We apologise for the late feedback:

I appreciate that your game page lists the current bugs/issues with the game so that players know what to expect. It is difficult to tell if the game has frozen or if you have died since there is no indicator that you have died. I auggest that you add a "You Died" or similar pop-up to allow the player to know that they died. The music stopping on death is a bit abrupt, so I suggest that you either tone the music down or change it to a different theme. The concept is neat, and I do like how it played, though the controls are a bit too sensitive. A slight mouse movement can cause you to rotate more than intended and cause you to have to restart the level.

In your GDD, you do not list the development software you used, music, or art credits (if any). It's difficult to tell how much of the art or music you did yourself without this information. The layout is good, if a bit simple. This is not bad: the game is fairly simple by design, so it can be appropriate. I like that you had goals to introduce story to the game, but without seeing your timeline and stretch goals it's hard to see where your time might have been lost or poorly spent. This would be good information for you to have in the future, so I recommend putting a trackable timeline in your GDD in any future games you make (jam submissions or not).

I feel that your game will be a lot of fun once you solve the bugs and tune the turning aspect of the character model. I hope you continue developing the game and put it out there for others to enjoy.

Hmmm, finally completed the game and it's actually quite fun. I do like the whole gameplay loop, and with a bit more polish and fine tuning, it can really become something remarkable. Probably some auto platformer like Runner or similar games.

There are a few places where the game can quickly improve on, so I'll go one by one. The most significant one is the short time-pause effect when defecting the bullet. Although it's very cool, the game doesn't not start directly from the pause, but rather skip a few frames after the pause is done. This results in a very unfair feeling of not knowing if I am turning correctly until I am dead/alive. (Notice I am not complaining about the mouse rotation thingy here). I would say just a simple fix of a true "pause" (a bit shorter too) and allows the player to react and rotate before the next bullet spawned would be a huge win.

The second one is the lack of UI especially during death. Some screen of saying "You died, press R to restart" would be a very nice addition to the game.

Some other minor issues such as the human enemy lingered too long on the weapon, lack of UI to show what to press (preferable some image with 1 = shield, 2 = knife, 3 = arrow), etc I will not elaborate too much as they are just polish at this point.

Anyway, I see you put a ton of effort to the game and I hope you keep on developing games. Keep on the good work!

You said it right, but the lack of the time is what caught me off. Fun fact: I added all the levels of the game just an hour before the jam was gonna end. Leave the UI and Polishing part, getting the levels work perfectly fine was big of a task for me. Thanks for your feedback, this means lot to me. You can also check out my other games(If you want).

After I died I kinda just stuck on that screen and had to refresh it

You have to Press R to Restart the game

I like the feel of deflecting the projectiles. That feels nice and juicy.

Developer

Glad you liked that!

The mouse movement being connected to the X axis made this game trickier than anticipated, but it was also an interesting challenge.

Having to switch between weapons and shield on the fly made the levels feel intense. I especially liked the moments were the bullet would hit the shield, causing time to slow down just to see the bullet being kicked back. It was an awesome touch.

The retry button was also very appreciated. Made things very convenient, especially in a game like this where you're going to die a lot. The different items that you're supposed to slash definitely caught me off guard, like having bananas and apples kill me; but it was funny.

If anything, it'd be interesting to see an iteration of this with some variation in the scenery and music, but it felt to me like a fun challenge. Cool game!

Developer

It finally gives me the breath of peace that more and more people are being able to complete the game and not showing rage on mouse movement. Thanks for taking out time to comment!

I beat it, I am a real game expert. It was fun!

As for feedback, the knife and arrow feel like afterthoughts, they don't really feel like they fit. The base reflection mechanic is so damn satisfying once you get the hang of it you could design some really cool levels around that alone. I could even see this being turned into a rhythm game where you need to reflect shots to the beat, that could be cool. Its a very neat idea!

Developer

Respect++ Sir! I really added them as filler for the game.

Very cool concept. I like the impact feel when you deflect a shot with the shield, with time slowing down and all that. The controls (specifically with the shield section) feel a bit awkward to me: by instinct I would want to do some kinda circular movements with the mouse to rotate the shield, but here I'm supposed to move it left or right to rotate. That really throws me off during the harder sections.
I couldn't progress further than the first couple levels where you have to deflect shots, but would certainly give it another try, this is very cool!

Developer (1 edit)

Glad to hear you liked the concept. I agree that rotation movement is a bit unusual which is because of bug in the code. I wanted to fix the bug but unfortunately I can't make changes in voting period. I hope others will also figure out how to play the game馃槄.

A very difficult game to play. I didn't even clear level 2. It might have been easier to play if the weapon was rotated towards the cursor position instead of translating the mouse x delta into a rotational offset.

It is a really well done, simple implementation of the theme, and I quite like the idea :)

Developer

Sorry for unusual rotation with mouse. I was in hurry to submit, and unfortunately the bug came along with the game's submission馃槥

No worries. Happens in a jam. :D
