a good attempt at the requirments thoug it felt verry unfinished the audio was interesting and the animatios were good however the jumping and movement mechanics felt unfinished and rushed but other than thia a great attempt

Well made sprites and catchy and fitting audio to go along with it. I didn't see a clear direction to go, and could not find any clear conditions. However it does control well and look very appealing.

A good attempt at a platformer, I really like the overall design of the game and love how well the music fits, as already said in the comments this is a great foundation for a platformer and I defiantly believe that with some extra time you can really bring this game to life and make it something great but for what you have and with the time that you had-well done.

Love the overall theme of the game with the character design and how well the music fits   the design aswell. However the game is super short, unless I am missing the way to access the other levels, also the game doesn't seem to have a clear goal aswell which made it feel bare. A solid foundation for a platformer good job.

This is a really solid start to a platformer, the graphics are great and Casper is a cute, charming character! I love the music, I think it fits the theme really well. Casper controls well and I appreciate the fact that you can hold down the button to jump higher.

I'm sure you know where you would have taken this given more time, but this is a really solid foundation!

Okay, Casper is so freakin cute!!! The music really fits too! I loved the feel of the game, I wan't able to access any other levels which was a lil annoying but on the whole the game looks awesome well done!! :)

A good little attempt at a platformer, visuals were decent and audio added to the overall user experience. Effort was clearly made towards the non-gameplay polish part of the game, which is entirely fair when a game's mechanics can be fairly basic. Submission was easy to access, with the exception of a lot of .dll files, but that isn't a major problem.

The key issue is regarding the character jumping, which appears to be tied to framerate. Through some magical tweaking (e.g Vsync) I was able to play the game properly. Did you use Delta Time in any way, or was all the physics updated every frame? Was the engine you chose the most appropriate for physics-based jumping? In addition, the rest of the game felt a bit empty at times, giving the player a clear goal or progression is a significant part of retaining player engagement.

In summation, this is a decent submission with some oversights that did spoil it somewhat. Some more attention to the gameplay would go a long way for this submission, but great effort nonetheless.

Developer

For this game I wrote the physics for the movement and jumping from scratch with delta-timing implemented (or so I thought) but then also ran into these same issues when testing the game and was unable to resolve it in time. I used the framework Love2D for this submission and spent a lot of time writing the core systems for the game when in hindsight it may have been more productive to use something like Stencyl or Gamemaker instead to get the base 2D-platformer aspects completed quickly and allow for time to focus on more interesting and important gameplay elements. Our team had lots of ideas for Kirby-like gameplay mechanics such as stealing magic powers from defeating enemies that I would have loved to implement in our game but were unfortunately not able to be included due to time constraints. Thanks for playing and reviewing our submission :)

Thought Casper was a very cute character but was a bit confused as to the goal of the game, and couldn't get to any of the other levels, but it looked good and seemed to have a good concept with good character controls

Is it only me who can't make casper jump more than 1 cm or am i just a retard.

Developer

I had some technical difficulty with making the game framerate-independent and I know that it was effecting the physics at different framerates so this is probably a result of that. Unfortunately there isn't much I can do about it without rewriting the physics :(

If you're on a laptop, you could try plugging it into power and seeing if the game runs at 60FPS.

Casper is a cutesy little game, I have to say, with cute graphics and short, yet fitting music, but it feels more like a prototype or a vertical slice rather than a game. There is no real goal, which made the game feel very empty, and the movement felt a bit floaty due to its reliance on physics-based movement. If there was a bit more to the game, I would definitely play it more than I did, but at the moment it's a bit too empty.

I liked the concept of the game idea and having a cat as the main character with a pirate hat really stood out to me, with background music playing throughout always attracts my attention when music is in there as it makes the game more enjoyable and want to play longer, I do feel that more could of been included though such as more enemies as such or a different level as getting to the end of the screen would have nothing happen for me when playing this and I was unsure on what the goal was? However I can see a good attempt was put into this as a first group task and think you should all be proud, great music, great art and great ideas! Well done!

the design of this game is well-thoughtout, but I can't open the game

Is there a way to open the game? I'm clicking on it and nothing is happening.

The .zip should be there now :) Just need to extract it somewhere and run the .exe
