Nice little game! I'd say that the main gameplay issue is that you can spam click to have a machinguning mortar (which is fun to see tho :D ), making the game probably too easy. You did an excellent job though, it was fun to give your game a try!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, maybe something like a reload timer could help with that. Might add something along those lines, so thank you for your feedback. :')

Developer(+1)

I now added a small cooldown. It isn't too noticable, but really helps. Feels much more rewarding now. Thank you again!

A simple but fun game! I like the little lumberjack character. It's unfortunate that there's no audio.

Developer

Thank you!

Haha, glad you like the little guy! :'D

I'll add audio soon. :')

Developer

I now have added audio. Hope the game feels more complete now. :')

That's the kind of idea that would perfectly fit in the mobile game market! Definitely an expandable idea. I can totally see it working with leaderboards, a timer, upgrades and challenges!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'll try to have those things in mind when moving forward with the game. Maybe I'm able to add some more things. Timer and leaderboard are on the top of my list. :')

Thank you for the inspiration!

Developer(+1)

I've now finally came around to add a timer as you suggested and you can now also upload your time to an online leaderboard. Definitely improves the overall experience. :')

Great job! Though I thought I did good this time, but could only manage to make it in 78s. :(
Congrats, Felix!

78 Seconds it quite good! It's all random so it's not all your fault if too many bad logs come down. ^^

Thank you very much for testing it out!

Fun little game idea! The  little camera shake was sweet! I would have loved some sounds tho! (I also ran out of time to add sounds lol)

Developer

Thank you! Haha, yes, sounds woul've been great. I'll make an update soon. ^^

Developer

I tried to compose some sounds myself and added them. Hopefully makes the game a little better. :')

A really interesting Idea ! Maybe a little too easy since there is no way to lose, but it's really enjoyable, ingenious and easy to understand ! :p

Developer

Thank you!
True! There is only not winning, when you don't hit enough rotten woods, but no game over screen ever. :'D
Might something worth looking into!

Developer

I've just added a timer and an online leaderboard. I really hope it helps with motivation. You still can't lose, but at least you have something to work towards/compete. :')

I think the game design on this one was really good! I really liked that the last row moved slower than the first, which gave you a fair chance of hitting the rotten wood in that row. I also feel like more rotten wood spawned in the first row, which made it easier to remove the rotten wood in the later rows without hitting any good logs. Really clever :D

All-in-all a really unique and manageable idea for this three hours game jam. The execution was also great! Of course some sound and music would have been nice, but I am sure you know this :P As others have said, a bit more juice would be amazing if you decide to continue working on this. Like particles when you hit a log or when you shoot, etc. Another little thing is that sometimes I hit two chunks of wood at the same time, which sometimes felt a bit unfair when it removed a good log as well (although it removed bad logs an equal amount of times, so it may not be a bad thing :P)

Great submission! I really liked it :)

Developer

I'm so happy that you recognized my "balancing" there! It was so simple, but worked right out of the gate when testing it. You just described my entire thought process while creating it. :'D

As this was my first 3-hour-jam, I'm so grateful for the positive feedback! Music, Particles, Post Processing, maybe even a timer + leaderboard will surely come in an update soon. :')
Yeah, I spotted that bug too. It is not intended and I will need to fix it ASAP. It just will feel better.

Thank you very much!

Developer(+1)

I fixed the problem, where the player could hit two logs with one shot - should be much better now. I also had some time to create and implement sounds and music. And as you suggested, particles do much to the overall look and feel. Thank you again for your input! :')

Submitted(+1)

Amazing! It feels much better to play already :D

I also saw you made the sounds and music yourself :O Thats really cool! It fits really well. Great job!

Developer

That's so kind of you. It was fun to compose some 8-bit stuff for the first time. I used a tool from itch.io for it. Would totally recommend it, much fun: https://terrycavanagh.itch.io/bosca-ceoil
Today I finally added an online leaderboard. Was much harder than expected, but I think I got it working now. :'D

I love the sprite work on this one.  And I think it is a fun take on the theme.

Developer

Oh, thank you really much! I'm still learning when it comes to pixel art though. :'D

@Felix very well done with the lumberjack artwork, I can understand I also ran out of time for sound and music, btw I also noticed you managed to put some game juice in the game like camera shake.

Controls also felt responsive, overall good entry man :D

Developer(+1)

That's so kind of you. Your game is actually next on my list! :'D I'll probably add music and some more things after the jam. The juice is so important - first time I implemented it and therefore I'm really happy you enjoyed it!

I really like the sprite work.  The jump and the camera shake after shooting are really satisfying and the concept is very original! Maybe making the logs fall progresively faster would make the game more challenging but in it's current state is fun too.

The lack of sfx or music is understandable, since 3 hours feel like a handful of minutes when making a game (I had the same problem >_<).

I would love to see this ported to mobile after a bit of polishing! Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! That's a good idea. I will probably do SFX + mobile Version after the Jam ended (and also the needed polish ;'D).
I'm glad you found the impact-effects satisfying as this was the first time I implended something like this. :')
