Love the art! The game was very polished, throwing felt nice!

Really like the art direction and it was fun to just chuck around the cards and knives. No enemies are spawning for me though (SteamVR/Vive with motion controllers). The game doesn't seem to ever start - on my desktop I see the settings overlay but only restart/quit buttons on it. Restarted it a few times and no changes unfortunately.

Developer

I'm just now seeing this! Did you hit the log close to you 4 times? That's how you trigger the spawning. I should have made that more clear!! Thanks for the feedback.

That did the trick! Was able to start and play a few rounds, very fun! My tracking was acting funky since I switched my room positioning and dropping knives when they spawned 50% of the time so I'll have to give it a go again in full room scale when I get a chance.

Developer

Awesome! Thanks for playing. If you're on Oculus there was a bug with the bindings that would cause similar kunai-dropping - check the install instructions for the fix.

Def my favorite game from the jam so far! I played it in this video:

Fantastic! I love the throwing mechanic, feels so natural. Graphics is awesome. Works great on Oculus with the patch.

Your throwing knives are super dope! I also like how you handled the options UI.

I enjoyed this game it was fun and gave me a workout lol. I love the art style and the music. Good job. ^_^

I really enjoyed this game. I didn't even know about the exploding tags. Super fun game, a little short. I really liked the throwing mechanic overall and the aim assist. I think one of the reasons it was fun to play was because the default settings were tuned so well. It said win, but I don't remember seeing nay flying demon heads, so maybe I lost I dunno. Overall awesome game.

Developer (1 edit)

Aw man! There were supposed to be demon heads for sure, but it could have also totally bugged out Q_Q --- but still thanks for playing!

I replayed it today actually because my team still hasn't submitted our ratings yet, we are doing relative sizing so we are compiling all our feedback so that we can fairly distribute scores to everyone. I did see demon heads this time. I also figured out the tag feature. Super awesome, still just as fun the second time around. Really really solid throwing mechanics, I really liked the graphics, like they weren't insanely perfect or anything but they felt perfect for what you were going for. I would say definitely make it into a feature game.

Edit: Wanted to also say great job on the audio. The spatial audio made it really easy to fight off the hordes coming from many directions, and I liked the music too.

Can you check out my team's game as well? We only have 4 ratings right now: https://symbioticparker.itch.io/a-wizards-wand

The retro vibe of this title is awsome! Love the slight autoaim, helps feel like a real ninja^^ Sometimes the kunai do drop out of hand, so I tended to drop 2 out of 3 on the floor, playing on a rift s, but the balanced & comical waves helped forget about it :)

There was a weird issue with the Oculus bindings I'm figuring out right now - if you delete the "Grab Pinch" action and then reassign it -- it should fix it -- also to use bombs with your right controller you have to turn off mirror mode and assign it as well -- Sorry about that issue!!,, but thanks for playing!!!

I had a lot of fun playing this, the art style and audio was really on point! :D
Though one issue I had  was with the summoning the kunai "into my hand" mechanic, sometimes it was a little temperamental and would just drop to the floor, but maybe that's just me?  (Oculus Rift-S).

Thanks for letting me know! There was an issue with the bindings! If you delete and reassign the "grab pinch" binding in the controller settings it should work.

Graphics were so much fun. 5 stars for style there. I had a bit of trouble getting the dagger to stay in my hand. I would press the trigger and it would drop out, which just made it hard to hit enemies. But overall really nice work!

Developer

Oh no! Which headset are you using?

Submitted

a quest hooked up via a link cable. I should hit trigger to spawn the arrow and then release while throwing correct?

Developer(+1)

Yeah that's how it's supposed to work. I'm bummed it quirked out, but I think I found a fix. Deleting and reassigning the grab-pinch action on your steamVR controller bindings should fix it. Either way thanks so much for trying it out and letting me know!

Submitted(+1)

awesome. I’ll definitely try that. Yeah people discovered a bug in my game where if you start sitting, you fall. Such a bummer when we didn’t catch those.

Nice job! I need to take lessons from you on minimalism. You did so much with so little! I noticed on the default difficulty the kunai seem to home in on the target, how close does your aim have to be to the target to kick that into effect?

Developer (1 edit)

Hey thanks! I just checked and I have it set to where if it's less than 30 degrees off target the auto-aim will kick in.

This is SO fun!!! I thought it was going to be one of those meditation type games, and then the demon turns around on the stump and I nearly poop myself.  Once I figured out how the explosions worked, I was like... "finally, I'm a true ninja."

HTC Vive User here: THESE GRAPHICS ARE SO NICE! 5 star rating sent, because it was sure a lot work and sound and gameplay is so freaking nice! Thanks for your submission!

While you are here I've played yours, so please check my game out in the button below. I wonder if you can play it with your headset.

Great gameplay, art and music all round! I also like the absurdity of attack logs lmao. Well done! Hopefully there's more to come after this Jam on this :D

I won! Dope game. Definitely made me feel way more bad-ass than I actually am.

Very funny and well done, with amazing visuals and audio.  I felt like Sasuke training in the forest.
