to give you the scifi feel. The battle music is a banger but the game in general is quiet so when entering battles the loudness change was difficult - I had it turned up to hear the ambience but then it was too loud. Maybe some balancing to do there.
I liked the UI and it fit the screen well, but some on screen prompts for what to press or do would be nice. I found myself a little confused a few times, specifically with the resource gathering.
I liked researching materials and recipes and gathering resources to build things, but I think it would be nice if there was a bit more of an obvious equipment tree with the items. For example wood -> iron -> steel. Maybe it's just the scifi setting but it might help. That or locking more materials and items behind progression as it's a little overwhelming at the start.
I found myself not really understanding the stat assigned for each ship. It might be helpful to have a glossary somewhere or integrate it into a tutorial of some sort. Generally speaking I think a tutorial or gradual easing into the game will solve most if not all problems.
Some other ideas:
But yeah, overall a great polished game! Looking forward to where you take it!
I really appreciate the detailed feedback! I was able to catch you live and it was really helpful watching how the game flows. Thanks for taking the time to test the game!
Your sense of style remains unmatched, what you can do with RPG Maker is like genuine magic. I did feel that the gathering materials was a little on the tedious side, but it was still genuinely really a fascinating thing when fully put together
Thanks for the kind words! Glad to see that the effort paid off, I really love this engine and love to try weird stuff with it. I do agree with your appreciation; Couldn’t find the resources to allocate more content into the gathering part, so it’s a bit ‘bland’. In any case, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for trying it out!
Great theming and world building... but i got super lost trying to find a planet. I thought selecting one on the grid would set my course but it didn't seem to do that? But of the parts i saw of the game it looks super polished and like a lot of work. Good job!
Thanks for trying it out! Yeah, selecting a place in the grid sets your course and shows you the “Distance” meter. Once the distance meter is below 500, press the button in the middle that says “Locate Target” and it should show you the target on the screen for you to click! It’s basically the same for every object in the grid. Thanks for letting me know! I’ll make sure it’s better communicated when I update it.
Well Done! I'm impressed with how much there is to the game. I'd say may favorite part is all the UI. The possibility to do whatever from the start is a lot to take in, made it slow for me to learn.
I always try to avoid flat out giving instructions, but it’s really hard to get to a sweet spot of “intuitive” design, I’m sure I could’ve done better. I’ll definitely try to make things easier to understand once I get more feedback. Thank you for playing it!
Really awesome game design! Loved the user interface, quite charming. The star field and atmospheric sounds are very immersive. Nice stuff! Followed!
Thanks for trying it out! There was a lot of work put into the atmosphere of it all, I’m glad it turned out well.
