Really fun and exciting game! The animation, art and scene directions were awesome and the writing came off so wonderfully natural and compelling!

The DnD vibe throughout was alot of fun and had my forever DM self, burst out laughing on a number of occasions πŸ˜‚

Awesome work, highly recommend!

My one criticism is that I wanted more Bucks!!!!πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

Well done!

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience playing this! The characters had such distinct and vibrant personalities. Their dialogue made me giggle many times. The variety in sprite expressions/poses/actions, especially of the main villain, always ensured I had something interesting to look at. The music was always perfectly suited to what was going on. Last but definitely not least, I loved the movements and animations, especially during fight scenes! Incredibly entertaining! Congrats on making such a solid and well-rounded jam entry!

AHHHHH THANK YOU!! I'm really happy to hear this!! Thank you so much for typing up your thoughts and giving my game a try! πŸ₯°

I'm glad you enjoyed everything, particularly the dialogue. I had so much fun writing a lot of their lines and banter πŸ€ And thank you for the kind words about the animation! That ended up taking me the most time out of anything in this entire game LOL So I'm really happy it could be entertaining for people.

Thank you so much for playing and for these lovely words!! It really means a lot! πŸ’•

Wow. Just wow! I was blown away with how good the action and direction was in this! So impressed!

I loved the characters both in design and writing. The narrative was really well written so I didn't feel lost jumping in with already established characters.

The jokes landed well and the TTRPG aspects felt very true to life.

Would highly recommend, both from a technical standpoint and for enjoyable romp points!

Also if there was an award for best decapitations, it would be all you!

Oh, gosh!! Thank you so much for this wonderful comment! And thank you for playing ahhhhhh!! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! πŸ₯ΊπŸ’•

"so I didn't feel lost jumping in with already established characters." --> LOL I AM GLAD. Honestly my biggest worry about this game in general was this. I really wanted to make sure even those who haven't played the main game can still enjoy this and the characters on its own. So that's really reassuring to hear!!

"enjoyable romp points" --> LMAO I'M CRACKING UP. There is a lot of romping going on HAHAHAHAH I am so glad you got a kick out of the silly shenanigans. I had a lot of fun just letting myself be ridiculous at it times without worrying about it so much hahaha.

"best decapitations" --> BEST AWARD TBH DKFAJSDLKFAJSDLKF

Guhhhh thank you so so much! This was so sweet and nice! It mean so much that you played and took the time to write up your thoughts! πŸ’•

Genuinely, had so much with this game! The characters were all so enjoyable and fun. The writing was great all around, but especially the humor! I actually laughed out loud at several parts. I also LOVED the art! It was so lovely! πŸ˜Š

It's clear you put so much time and love into the game! I really loved every part of it and look forward to following your work ❀️❀️

Here's my playthrough!

THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Still smiling today after everything πŸ₯°πŸ’•

I'm really happy you enjoyed it so much and got such a kick out of it! I hope you'll have fun making playthroughs of some of the other games! Can't wait to watch them! πŸ’•

Perfectly captures the feeling of playing DnD with friends!

As someone who tends to be rather timid, I greatly identified with Ignatius.  I loved all the characters and how they interacted with each other. I really wanted to romance them all!

The visual representation is absolutely stunning. I was in absolute awe about the animations. The fight scenes were epic! I enjoyed it when body parts were flying around, made laugh quite hard!

I am really surprised this is a solo dev project. This is so insanely well polished! You seem to be a master of everything!

Thank you for making this game. I had lots of fun playing it!

Developer

Ahhhhhh thank you so much for playing and for this lovely comment!! I'm really glad you enjoyed the characters! And I'm glad I could pull off that vibe! I'm still not sure if I was aiming for DnD exactly—but I was definitely going for that type of vibe generally, mostly for it to feel rather silly and fun, so hearing that makes me really happy!

HHHHHH thanks for the words about the animations. Directing the scenes and animating and scripting everything definitely took me the most time out of... like... EVERYthing else I did for this game (and a lot longer than I had initially expected it to take LOL), so I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed them and got a laugh!

"You seem to be a master of everything!" --> LOL THIS COULDN'T BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH but thank you for the kind words regardless πŸ₯ΊπŸ’• Thank you again for playing and taking the time to write up your thoughts!!

Hardest I've laughed so far in this jam! All the table talk is completely hilarious and really captures the feel of an RPG session without overstaying its welcome. The cartoony art is so quirky and expressive and really well implemented--the animation in the fights was really fun, and all the specialized art you drew for particular scenes, like Ignatius being held upside down, adds a lot. Plus it all builds to surprisingly genuine emotional stakes. Impressive all around, especially as a solo project!

Developer

OH GOSH THAT IS SUCH HIGH PRAISE!!! Thank you very much!! I never know how my random humor will hit with other people LOL so it tickles me pink that you found it so entertaining. And thank you for the lovely words about the art and animation! I had a ton of fun (maybe a little too much at times) directing scenes and trying to make them lively and exciting πŸ€ And I'm glad you liked how it all ended up, as well!

Thank you so so much for playing and for this wonderful comment! Hearing this means so much and really brightened my day!! πŸ₯°πŸ’•

Ahh, man, I've FINALLY played something of yours! I keep seeing some of your posts on Twitter and thinking it all looks amazing, but I never allow myself much time to actually play games these days >.< I really need to make time to actually check out your main game, haha.

Anything that promises shenanigans up the wazoo is bound to be brilliant, and you certainly delivered x3 This was both adorable and hilarious. I just popped it on auto, kicked back with a coffee, and had an absolute blast ^-^ There's so much going on all the time that it was like watching a whacky movie, haha.

So yeah, epic really! I don't know what else to say x3 Other than I love everything about it :P Awesome job <3

Oh, I did encounter a bit of a bug, but I'm not really sure what would be causing it >.< Don't worry, it's not a big deal. I was playing the 64bit windows version, and sometimes when hitting the return buttons from the options menu while on the title screen, instead of loading up the title screen, it just went completely black. The music was playing, I just couldn't see or do anything. I did it a few times after restarting the game just to try and get more info to be able to describe it to you, and it weirdly seemed to only happen about 50% of the time! And I also did it a few times during gameplay just to see if it happened there too, but nope, literally just randomly on the title screen. It wasn't a problem because it was easy enough to close and restart. I probably wouldn't even have come across it at all if I hadn't opened up the options immediately just to quickly up the auto and text speeds + lower the music volume a tiny bit.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR PLAYING AND FOR YOUR LOVELY WORDS πŸ˜πŸ’•

"I never allow myself much time to actually play games these days" --> I FEEL THIS. The last few months have been a whirlwind of stuff and I've barely had the chance to play any games at all. So I'm glad I finally can take a small respite to just dive into a whole bunch for once!

Oh, my gosh, and thank you for letting me know about this bug! What a strange bug... πŸ€” I will try to investigate it! I'm at least glad it only shows up sometimes under specific conditions, but I just hope it's something I can actually figure out what's going on and be able to fit (I am admittedly not the best when it comes to coding and debugging GUHHH). Thank you for pointing it out so I can go try and figure this out!!! πŸ’•

Thank YOU for making such a fun and creative game ^-^

Yeah, spooktober is one of the few times in the year where I can actually sit and read a bunch of VNs without feeling super guilty about it! >.< I can get away with the occasional session of Pokemon or something without my evil brain bothering me, but most games I try to play I just wind up feeling bad cos my brain starts going, why are ya playing this, huh? You're spose to be making stuff! Makes it so hard to just relax and enjoy playing Vns T_T It's like my hobby of making em has largely killed my hobby of playing em and I don't really know how to fix that, haha.

It is a really weird bug x3 I sure as heck wouldn't know how to fix it, haha. I wouldn't worry about it too much though cos it wasn't exactly hard to work around. I get random stuff like that pop up in my games all the time where I can't replicate it on my end, but one person will come across it, flag it, and then I'm just like T_T I have no idea how to fix this! There is one in the extras that some of the team found in our games where sometimes the artist's sketches display at the correct size and position on the screen when you open em, and sometimes they don't, but then they fix themselves o.O I dunno wtf is going on with that, haha. So I stand no chance of fixing it >.< If the code says display X image at X size at X position on the screen, and it does that successfully most of the time, why on earth would it occasionally decide not to do that? I'm sure someone who knows code well would have the answers, but I sure don't x3

Developer(+1)

"why are ya playing this, huh? You're spose to be making stuff! Makes it so hard to just relax and enjoy playing Vns" --> I FEEL THIS EXACTLY. Like any down time that I have (where I'm not working or eating or doing necessary RL stuff) I always end up feeling guilty if I'm not doing at least something related to dev work hahaha. But yeah I have really sat myself down this time and am not letting myself restart dev work for at least a week after the submission deadline and so I've finally been able to allow myself to just sit back and enjoy a bunch of games, and I've loved it so much πŸ’•

"If the code says display X image at X size at X position on the screen, and it does that successfully most of the time, why on earth would it occasionally decide not to do that?" --> THIS SOUNDS INCREDIBLY HEINOUS I am so sorry hahahaha oh gosh. I swear half the time I feel like I'm starting to really get the hang of Ren'Py then something will just come along to remind me that I still have such a long ways to go LOL Sometimes the bugs that turn up feel so absolutely random and unexplainable...πŸ’¦

Seems to be a curse a fair few indie devs share >.< haha. I guess we should all be kinder to ourselves, but that's so haaaard x3

It's cos of this that my gaming backlog is now horrifically gigantic xD I still haven't even finished Mass Effect Andromeda, and I started that heck knows how long ago now >.<"

I'm glad you're allowing yourself the chance to play some stuff now though :3 We all definitely deserve a break and some time actually gaming instead of deving after all the hard work everyone has put into Spooktober jam!

Yeeeah, I'm the same at this point with Nani. Every time I finally think I've got stuff down, something else comes along and screws me completely x3 there's so much I still don't know to the point that it's ridiculous, haha.

That was AMAZING! I loved it!

The music was great. From what I gather from the credits, the tracks are not commissioned and were pre existing? If that's the case it's so impressive. Perfectly chosen to fit your work. The way the march worked with the effects was particularly good. And the ending credits song felt like it was made for the game. Such a great fit! Also, on the subject of audio, I noticed a few usernames in your freesound.org credits that I've used as well which made me smile. How good is freesound! :D

I love the art. Kind of high res but non-anti-aliased pixel art (not sure how to even describe it, but it's rad). Your style is so distinctive.

The movement and animation choreography was superb. So expressive. You depict so much with so little. Absolutely loved the fight scene where Bucks was dismembering all the rabbits, that was so awesome :D You've inspired me to think about trying more movement in my stuff. I feel like my approach is very static, I need to experiment more.

The story was so entertaining and genuinely funny. Your comedic timing is great. And then also genuinely heartwarming and bittersweet as well. You have awesome range. I haven't played the main game (will def have to remedy that) and I felt like maybe I was not quite understanding a few things. But all in all it still worked pretty well as a stand alone story.

The GUI was super good. Lot's of nice little unique touches. And I really liked the 'out of game' interludes. That layout was really well done and used to great effect.

All in all, fantastic stuff. really well done!

It frustrates me so that I can't get into the usual details I would in my comments on a Carrot Patch Games production, especially since I don't want to spoil things for newcomers and cause people to pre-judge the game for the game jam. It frustrates me because this really good. Not only is this a standalone story set in Carrot's Our Wonderland universe, but it also directly connects to the events of that VN as well! (Kinda like the demo for the wonderful horror game Mothered, but...well, without spoilers, not quite.) Excellent writing, fantastic cast chemistry, wonderful animations, and a very nice twist towards the end.

Also, I know you're hiding it, Carrot. The game raters know what I mean. DON'T MAKE US SUMMON JERRY!!!!!

Developer

OH GOSH THANK YOU!!! πŸ₯ΊπŸ’• I mostly knew going into this that since it's more of a side game to begin with, probably a lot of people would be hesitant to play if they haven't played the main game, but I did try to do as much as possible to make it enjoyable and mostly self-explanatory even for those who haven't!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it though ahhhhhh!!! I freely admit that I just tried to have a lot of fun with it and may or may not have become a bit unhinged with it in the process πŸ€ Like a little silly brain break before jumping into Arc 5, I suppose. I also got to try out a lot of fun new stuff in Ren'Py and learn a lot along the way, which was great! At any rate, I'm glad you could enjoy all the rampant shenanigans AND LOL THAT YOU LIKED THE ENDING. The ending got... really off the rails...

BUT I DIGRESS. THANK YOU AGAIN. And lmao I HOPE PEOPLE APPRECIATE THE MAJESTY OF JERRY JFAKLSDJFLAKD

Very good use of animation and music, it makes the game very lively! It's fun to play. The joke about the programming riddle made me laugh so hard x)
