The music keeps throwing me off, LOL. The gameplay is fun, though it took me a bit to get used to the controls and the physics -- it's probably just me.

The 3D models and the animations are pretty cute. I’m very happy to see this pairing in the jam!! Great job.

I LOVED IT WOWOWOWOWOW

I think I'll echo everyone's first initial thought but using actual Super Mario 64 instruments for the OST is an inspired choice. That's pretty damn' great. Game's also fun! Was cool finding the stars, and the ending section was the cherry on top to making this a great tribute. My only gripe is that (at least for the jam version which I played for rating purposes), the wall jump timing was really strict. I'm used to the Mario 64 timings with momentum, so having it not be that or 64 DS and instead be tied to hitting a once you hit a wall within a certain frame window threw me off. Still though, overall a pretty great time.

Developer

I'm so glad you had a great time! Yeah, the wall jump timings are definitely too tight. It's something I'd have liked to adjust along with some other polish for the character movement but we didn't have time and felt any major gameplay adjustments should be done once development of the jam version is concluded. I appreciate the feedback! <33

I genuinely can't help but give this 5 stars all-round. It controls well, it looks nice, the music's good, the writing's funny, and there's a healthy dose of lesbians and oilfire!!! I played this when it first released and figured I'd check it out again after the new release, and leave a rating while I'm at it. There's seriously nothing to critique, y'all did great :)

Developer

That's so sweet of you, thank you for giving our game a chance 🥺 we're so proud of what we were able to do. The lesbians and oilfire were so integral to our premise and I think it made a lot of people happy, or confused depending on if they knew the context of the ship lmao. SM64 but gay is the future. Thanks so much!!

Extremely charming game. I'm too sleepy to write a proper comment now, but my favorite thing about it has to be making Sanae wiggle like a snake when she's laying on the ground. Wigglemaxing gang!

Developer(+1)

Wigglemaxing gang!!! I can't believe I never made that connection until seeing the joke made on stream. Wigglemaxing is now the official term for Sanae's dive spam... <33

The SM64 parody is simply fantastic. What a fun experience.

Gameplay's a neat recreation of SM64. The map was decently fun to navigate with the controls!
The presentation of the stage has apparent care put into it - the toori gates, trees and cliff looking good! How about some textures to pretty it up?
The songs are also so fun to listen to. Hearing the iconic song with Touhou just blew my mind when I started the game. Ever thought of submitting these to Siivagunner and make the 2hu rip squad go crazy?

Developer(+1)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I wanted to texture things, but I had to take a break for a week during the jam and by the time I got back, I had only a few days to crunch the rest of the game and textures were unfortunately not able to make it in time. There will be a proper, full-scale of Super Sanae 64 in the future, and you can expect a lot more polish there ;3

Also, if I recall, our music person maidthings has worked for siivagunner! I'll ask it about it lol

Pretty nice. All the presentation and feels of the game were great. Had a lot of trouble with the triple-jump timing in certain parts, which made some platforming challenges a bit frustrating, so I'm glad not all the stars were required. Writing was fun, and the weird not-quite-Mario64 music was great.

Developer

Thank you! I added the red coins precisely for this purpose, I'm ready happy it helped you!

A solid concept executed well. It is not as earth shattering as it was when SM64 first came out, but even coming close to that in the realm of a jam is an achievement. The greatest challenge came from the controls and the camera, especially during the final slide. But jumping around as Sanae and exploring the nooks and crannies of even the limited game world was a good time. The writing added some chuckles to the platforming romp and the half Mario, half Touhou arranges added to the overall humorous tone.

Developer

I'm so honored you think so... The controls and camera are something I hope to improve on in an eventual full-scale realization of Super Sanae 64, and I deeply appreciate the feedback. My team did wonderfully on the music and writing and I'm so happy they're getting the praise they deserve :3

Hearing part of Sanae's theme sneakily making its way into the main theme song of the game was so good, I laughed my ass off the first time I heard it. Also love the little bit of Cha la head cha la everytime you talk to Tsukasa. You guys did an amazing job on this game and recreating the original

Thanks so much!! Our sound dev had a lot of incredible ideas, I adore how its work turned out. The ringtone was such a cute idea I begged for it to be made. It's the little stuff like that which really pulls these projects together and I'm thankful you got to experience them!

This is so good. I'm so happy you made this.

But are there really only 7 stars? I couldn't find an 8th star, so I assumed it'd be up with Reimu, but then the game ended. Great game, nevertheless.

My favorite review is "I wish there was more", it makes me happy to know we pulled off something great for you. I hope to make something full-scale out of this in the future, improving on what we all learned here from the feedback. When that day comes, I look forward to your thoughts!

Oh this is so fun

I really loved this. Obviously Mario 64 is a tried and true concept but pulling off a clone isn’t easy regardless. It ran smooth and I really enjoyed all the extra challenges and the little secrets. The music was good but I particularly liked the writing, it was very funny and really transformed this from “Mario 64 clone demo” to “Super Sanae 64”. I never heard this ship before but I did like the end screen art.

Really awesome.

Developer

Gosh, that's high praise!! Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm so happy my team and I could make something special. <3 It means the world to us that you enjoyed it so much!

This was really goofy fun, I can tell this was made with passion, even if the SM64 controls are weird to me.

Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed!! This was a learning experience and if I get to making a fully realized version of this game, I hope to squash whatever issues people faced in this demo. Thanks so much!
