This was a very enjoyable jam experience. Just the right length. Not too many controls to have to deal with. And I really appreciated the slower pace and gravity on movement. Firing the arrow took a few frames, but that made it feel way more rewarding when I'd one shot the bats.

The art and care to the animation is really fantastic. The feedback when you land a hit ... the different frames for jumping up and falling down ...  the movement cycles — all excellent and cohesive throughout the game. I think maybe you could have also added a 2 or 4 frame loop for the halo on the player character for even more charm.

The hitbox detection was pretty unforgiving. A couple times on the second level right before the ending harp I'd jump off the crate and I felt like I was nowhere near the spikes, but I died. Some fine-tuning there would make the game play even better and feel more fair.

I think the first enemy type that just sort of walked around could use a second state, say ... pursue ... or something like that so if the player got within a certain distance, or line of sight, the enemy would move toward you more aggressively, otherwise they were pushovers, or I'd just jump around and avoid them altogether. There was also a small issue with really hearing where the music looped back around. It's a great track and fits the game, but that loop point was a little rough.

Overall, an excellent entry and fun puzzle platformer with basic combat. A chill experience and a great solo dev entry to the jam. Good work. You should be proud.

Pixel art was excellent but not fitting the games that much also I couldn't find any type of edge or something that relates to the theme or the requirement

Developer

Thanks for playing, the requirement was the devil as a boss fight and i tried to include the theme in the story because you fall from  heaven to hell.

Haha, I like how quickly you have to die to see Hell. Great concept, I really enjoyed it!

  • Sometimes it felt like the angel wouldn't shoot when I wanted them to. You could shoot mid-air, but you couldn't start shooting on the ground and then jump to continue shooting in the air - if you know what I mean
  • It felt almost impossible to hit flying enemies, I just had to skip them.
  • Also, enemies' projectiles would just disappear at a certain moment. I could run away from the projectile and never get hit.

I'd love to see more of an Heaven levels though! Too bad you don't go back once you finish the game!

I loved the graphics and the design. I had problems with the controls, moving and jumping on the keyboard but shooting with the mouse is confusing. A tip is to leave the jump together with the mouse shot or put the shot on the keyboard too, since in your game you don't need to use the mouse to aim. There is also a delay in the shot that makes it difficult to hit the targets, sometimes it is better to sacrifice the anticipation animation for the player to have an immediate result when pressing the button. Other than these things it's a really cool game, good job! :)

the fun game I like the idea although I can wall jump how ever much I want don't think that was intended. also, it was really difficult to shoot the flying enemies cause I cant shoot and jump

Nice Game! The characters were so cutee especially the shooting animation. Also would've wished to have the jump as a W since we're using the other hand to shoot with the mouse, but the controls for this one don't take that long to get used to so still a good job. The music also went really well with the visuals of the game.

good game

hoped i could shoot with space and jump by "W" or "Up Arrow"

but still a good cool game :)

Very cool little game you've made.  I really like the art work and animations.  The platforming was a little challenging but not too bad.   Great job!

Very nice game! I love the cute art and the platforming. The fighting feels a bit stiff, because you can only shoot in the set direction and the shot takes some time to "load". So either reducing the loading time or letting you aim with the mouse would make the fighting feel way better.

But all in all I really enjoyed it, great game! Well done!

Great game! Love the pixel art like the other comments said aiming with the mouse would have been nice but otherwise for me i had no complaints

The music gets to you, I was bouncing my head in the mid tempo, contrast the cheerful angel with the scary hell.
I was able to play with my controller but not to shoot. Has mentioned below, if we are shooting with the mouse, aiming with it would have been nice. Still, is a great fun game with crispy graphics... crispy, oh, I made a dad joke!

Developer

Thanks for playing... I didnt implemented gamepad support, interessting this worked. Thanks you for your feebback:)

Good detail on the graphics! I like how the bat is harder but only takes a single hit. I only wish I could aim with the mouse and fire an arrow in any direction. Overall it was good!

I loved the art, and the music never felt old.
I have only one thing I can complain about, and that is hitboxes.

Either spikes and lava has too big of a hitbox or the player does.
I could stand next to the spikes and lava to lose.

I did enjoy playing it, music and sound effects were great. And the feedback when hitting an enemy was really nice.

The boss was quite easy, you can stand outside his range and shoot him without any risk.

Good job!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback, im glad you had fun playing it. I agree the hitboxes of the spikes and lava were too big. Just checked out your entry, great work!

I liked it.

I love the art style you went with.  It looks great and really fits the game. The music was a bit repetitive and while it fit the art style, I didn't really get any hellish vibes from it if that was the idea.

The platforming part was lovely. Controls were smooth and jumping around with some leaps of faith were a treat. The combat however I felt was a bit awkward and I found myself jumping over and avoiding enemies (which added to the platforming I guess) instead of fighting them.

Overall I liked it but just feel the combat and boss experience could do with a little bit of a rework.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback, i agree the music was from an old game i had created because i didnt have time to make a new one and it didnt fit my theme.

It's a nice game. Some design ideas are good and honestly I would be happy to see more leaps of faith, have a little more adrenaline descent in an environment like this! By the way I get that's hard to place and intepret a Boss inside a Platformer like this, but you can always redesign some ideas from 90's, that would be cool. Anyway, I think you did a nice job and sure I wanna see more!

Fun game with some neat mechanics.  Difficulty level was nicely balanced.  I also thought it was a perfect length for a jam game.  While I enjoyed the music it did get a little bit repetitive by the end of the game.  A little variation in the boss mechanics would have been nice too, but it is a jam game after all so I get there wasn't a lot of time to work on it.  Overall really fun experience.

Developer

Thanks for playing it, the music was from another project of me because i didnt have time to make a new one. Im Glad you liked it, i had really fun playing your entry!
