The game was really fun! It was hard to understand what my “buff” choices were in between rounds at first. I think that’s fine since you’ll ultimately get it by playing it, and it’s a rougelike. I do think there should be a quick in-game explanation of the bat as I completely missed that till my third run!

Wow, the game is actually incredibly fun I forgot I'm playing to rate I just kept on playing :)
The art looks really good but often I'd find myself lost in the map and having to look for where I am, it does add to the chaoticness of it which I enjoyed a lot.
The audio and menu are very well done it feels professional and clean.
One thing I thought would be good is maybe if the map would be bigger and you can move around it with walls and etc. because after a while being in the same square got repetitive for me. Besides that really well done and good luck.
Gameplay is really fun! Only complaint is the upgrades are a bit confusing at first
Performance in browser play was fine. I would recommend to add some introduction where the game play functions are explained. I was too lazy at first to read the instructions on the web page, so I missed out on the right click feature. :D
The amount of extras one gests after the (boring) first round is confusing. Simply too much at once, not well explained. Make this increase gradual, but cut the first round shorter.
Fun game!
Game play is fun shooting and melee feel responsive and weighty. The short range and reloading makes it difficult but I assume upgrades would fix this.
I couldn't really try out upgrades though since I encountered a bug where i couldn't upgrade anything, when i hovered over it nothing happened no description appeared and clicking it did nothing. Then it worked after i click skip but after i clicked reroll again it stopped working and if I do make a selection after skipping the next upgrades are also unclickable.
I tried refreshing the page and few other things but I couldn't get it to work.
I also encountered the not dying bug but also sometimes I would get the game over screen and restart button not sure on that one.
Platform: Browser, Mozilla Firefox
But aside from the bugs the concept is good and it is well made good job!
Sure thing. Video and step by step process. I also tried on Chrome same bug but all the test below are in Mozilla Firefox
This step by step recreation is not from the video it's another test after opening a new instance of firefox
- Open Mozilla Firefox browser tab https://ravernt.itch.io/time-to-strike
- Wait for load and click 'Run game'
- Click 'Play'
- Beat first level
- Transition into upgrade/choose ability
- Unable to click or hover over to see description
Note how cursor over icon but nothing happens
- Click UPGRADE INSTEAD. Same bug. Reroll upgrade also doesn't work
- Click SKIP which also didn't work. But it did work last time as soon as I clicked it.
- Click SKIP again which worked this time
Trying again after refreshing page with different variation
- Beat first level
- Transition into upgrade/choose ability
- Unable to click or hover over to see description
- Click REROLL which now work
I have no idea but every time i refresh or try to recreate i get slightly different results?
Really nice start to a game well done, the look of it and the game juice and feel are amazing! The game seems to just stop when I die, and I feel a bit overwhelmed by all of the different upgrades etc... I think maybe the player should just make one upgrade option each time it comes up. I feel like this could be a great game though well done keep working on it! :)
This is a very fun game. I would say I have a few points I would like to cover, they aren't ordered and some may be a bit nit-picky. I will focus on what can be improved on but this is a great game.
- The start is a bit confusing - I know it will probably be a future thing to add but some sort of tutorial at the start would be useful.
- I would say work on minimizing your word count for the descriptions of the power-ups. People are lazy, and excessive reading breaks up the flow of the game. Increase the number of keywords you use, and decrease overall text. Breaking the description text into bullet holes can do a lot for readability as well.
- You can't seem to die? I would assume it's a wip thing.
- The art fits the theme but I would say the power-ups can use a more explicit icon related to what it does.
- I find it can be hard to keep track of all the power-ups and modifiers you acquire, especially considering there are several categories. Maybe consider down-sizing the number of categories available and working the same power-ups into the existing systems. This is a fast-paced but relatively simple (read: elegant) game where it will only get better if you can keep a narrow scope of focusing on the flow state that the player easily falls into once the actual gameplay begins.
Amazing game! Different enemy, ability, upgrade types definitely open up so many possible playing experiences, synergies and interactions! Also polish and responsiveness is amazing as well. I loved fast-pacedness of the game and I think it was some really fun time to spend!
Super cool game. Really enjoyed the variety of abilities/upgrades available! Nice level of polish too. Found it a little confusing at first with all the different stats but figured it out after a few rounds :)
