  • I grabbed your game as soon as I saw it. Duck Hunt, one of my faves and a perfect fit for the theme of this game jam. When you said in your description, "some quirks" I did not expect the gun not to shoot and you to then...hurl your dismembered arm which then regenerates and goes again?! LOL wild. Quite a few quirks along the way that make it quite a creative interpretation of the first game. I liked the old TV going bad feel of the lines across the screen. It added to the overall twisted nature of this game. The sound design and music was good though a tad loud/abrasive. Volume sliders would help with this. It was a bit too difficult for me to get very far into the game. A missed shot affecting my health was a bit too rough. The ducks coming in slightly slower waves would help as well. Adding a bit of lore at the beginning would be cool. Something like, "We got an old copy of duck hunt! It's a bit twisted but maybe it'll still work." And then to explain the gameplay, "Just shoot the ducks. Easy!" And then you find that it's twisted and not as easy as you recall. It feels like the TV or the game have been possessed in comparison to the original game and that's so cool. I want that emphasized a bit more in an introduction of some kind. Great submission for the game jam! Good game design doc. This was really creative and well done. Thank you!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Duck Hunt, but with some quirks. Use your mouse to aim, left click to shoot and get as many points as you want!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The game fits the theme by having the player take control of a hunter that's hunting ducks. Not only is he a weapon against the ducks on his own, but he does become a weapon himself in the literal sense as well.

The game has a really simple premise, of just hunting ducks. But I really love the twists you added to the game! The art and music are amazing, the sound effects and death animations also add a lot to the game. Though it would be appreciated if there was a setting to turn down or up the music and sound effects.

I love the transitions in both the music and the game, to become more “trippy” and crazy as the game went on, the music also became way more intense which was great! I really liked how you change the initial gun into a hand that can literally fly out, to a leg, then feet, or tentacles etc. They are really amazing ideas and add so much depth and fun into such a simple game!

The screen animations like the flickering, and the duck death animation are so well done.

My only issue was the difficulty of the game. I managed to make it to 35k points, and the game didn’t really seem to be getting harder. There was also no punishment in simply letting the ducks go. It seemed weird to me that you lose the game missing a shot, rather than letting a duck go. A personal opinion, but I feel changing the 3 shots so that you have to reload after 3 bullets, and changing it such that if the duck “escapes”, you lose a life, would be a better gameplay mechanic.

The game has a lot of work done into making the animations, transitions as well as the music fit the game. Which is amazing to see in a short game jam, though I would have liked more gameplay content, the work and effort done into making the game feel smooth more than covers up the lack of content. Amazing job!

Fun game! I loved how intense the screen would get as the game progressed. Something that I noticed though was that there was no punishment for not shooting the ducks, and that the game didn't really get harder after 20k points. I ended up just purposefully missing a shot when I felt done. I think having the game get harder would make it more engaging after a certain point. Overall, I did enjoy the core gameplay, and the animations of the screen changing and ducks getting shot at along with the sound effects were great!

Developer(+1)

Wow, that's an amazing score! You're going on the leaderboards!

You're absolutely right about the difficulty. There's three things we plan on implementing for the post jam update:

- Ducks will progressively spawn faster and flying ducks can move faster

- Missing a duck makes you lose a life

- An actual enemy duck

The last one is a bit of an incognito, but we're almost done with the other two. We hope to make the game feel harder, but not unfair in the start. Thank you very much for playing our game and leaving such a thoughtful comment, it truly means a lot to us!

Those sound like great changes! I like everything else about the game, but making the game progressively get harder is definitely going to enhance the experience.

I loved the art and atmosphere of the game, I got myself a solid 21500 points. Even had me thinking about playing Duck Hunt on the NES with my sister when I was a kid so you nailed capturing the essence of Duck Hunt. Very cool game and I'm surprised there were so many weapons lol

Developer(+1)

Oh, that's a very good score! It puts your name in the leaderboards, hunter!

Indeed, the arsenal of a dunt hucker must always be varied, for they should be prepared to face any situation. After all, dunt hucking can be an activity full of peril...

It's really heartwarming to know it gave you some sense of nostalgia, though. I'm very happy to know you enjoyed it (and to anyone who hasn't played Mythikal's game, what are you waiting for? It's quite heartwarming. Give it a shot😉).

Thank you so much for playing and leaving this comment. It means a lot to us!

I remember when I used to play duck hunt in my childhood! Glad to see it's spirit is still alive (deranged and possessed, but alive). This little and game is as simple as it can get, but then again so was its spiritual predecessor, and I really love it. I don't know why the team decided to make it hilariously deranged, but it adds a layer of charm and personality that really makes the whole thing even better. The hitboxes are nice, the art is amazing, the playability is addicting and the leaderbord will drive me nuts. So freaking good.

Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! When the update comes out, I think the leaderboards will be a lot more fun to go for (but quite harder to get high scores, I think...)

Dunt hucking has its fair share of derangedness. But we don't talk about that with our hunters. :)

Thank you for playing and leaving such a thoughtful comment. It truly means so much to us!

That's fun, good game bro. xD

Haha! What a great idea, and well executed :D

Jood Gob!

Developer(+1)

Yhank TOU for dunt hucking!

A fun little fever dream. I'm sure you're already aware of this, but it does get repetative with no difficulty scaling, so I just stopped playing eventually.

Developer

Indeed, the difficulty scaling isn't quite good enough yet. We felt a bit hesitant on the possibility of making it too hard, but ended up falling into the other side. We got changes planned to remedy that, though!

I hope you managed to get some enjoyment out of it, though. Thank you so much for playing the game, and especially for you feedback! It's really appreciated!

What a weird fevered dream I just played. That’s pretty incredible to do this in two weeks. I will say it gets a little repetitive after 30k unless I’m missing something.

Still, that was an experience. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Attention: dunt hucking can cause many side effects. Hunter's discretion is advised.

And yes, I agree with you! The difficulty progression right now isn't quite good enough, so we've got a couple of tweaks for the next update that should make the game a bit tougher and more exciting.

We really do appreciate the feedback, though. Thank you for the feedback and for playing the game!

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, I've managed 27500 in score

Developer

That's an amazing score! Oh, wait, what's this...

Look! That just got you a ticket into leaderboard town!

Seriously, thank you so much for playing the game and getting such a good score too. It makes us happy!

The grass is on fire and the tree is pulsing. My arm has changed into 10 different shapes of duck ending instruments. Things couldn't get better. Most surreal thing I've played thus far. Great Job!

Developer

Nothing like pulsing trees and fire grass to get a good headstart on the day. Thank you for dunt hucking! 🫡

This game is so whacky 🤣🤣 I thought all the duck animations were funny, when they spawned and when they got hit. The sound effects also, it sounded so varied and I felt bad for hitting the ducks. I don't know why the player kept morphing or change themselves into different attack modes but that was funny to see. And, I wasn't sure what was going on when the whole grassy area turned into a purple blaze 😂 there was so much happening in this game, that it was a joy to see them all! I thought the art was spectacular - very stylized. Well done!!

Developer(+1)

Wait, the blaze is purple??? I THOUGHT IT WAS RED

I'm so glad you had fun with the game, though. We plan to do some more stuff for an update, and then maybe work on a proper Steam version with a lot more stuff. Who knows what kinds of curses that'll bring into the game...

Thank you so much for taking the time to play and to leave your thoughts. It's always really appreciated by us!

Submitted(+1)

I like the look of this game. It always feel good to see such effects while doing what the player would do the most in the game. There're always more to add, but the current state of the game isn't so bad. Well done.

Developer

Thank you! My brother spent a whole day making the shader effects, and I think it paid off!

There's a couple of things we're gonna tweak and add in an update, for sure. But I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of the current version.

Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Omg this is hilarious. I love it. Oozing with charm. This is absolutely cursed in the best way. The only addition I would make would be to make the birds change colour (maybe blue) if they continue flying upwards when hit, I psyched myself out so much trying to "shoot" birds I already had gotten.

Developer

Sometimes, dunt hucking can bring a curse or two to our hunters...

Also, very good point about the ducks that have been already hit. We're gonna look into it!

Thank you very much for playing the game and leaving some feedback, it's very appreciated!

Submitted(+1)

Such a good Duck Hunt clone. So beautifully absurd. I got scared when the sky started to look like Giygas. My high score was 21,000

Developer(+1)

Wow, that's an awesome score! You're taking the bus to the leaderboard club! (Also, always nice to see a fellow Mother fan)

I'm very glad you enjoyed dunt hucking. Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Put me in the camp of "sucked at this, but had fun anyway"! Great work on the CRT effects!

Developer(+1)

If you had fun, even if for just a minute, then we've done our job.🫡

Thank you for taking some of your time to check the game out. It means the world!

Submitted(+1)

Omg, this is such a wild ride, I love it but I hate that I'm so bad in it! xD I send it to a friend, though, who loves (and actually is good) in those kind of games. But I looove the style. I feel like I'm back as a child, playing an arcade.

Developer(+1)

It's actually really sweet that you felt like you were playing an arcade. Makes us smile.

Thank you for sharing our game and for playing it, too. It means a lot!

Submitted(+1)

Really fun game! Love swapping between the different weapons. Got a score of 13k!

Developer

I'm very happy that you like it. And wow, that's a good score! To the leaderboards you go.

Thank you very much for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Great aesthetic! I love all the random creepy events, adds a bit of dark humor especially when your arm changes to a real life one.

Developer(+1)

Turns out that dunt hucking sometimes has its quirks...

Thank you so much for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Solid very polished piece of art. Just really vibed with the glitchy aesthetic, and the randomness of the duck sounds animation and background morphing, Great arcade fun.

Developer(+1)

I'm very glad you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for taking some of your time to play our game and leave a comment, it's really appreciated by us!
