This one gets theme pun award for me 😝🏆
I found the mechanics very interesting and the dialog and visuals engaging. Really cool what you put together, congrats!

Really unique gameplay with beautiful artwork!  I enjoyed the fun dialog, and attempting to catch as many arrows as possible.  It was a bit unclear why I needed to catch the arrows (this may have been explained in game), as it seemed there was frequently a similar result.  If this were a full game, it may be fun to have the enemies move about a bit, making capture a bit more difficult - but I love the bones of what is here and chuckled more than a few times at the dialog currently present.  Thank you for the fun submission!

yeah, it is not super clear at the moment. I want to add some partials that move towards the timer when you collect.

Collecting an arrow extends your time by 0.5 seconds. Currently, the time until the suspect drops increases by 1 second per level. So early on, it is not critical you collect many. But as you get into the later levels, you need to collect almost every arrow to succeed. If I continue to work at it I will try to make this more clear and work on the progression.

Great game Gamma! Had a ton of fun with it.
Loved the usage of pdDialogue to give the briefings before every level and add a bit of character!

pdDialogue saved me a ton of time. It pretty much just worked. I need to actually take the time to look into everything that is there. But I really appreciate you releasing it.

I really love the creativity involved with this game and think that it has a lot of potential. I also do think that the game does increase with difficulty as it goes in. I love that while playing, your past self actually gets in the way of you completing the mission and the end goal of winning. I think that the current character design and story is really great and I can see potential for even more in a full game.

Suggestions/critique:
- I think one main point that I would have liked to see is more creative bosses to capture. Capturing the same spider over and over again gets a little old after a while. I do understand that it would be difficult to make multiple character sheets and sprites but I personally would have preferred a few levels and then waited for more content.
- With moving the fly with the Dpad, I could really see that this game could use the crank to move and could even have more fun with it too! For example if you really wanted to push your past self out of the way you could crank faster to do so.
- For a full game with multiple enemies to capture it would be cool to have a scrap book of all the bugs you've captured. This would be great so that you could look back at all the excellent storytelling you did with the case files!
- It would be nice to have a "Restart" button on the menu screen. And also a button that could be used to return to the top menu of the game.
- If there are multiple levels in the next game it could be nice to have a level select on the menu for the game.

Again, you have a wonderful little game that has  great artwork and story. I can see this game getting a lot more polish and fun content. Thank you for your submission!

Thanks for playing and for the feedback.

yeah it was definitely my intent to make each level unique, with a new character, a story that progresses, and different level design (arrow patterns, maybe new mechanics like things to avoid). If I continue after the jam, that is the direction I will try. I am not fast at doing the profile and main sprite, so given the time constraints of the jam and working along it just got away from me.

Right now there is 1 second added the the release timer each level. So more and more arrows are needed each level to make it to the capture. So it does get harder and eventually mathematically impossible.

If punning on the theme was the objective, this would win hands down! That aside this is still a novel and fun proof of concept, great stuff!

the art during the dialog scenes is fantastic!

also really liked the concept of having to collaborate with your past self a lot and thought it was extra interesting that the past version can still be “bumped” rather than having it just exist as a ghost. I feel like this idea in general could have a lot of legs

i like the name time FLIES- I get it ---a fly! nice concept! minimalistic fun .. I can see more items being added (fly related) but i understand the time constraints of this jam. unique game!
