reads like a very nice short story.
I think I might've commented on this before voting started? Anyway, I still like the concept and the way it's written, the atmosphere of this postapocalyptic multiversal oasis. If anything I find myself wishing the interaction structure pulled together a bit more - there's almost a loop here of finding out about each character by serving them, and it could be nice to expand on that a bit. Though I like that it doesn't get bogged down in more complicated gameplay - the character concepts are allowed to be the main attraction. The ending did feel pretty abrupt but I assume that's due to time constraints. I guess what I'm saying is I'd read more...
This is a fabulous concept. The fragments of the songs are mingling in and out of the party, as one should at a great party like this.
There are some moments where it isn't clear who is speaking but maybe that is by design.
Overall, my favorite entry to this jam. I stopped paying attention to the art, which is lovely, but instead focused on the writing. It's moody, concise and deeply engaging.
5 Stars. Well done!
Thank you for playing & for your thoughtful comments!
Honestly, my favourite of the jam so far. Super enjoyable, great writing and cool concept!
One small typo: “cigarette at the end]of each day.”
thanks for your kind words & for spotting the typo!
This was maybe my favorite narrative that I've seen so far.
That first jolt of the main hook - that all the characters were one person - was so fun. I loved that you didn't shy away from implications of it - that a congenital disease for one might mean one for all, that both romance and lust would exist, that personalities could be both very similar and wildly different and you can hand-wave it. I was really taken by the world created.
I did feel it was SUPER linear, instead of something more interactive, but that the narrative held up enough to justify it.
For me, the images didn't add too much - i think the overall darkness of them didn't lead to the maybe unsettling feeling you were looking for? 1-bit dithering is hard! I was excited to see it though since it was another game in the Jam that had that aesthetic.
Hey! Thank you very much for your kind words & I'm glad you enjoyed the story :)
Believe it or not, this was actually supposed to be a Twine-in-Decker game vs. a faux Decker aesthetic in Twine... but I was running short on time and the learning curve on using Twine in Decker was too steep :( maybe next time, as I love the hypercard look!
Interactivity is a fair point and also another thing that suffered due to time constraints - thank you for the notes and I will keep it in mind, as that's definitely one of my weaker points!
I like the images but I feel like they'd fit better if the colour scheme matched the passage rather than just being black-and-white? I guess this being meant to be a Decker game makes sense.
