Guys if you see this comment just remenbering yall im fairly new game dev, 3 to 4 months into gamedev, and yeah ty all for the constructive comments

Cool concept. Maybe make the enemies move a bit faster? Was waiting a while to move them away. Also enemies are kinda hard to see.  Had a lot of fun, fits well with the theme like the assets!

Developer

Ty! Happy you enjoyed it!

Echo location is such a cool idea and mechanic! Really inspiring tysm :'''')

This game shows promise, considering it was created from a newbie dev! However, there are a few areas that could be improved. It would have been beneficial to discourage mindlessly mashing the space bar by implementing a cooldown or energy mechanic. Additionally, having a health system for the player would have made the game less frustrating, as accidental collisions with enemies resulted in instant death! also for tight spaces or buttons placed in a linear hallway! >:(

Implementing a radial echolocation mechanic, even if it didn't reveal the entire visible block, could have added an extra layer of depth. I understand that time constraints may have limited what could be achieved within the time limit so I will cut some slack!

Overall, this game is already pretty cool, and I appreciate your efforts, especially as a new game developer. The art style and animations are impressive, particularly the charming cartoon design of the bat and monsters. The strategic element of luring the monsters away from the button was enjoyable, although incorporating an attack or dash mechanic could have enhanced interactivity.

Keep up the good work and continue exploring new possibilities in your future projects! ^^

Ty! yeah im fairly new to gaming dev, 3 to 4 months idk sure but yeah, and yeah i died sometimes bc the monster blocked the way on the final button, i did not think that much on level design but i still thinked a way to the player to do it, i died just a few time and the game is fairly easy id say :P

The game has potential, the player should be a little faster, also maybe some sort of feedback when going blind would be good, like, to know what you are colliding with and not just feel like you are in an empty void. Good job with your game and good luck with your game dev journey.

Developer(+1)

Ty! i had before that of when player hits a wall it appears but idk it was a little bugging so yeah i removed it!

This was well executed for being a fairly bare-bones implementation. There probably needed to be some sort of disincentive to just mashing the space bar, whether that be a cooldown or something like an energy mechanic, to avoid trivializing the mechanic too much. I also think it would have been nice if the player had a health system so that the enemies weren't one-hit kills. I feel like, based on their design and behavior, it was fairly clear that they needed to be avoided, but because of how they moved, it was a little too easy to hit them accidentally, and adding a little forgiveness to that would have been nice. It would have been cool if the echolocation revealed objects radiating outwards, and not even necessarily showing the entirety of the visible block (perhaps using something like a shader script), but I understand that's probably too much for a single person in a 48 hour jam. This was a very cool game as it is, though.

Developer

Ty! i mean i am new to coding, i know nothing about shading so yeah it was not a totally viable thing to do in this jam!

This is a solid entry for someone that's very new to gamedev!

It was an alright experience to me. The echo not being on some kind of cooldown made it fairly trivial to get a feel for the map, and I think the player was too slow which made it annoying to maneuver around.

Again, though, this is a fine entry for a game jam :) I hope you keep at it and make new stuff as time goes on!

Developer

Ty! yeah i will!

Submitted

That was.. suprisingly stressful! The rythm and the slow movement makes you feel kinda weak, and the ambiance fits nicely, well done! A great entry, especially for a “newbie” gamedev, keep up the good work!

Developer

Ty! yeah i just started 3 or 4 months ago!

I have to say that for a "very newbie gamedev" your art style and animation is impressive. I love the cartoon style of the bat and monsters. On the gameplay side of things, I enjoyed the strategy of having to lure the monsters away from the button at the end in order to press it. I think adding a sort of attack or dash would make it a lot more interactive and interesting, but I think it turned out great anyways! Keep up the good work :)

Developer

Ty! yeah, i probally will work on it after this jam ends (bc currently working on another game, not for jam but yeah)

Haha! The music made me crazy! But I like the concept! Good implementation of the theme! I miss something more to do than just find buttons. Maybe some different types of manoeuvres or something? And a  completely black background made the level somewhat disorientating, but that actually works with the theme ;)

Developer

Uhm it made you crazy in a good way? and ty! and about the background yeah i maybe shouldve putted a real background not just a color

Submitted

Unfortunately, no. 😅 Maybe some variety could help or maybe it was just me (or just one of those days 🙈).

A complete black background is not a good idea in a game where you clear darkness, it gets a bit disorienting, but I like the idea of the enemies that follow you and how you have to be smart about avoiding them.

Developer

Oh well ty! but yeah about the background maybe i couldve putted a real background and not just a color idk!

Submitted

I like the "arcady" feel of it. That artwork is nice as well. The music is very cute!

If i had know that the spiders didn't follow me when i didn't use the echo, it would have been nice :D

But all in all, good job

Developer

yeah i probally shouldve done like the Space and WASD but with the monster with like a symbol of sound or idk but yeah they have no eyes, i probally like i said have done a tutorial like the Space and WASD bc if you see closely they have only ears and mouth

Submitted

I dont see why you cant just spam the Space ability, otherwise fun game, very well made for a "newbie" ;)

Developer

Well yeah id say im newbie because i just made 1 game before this and its not that good but i enjoyed making it and this one, im still learning to code lol

but yeah ty!

Submitted

The audio isn't very good and if you just spam the echo button, the game becomes incredibly easy

Developer

yeah i thinked about changing or lowering the echo sound but i decided to not, and yeah the game becomes more easy by spamming

btw i really liked your game

Submitted

thank you ! sorry for the harsh comment

Developer

Nah relax, im very newbie dev and its great to see like more harsh comments i think, bc i know truly what i did wrong.

Submitted

Even though the echolocation to see mechanic is common in this game jam I still think its nice. I think maybe there should have been a cooldown on the echolocation though, so that the player cant just spam the space bar and see everything on their screen all the time.

Developer(+1)

I mean, i did this fact that there is no cooldown but the monsters only follow you if you do the echo, so its not just spam cooldown and you win, you dont need to be the bests to finish the game because its actually kinda easy to dodge the monsters but i did die some times to the monsters but yeah its a little more easier by spamming the echo and try to just avoid the monsters, i maybe couldve did the game longer and think better of some things and add more places but yeah i decided to let it really small even though i had 1 day left.

This is my second ever game but i hope you enjoyed it even if it was bad or easy or idk!
