Hmm it certainly has the vibe. I would say in the future work on the platformer feel like make the jump not floaty (increase the gravity on the player to 3 or 4 and multiply your jump force by 3 or 4 so you get an even jump that feels better) and always remember to set the rigidbody on your player to "interpolate" because the character is really jittery and it would fix that. I would recommend watching one of Jonas videos about a 2d platformer. Overall not a bad game in that time span. Could you try out my game as well :) ? With all the tips I provided you with you could be pretty much able to recreate my player movement.

Yeah, I understand the jump is pretty floaty, but I figured that it was worth it for the   v i b e . I tried turning up the gravity, but then it didn't feel right.  I can't really turn on interpolation because the character controller is Kinematic body based, not Rigid body based. Also I noticed that you were using Unity, and I am using Godot. Your game is pretty cool, though the golf orb swing (i don't know what to call it) could use some minor tweaking to make it more precise. Other than that, I've got nothing.

Cool graphics, I like the mood of the game. Some tutorial would be great to get a better intro to the game. For a first game, very good. I also published my first game in this jam, feel free to check mine out, I would be interested in your feedback.

Developer

Thank you! Your game is cool too. I especially like the demon that tells you how well you are failing. There was a little thing that I noticed where in other Tetris games, you can press up against the wall and still turn. This doesn't happen in yours, but it isn't in any way a big deal. I just noticed it because I play so much Tetris. I like the extra mechanic where your blocks clear vertically.

Thanks a lot. You are right, the rotation mechanic is quite cheap due to lack of time. I just turn and on collision I turn back, nothing fancy at all, but took only some minutes to implement :-D

Cool game for being made in only half the time!! I like the subtle story with the endings :)
A few tips: there are ways to animate the dash instead of just teleporting the player, for example just setting the velocity to a high number on the x axis. A few particles or a trail would look cool on the dash too but that's up to personal taste :)
For the platforming, it can be very annoying to have to make jumps perfectly, so lowering the gap or increasing the jump size juuust a bit can make the game more satisfying
Cool art and use of black and white!

Thank you for the detailed and enlightening feedback. To be honest, the velocity thing that you suggested IS kinda what I did, and I was thinking about adding a particle trail, but just didn't have enough time. The thing is that I set the max speed pretty low, so I have to multiply it by a certain number to make the player go any distance at all. I like the idea of increasing the jump force to make the platforming less janky.
