Well, that was... unexpected.
Great story, graphics, gameplay. Overall, I was surprised of how good it was. Congratulations!
Amazing, one of the best games submitted to this jam. The visuals were lovely and the music set the mood perfectly, and as for the unexpectedness, well I fell hook, line, and sinker for the twists, sometimes the classics are the best.
The game itself is a simple point and click, but I enjoyed the balancing act with the spaghetti in the second part, and it didn't overstay its welcome either. The story is full of charm, right down to the ending, it felt like it could be a cheesy rom-com movie in the best way possible.
Gorgeous and well-written. Stellar work!
This was a fun and funny game, with great visuals and audio! Although I think I failed to get to the ending because I kept choking on spaghetti, which was pretty unexpected haha. Nicely done :)
Sweet Mob Story. What a world we live in? Beautiful game
Here is my letter to the Dons.
HAHAHAHA!
The story and visuals are soooooooo good! Easily one of the best games of the jam!
Well done ! I like the design and the story and the game is super funny !
I love all the mini-games, story and design - I've had quite a fun playing your game!
Normally I wouldn't like this kind of thing, but I loved this, the writing was really well done and always the perfect amount of unexpected, and super funny, the music and visuals also lent well to a really well rounded experience, I'm glad I played this.
I loved it to bits! Really funny and unexpected. Great job!
This was unexpected and great start to finish! The writing was great! Loved the humor. -Awesome work!! :D
I'm SO glad this exists. This is such a lovely story that made me laugh the entire time, and it kept consistently surprising me (I definitely noticed what was on the top of that message at the end and it made me so happy ╰(▔∀▔)╯)
And the writing! Just! Give! Me! A! Moment! To! Shout! About! The writing for this game! I LOVE IT. I absolutely love dialogues that are funny and quirky and make you laugh and smile throughout the game, and you did just that! Thank you! I did the writing for our game so I now have a much deeper appreciation for writing in games after that. Sometimes dialogues are hard. But when you get them right and you give it to your friends and you see them chuckle here and there, it just makes all the time spent on polishing the writing so much worth it. My favorite dialogue was probably the lunch one. Tony knows him so well, they don't even need words :"DD
(also the dancing noodle was hilarious. just wanna give a shout out to the dancing noodle in that scene)
Also, absolutely loved the scene at the end. Without going too much into the spoiler territory, I love how you can keep doing the <action> at the end even while the credits are rolling. I did that until the screen faded. I was too into it <DD
Really amazing job! :33
Very witty and unexpected at many intervals - this was a short, sweet and engaging game - nice job!
Oh, and thanks for allowing the player to leave a note which then gets read back, that cracked me up!
So happy you had a good time! Thanks for the review :D
overall a pretty nice game! I was definitely not expecting the plot to go the way it did.
Thanks!! Guess you could say it was... unexpected?
This game is the most amazing thing I've played so far. I laughed my BUTT off at almost every moment in the game. I brooded sooooo long it was a heck of a time. And the spaghetti mini-game was SOOOOOO GOOOD! It was so hard to multi-task the spaghetti and the conversation, but I loved it SO MUCH! I really really want to see what this would be like as a whole complete game, the writing and the pacing was sooooooooooo phenomenal and you see from the image that I really had fun with this game.
One thing I noticed with the dialogue was that you could see the entire dialogue for a frame before the text actually did its scrolling. I highly recommend https://yarnspinner.dev/ for dialogue management (this jam was my first time using it) and I found that it's really powerful and that it made iterative testing with dialogue so easy. (It's what Night in the Woods and A Short Hike uses and it's open source). It also took me a bit of trial-and-error to realize what I was supposed to click to advance the dialogue.
Other that nitpick, y'all really scoped and executed this perfectly! I love it soo much :D This game really made my night
Wow, this is so nice!! That screenshot is amazing, and exactly the kind of thing we were hoping people would write in the message. Thank you so much for the feedback, this kind of thing means a lot!
As for the dialog bug, yeah we weren't sure what was causing it but we're taking a look. Next time we'll be sure to check out Yarn though.
So happy this one left an impression!!
Reasons I love this game:
- I love noir
- I totally ship the two main characters
- I laughed actually the entire time. Dialogue was classic.
The only issue I had is that the text boxes were occasionally a little buggy. Also, I think a default text would pop up for like a millisecond before the real text appeared. Great job on this game, it blew my expectations out of the water.
Thanks for the lovely review! Glad the experience was sufficiently unexpected :D. Also sorry about the text boxes, we've been trying to figure that one out. If we find a fix we'll update it!
Ok, i was actually impressed with how the plot evolved hahaha. The dinner scene was actually tense, and the final shootout felt like a twist inside a twist, i think.
Not much to say than just well done, I liked the art, sound and theme, pretty funny too, just seems that after the ending the game seems to freeze, maybe it's only in my end, but its nothing that refreshing the page doesn't fix, congrats!
So happy you had a good time! Sorry you got that freeze at the end, hopefully it was after the fade to black? We can definitely look into it.
Yes, it was after the credits ended, if froze on what seemed to be the loading image (the blurred Don on the table), but without the loading bar.
I think that may be an issue with the web player. I'll take a look when I get the chance!
The writing is awesome. The music and the drawings too.
I loved the lunch part, when you need to do two things at the same time. it´s like the experience of eating and speaking.
Well done!
Thank you! We always strive for pure realism in our lunch gameplay
I laugh out loud, the writing is what the game shines =)
Thanks so much! Laughs are what we were hoping for :D
