Nice and Fun game ;D ... but somehow the music stops after each loop :(

Developer(+1)

Many mistakes. Thank You for playing my game!

Host(+1)

As someone who is very bad at video games, I struggled with this game a lot, I kept dying and dying and dying again. But I did keep playing, so I guess that's good :)

Developer(+1)

Thank You for playing my game and hosting the entire game jam! Looking forward to who your top ten picks are!

Host(+1)

oh uhm... I won't be choosing the top 10, everyone who participated will choose together (by rating games)

Congrats on your first game jam entry! I like about the automatic jumping that it can be used to as an air-jump with proper timing.

Some advice on the licensing: I am not a lawyer, but it is probably better to use music with a free license for future projects. Nintendo in particular is known to be very strict with copyright. It's not a big deal and Nintendo won't care this time, but it's still something to keep in mind for the future.

Thank You! I will try and learn to make music for my own games, but this jam I never learned how to. Thanks for playing!

You don't have to make it yourself (though that would certainly be impressive). There is plenty of music which is free to use for non-commercial (or sometimes even commercial) projects.

Developer

Oh! I really Thank You for your knowledge and advice!

Congrats on submitting your first game to a game jam! It was easy to pick up, you did some fun level design and I was able to finish the game within a couple of minutes which is in my opinion very good for a game jam game.

Overall the game is a bit simple in terms of audio, visuals and mechanics but since this is your first submitted game you did a good job. Keep on designing and developing!

Developer

Thank You! During the jam I was trying to learn how to create an AudioManager from the Brackeys tutorial. I just got stuck and had to scrap it so I could finish the game on time. Besides no good audio, I just suck at pixel art and decided not to waste time in Aseprite.

I like that often it's possible to skip parts (platforms (sometimes multiple at once)) and that kind of wants me to do a speedrun of that game but I've never done a speedrun and don't know how to do that

Developer

I did not intent for shortcuts, but they make my game more likely to be to speedrunned. Thanks for playing my game!

I like the mechanics and the feel of the game! Just a tad frustrating when the bar is not 100% accurate, but nice approach to spice up the JnR genre!

Developer

That mechanic is really broken! I have got three or four comments saying it gets out of  sync. Thank You for your feedback and taking some time out of your day to play my game!

This game was a nice relaxing game with a very good concept. Some of the things I encountered were the bar and jump were out of sync which made it difficult but I saw that you said you were newer to game dev so its not a big deal. Overall good game and good luck with future projects!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback and, Yes! I'm new to game development! Although I'm new to game development, don't hold back on the constructive feedback! Thank You for playing my first submission to a game jam!

This was a fun n short lil platformer!  A little challenging at first, but definitely worth a play!

There were a two bugs I encountered:

  • The timing for jumping wasn't perfectly timed with the jump bar, so after a while they became desynced.
  • And one little audio blip where the music cut out for a second and then came back in- maybe at the end of a track?
Developer

I encountered the bug where the bar and the jump desynced when I was play testing, but I'm fairly new to programing and creating games so I had no idea how to fix it. If you have any idea how to fix  that , after the jam I would love to fix it.

If you're using unity I might be able to offer some advice (I'm a bit new as well, and my knowledge of programming is pretty limited).  If you did use unity, You can use the animator controller, and use a trigger event to trigger the jump function at the end of the bar's countdown

Developer

Would this work? Once the bar's value is equal 0,  could I just call the Jump function there and then set the bar's value back to 1 after I call the function?

Submitted

Probably! as long as you're syncing the bar's sprites/ sprite length  to whatever is counting down your timer

Developer

I just use the simple slider that is  implemented in the engine and change its value, I don't use and animation.

Submitted

Then most likely! I haven't messed around with UI stuff in unity enough to know too much, but that sounds like it should work!

Developer

Thank You for being kind, understanding and patient while helping me and giving feedback.

Submitted

Of course! I hope it all works out well :)

good gameplay mechanics, i had a problem with the jumping bar i didnt know exactly when it jumps

Developer

Maybe I could have added a sound effect to tell the player the jump is about to happen?

A fun game with cool mechanics! Would love see something that would make the game more interesting as you go, because it can get a bit repetitive at times. Some Post Processing for the art style would also be beneficial. Overall a good game, so good job! :)

Developer

I will have to experiment with post-processing  and an audio manager to add sound effects. Thank You for your advice and have the best of luck in your next projects.

Submitted

Cool game! Nice mechanic and good platforming controls, although the bar did pretty big jumps so it was pretty hard to know when the jump would actually happen. Overall, fun game. Great job!

Developer

As the dev of the game, when I play test it it just comes easy to me and I forget that the mechanic is so broken. Thank You for your advice and time!

great simple and fun game! reminds me of https://leko20.itch.io/restless-wing-syndrome

Developer

I have multiple people saying the same. When I was building the jump mechanic, it just wasn't responsive enough for a platformer. So I took inspiration and used this method. Thank You for your time and advice!

Submitted

You are welcome!

The game was actually pretty relaxing. The jump mechanic was really cool. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank You! I took a lot of inspiration from Restless Wing Syndrome so I can't take all the credit.

Interesting game here. I had some issues with the jump meter and the jump being out of sync. Other than that the platforming felt pretty good.

Developer

I encountered the bug where the bar and the jump desynced when I was play testing, but I'm fairly new to programing and creating games so I had no idea how to fix it. If you have any idea how to fix  that , after the jam I would love to fix it. Thank You for your time!

Cool game, I feel some jump knight vibe for some reason.

Developer(+1)

I played your game about thirty minutes after the jam and I still  dream of being that good at pixel art.

Very fun game with a cool concept for movement! Reminded me a bit of this game: https://leko20.itch.io/restless-wing-syndrome, which had a similar movement strategy. Great job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

*Sarcasm* I totally didn't take inspiration for the jump mechanic  and I totally wasn't playing it three hours before the jam. I do actually Love Restless Wing Syndrome though. Thank You!
