This game is SO FREAKING POLISHED. I really liked it. Literally everything was awesome. The title screen alone is so sick. Great job!

I didn't find the game to be that hard once I figured out the mechanics lol

The art style is so good. I like how tiny the player is.

(And the music goes so hard, too :D)

Submitted

Also, just wondering... what did you use to make it?

Developer

Thank you! I use Construct 3. 😊

NO WAY! Same!

Super polished game, cute sound and visual effects, overall challenging,

Developer

Thank you for your kind words! ^_^

This is SUPER polished!! It feels like a demo to a complete game, which is really really good for a game jam entry.

I accidentally found some cheese really early on though that made the difficulty of the game really trivial, though. If you jump and then press z -> x in quick succession, you can functionally create infinite platforms for yourself and ascend upwards anywhere. If this cheese was addressed somehow, I could totally see this being converted into a full 1hr experience or something if there were more levels :)

Developer

Yep. I'm fully aware. I didn't have the time to fix this and instead added some hidden coins to collect. ;)

Submitted(+1)

When you pause the game you can still jump, and create/destroy echoes, you just can't move.

If you press fast enough z-->x-->z like, really quick you can actually have 1 extra echo.

<--Chilling with my three bros.

Great game with awesome music and art.

Developer(+1)

Haha! Yes, there are some issues with the menu system. And... you found the bug in the echo creation! XD Nice screenshot. ^_^

That was really clean, and the art was gorgeous, I always love small character in pixel environment, it fits so well! The character feels reactive, the jump is nicely done, and having to time your echoes precisely makes it the right amount of challenge, well done for that. Really nice entry overall, that was a refreshing adventure

Developer

Thank you for your kind words! I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time, but I'm getting there. Slowly but steady ;)

I liked it ! The art is good (even if everything is a bit tiny) and the mechanic is interesting and works well. The player controls does feels a bit harsh sometimes, the jumps are pretty unforgiving

Developer

Thank you! Yes, I went for a fairly default character control. I guess it could need some tweaking. :)

This was great! I actually kind of wish there was more. This is insanely well polished in just three days, the platforming felt goof and the art looked great.
I will say though, I don't know if this is intended but you can definitely get infinite vertical height by quickly pressing jump, z, then x in that order repeatedly. It makes creating puzzles for this game quite difficult since the player can move vertically any amount with no need for platforms.

Developer

Thank you! Well, I found out some exploits in the end and didn't have time to fix it. So instead i hid some coins different places for the completionists ;)

it is a bit tedious to wait for your clones to disappear once you messed up, but other than that, is a very cool game! I liked the music too

Developer(+1)

Just press Z, my man ;)

I know I should have put it in the gameplay somehow, but it tells you in the about menu and in the pause menu. I bet the game feels tedious without the possibility to destroy the echoes. All the flow disappears! ^_^

I really enjoyed playing this one!

The music and particle effects add a lot of life and colour to the game, and my only constructive feedback would be to balance the difficulty a bit. Some parts of the game were too easily handled by just jumping on the echoes while other bits had slightly longer sequences to replicate if you missed a jump.

Just a bit more polish and this could be a shippable little gem!

Do check out our game Reverb. We'd love to hear your thoughts: https://itch.io/jam/pjp-game-jam-2023-1/rate/2079583

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I agree with everything you write ;) Don't know about the gem bit, but it was fun to make. My first game that was not a test. ^_^

I loved the art, it reminded me so much of risk of rain 1, the character controller fast, but thats probably good. again, the art is amazing.
you do have a gameplay issue as you can get infinitely high with two echoes, i completely skipped the "moving platforms" thing by just jumping on the two echoes

Developer

Thank you! I have heard that a couple of times now. I didn't intent on that. Just found a palette of 16 colors and stuck to the limitations. :)

You can actually get as high as you want with only one echo too (create echo, jump, destroy echo, create echo, land on echo). Some issues I didn't have the time to address. Thank you for your feedback!

I genuinely enjoyed this game! It fits the theme exceptionally well and showcases a high level of polish. The game's originality and well-executed mechanics were impressive. I particularly loved the art style, with its stylized simplicity that was executed superbly. The music choice was also a great fit and added to the overall experience! :D

However, if I were to offer some constructive criticism, my main concern lies in the game's difficulty balance. On one hand, there are challenging aspects, such as the moving platforms, which could have been tweaked further for a smoother experience. Then on the other hand, due to the lack of a cooldown for spawning echo characters, it becomes quite easy to exploit the game mechanics. Once you acquire two echoes, it becomes a matter of cheesing the game rather than engaging in enjoyable and challenging gameplay. I strongly feel that some adjustments should be considered to address this issue. For example, implementing a cooldown between echo spawns or introducing a punishment system for excessive echo usage within a level. I understand that finding the right balance can be tricky, but based on the quality of this game alone, I have confidence that you can tackle this challenge!

Overall, I had a pretty good time playing this game. While it has some flaws and kinks that need to be addressed, it's a solid little short platformer, good job!

You, man man, is a great game reviewer/critic (speaking for everyone here)! Thank you for your words and feedback!

I agree with the difficulty, but when I understood that I only was able to create 3 levels, I thought that level 3 should be quite hard. :P And I agree with the platforms. Maybe there should have been one button for each plattform or something?

I intensionally left some exploits and instead hid some coins in places you should never be able to reach. But I thought that would be fun for speedruns or something. I didn't have time to do any more. A cooldown mechanic would fix some of it, I guess. :)

Submitted(+1)

firstly thanks for the praise haha! glad to see everyone being so friendly with their feedback and responses! also i fully get the 3 level thing, with such short time I'm surprised about how much polish all the games (including yours easily top 5 most polished in the jam) have!

Regarding the platforms, I understand your point. Personally, I think simplifying it to one button for the platforms or adjusting the speed of the platforms could make the gameplay experience smoother and more enjoyable. Another possibility could be tweaking the jump mechanics to make it feel slightly more floaty, providing players with better control. Of course, these are just ideas off the top of my head, so please take them with a grain of salt lolll.

Ah, the exploits! It's always amusing to discover those intended "unintended" tricks in games. The placement of coins now makes more sense to me, considering their connection to the exploits. If you plan on creating more levels, I would suggest being mindful of that and other exploits and either implementing a cooldown mechanic or designing levels that take them into account.

Once again, fantastic job on your game! I'm genuinely excited to see what you'll come up with next. Keep up the great work, and best of luck with this and future projects!

I enjoyed it, it was very original but i just think that the gameplay is a little boring, maybe its just for me because i dont play that much of platform game but yeah overall i enjoyed it.

btw you can skip moving platforms by just doing the echos to climb up, u maybe shouldve put a roof

Developer

I intentionally kept some exploits and instead hid some coins in places you should never reach. ;) But yes, I could have designed the levels better. But you know... time. ;)

Difficulty wise, I found the moving platforms part a little too hard, maybe you could tweak it a bit. Other than that, the difficulty was pretty good. I think the art style was good. Btw, I think the game could benefit from adding some coyote time.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! Some coyote time would fit nice, I guess. :) I myself had no issues with the platforms if I timed it right and used the echoes to get high enough. But I guess I have played the game way too much to have a saying in this. :D

It's better if you get the opinion of several people. keep it up!
