  • Great game overall! The maze was fun, the enemies were scary. The only bit of feedback I really have is that it didn't have much to do with the theme "Afraid of the dark" but it was a great game nonetheless.

Great game overall!

The maze was fun, the enemies were scary. The assets were cool and it felt like a really nice game!

I found myself running in circles until I realised I could climb the vine/tree.

The only bit of feedback I really have is that it didn't have much to do with the theme "Afraid of the dark" but it was a great game nonetheless.

Overall I found it a fun experience and I hope that you add more to the game! :D

I'm surprised with the length of this one! You were really able to fit in a ton of content in such a short amount of time.

What I liked:

  • I think the length of the game was great. It also had some fun variety to it.
  • Slowly introducing different mechanics worked really well here. First learning to navigate mazes, then jump and finally climbing!
  • Great sound work. I really enjoyed the audio design for this one. I especially enjoyed when the pumpkin monsters would start chasing you. A small little alert sound to let me know to get running worked flawlessly.

Some Notes:

  • I liked the climbing mechanic, but there was nothing that really signaled that I was supposed to climb or that the vine was climbable. Luckily, it being a dead end when its introduced helped, but with the monsters chasing in the same scene, it was easy to get caught up and not notice that it was meant to be climbed.
  • The boss was cool, but I wasn't able to dodge its attacks. I tried jumping and running, but nothing seemed to work. I just tanked it and ate candy until I could run away.
  • I'm not sure it followed the theme, but that's always ok! It was on point for Halloween!

This was a great maze game! Fun mechanics introduced throughout that kept it fresh and interesting.

Thanks for a great entry!!!

Fun maze and the pumpkins scared the crap out of me lol

Thanks. I hadn't considered how much background music and environmental effects affect adrenaline and fear responses until I started putting them in this game.

Really impressive, was just learning Godot and did not know so far, how well it supports VR.

The actual gameplay is pretty simple, but walking around feels nice in this kind of spooky environment. You did a great job with the enemies, had no idea that i could be scared by such a cartoony looking pumpkin :-D

I'm just not sure, if i completed it... Sometimes it was a bit difficult to understand after the loading screen, from where i came. And in the end was trapped with the skeleton and the pumpkin.

But all in all a pretty fun entry, and thank you for demonstrating what's possible with Godot!

Developer(+1)

Ah, if you survive long-enough the pumpkin boss slices down some of the corn wall and you can escape!

oh ok, that's a cool idea

Fun times! Wasn't sure how to beat the dual pumpkin head and skeleton as the way was blocked once I jumped down into the pit. They were all cute looking but I got a little panicked anyways and ran away. I can't believe this was done in Godot! Awesome!

At the end of the hallway you'll see some roots grown in to the wall - you can climb up them to get to the next section. I should probably indicate you can go up that way with an arrow or something.

Update: I've posted a "Non Jam" update which uses particle-effects to indicate where climbing is possible, you can grab hold of the wall or roots and pull yourself up.

oh those are climbable?? Yeah definitely need an indicator that you can climb them. I was looking for something to destroy them, I thought they were rocks. I threw candy at them I think lol

The audio played on my PC audio and not in my headset (Quest 2 via Quest Link). Every time I snap turn to the right, I glide queasily backward a bit. The "hold trigger" screen is set up strange, I get sick on that screen every time. I found a bunch of candy that I ate, and I found two enemy pumpkin dudes, but found no way to escape them. Mazes make me anxious. lol

I'll put up an updated version which adds some sort of visual indicator where climbing is possible. The end of the hallway has roots and vines to climb up.

Nice to see a VR game developed using Godot Engine!

Is it possible to win this game? haha

I didn't find any weapons to fight the enemies.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Alas no killing enemies, but it is possible to stay alive by running like hell to the next sections and eating candy on the way to heal damage.

Well made and fun to play! Great look and feel to it and there's some genuinely jumpy moments.

Large environment and you get the sense of space and threat when the enemies chase you. Although, it would be cool to have a weapon perhaps - maybe I missed it, or didn't see one? I reached the massive pumpkin, however I wasn't sure how to defeat it...

All in all, a great solid entry - had fun playing it :)

Developer (1 edit)

Yup - after 30 seconds or so the boss pumpkins scythe cuts an exit path to move on.  I should probably add some sort of sound effect to indicate the progression is possible.

I just put a "Non-Jam" update with a very audible scythe/cut sound when the corn falls.

Very fun corn maze and castle maze.  I liked the chase enemies.  I didn't seem to hear any audio - I am using a Quest 2 and played the Windows version.  I was also a little confused by the scene resets which seemed to occur often.  All in all very fun to play.

Developer

The scene cuts were for two purposes - firstly to keep each map small enough to play fast on mobile devices, and secondarily in most cases the scene transition prevents the player from going backwards in the story-line.

I'm surprised you're not getting audio. I have the same setup here (Quest on Windows over Link). You may want to make sure the sound output device is the "Headphones (Oculus Virtual Audio Device)".
