I really enjoyed the mechanics of this game. Cute and clever concept! Nice Work!

I would appreciate your feedback as well :D

Developer (1 edit)

Glad you enjoyed the mechanics of the game :)

Love the visuals, but I think the screen shake is way overdone. Also I found that you can just stay in the corner!

If you have time I'd appreciate it if you took a quick look at my game!

Yeah, I wish I playtested so that I could fix the game from being cheesable. I would fix it so that when the laser initializes it teleports the player to the center of the screen. Screenshake is probably overdone (but I just overdid it so I can hide how ugly the laser looks lol). :)

Fair enough lmao xD

Its is a great game the visuals are nice and the screen shake is extremely juicy.  But I found the best way to play was to camp in the corner so you could experiment with homing bullets or health boosts in the center.  Great game best of luck in the jam.

Developer

Homing bullets and health boosts would definetely add variety and make the bullet hell phase less grindy. I will consider adding if I ever decide to update this game :)

Visual and screen shake are nice. game is a little cheese-able. I just sat near an edge and pointed the laser off screen. But I enjoyed playing over all.

Developer

Yeah, I wish I playtested more so I could fix the game from being cheesable. Glad you enjoyed playing! :)

Neat game! The way you implemented the theme was quite unique and overall pretty great. The art is simplistic but very clean, and the post-processing is really nice. The music was also really well done. I liked how fluid everything felt gameplay-wise and the only thing I'd suggest modifying is the pacing of the game, as a lot of the time you're waiting a pretty long time for the next laser. I had a lot of fun playing and there was a nice balance of difficulty. Nice job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! I'm glad that you were able to enjoy the core gameplay loop of the game. I set up the pacing so ideally half the time you are dodging bullets, and then half the time you are controlling the laser. If I were to improve this game I'll try to make the dodging bullets phase feel less grindy and more interesting. Glad you had fun! :)

Oh also, if you enjoyed the music you may enjoy Lightspeed6's other compositions as well :P

Couple things i'd add, maybe the laser flips different ways, or there are spikes moving around the outsides, because I feel like I totally cheesed it by just hiding in the corner lol, cool idea and visuals, needs a bit more polish, but awesome job for a jam! :)

Developer

Yeah.. I wish I playtested more then I would have figured out the cheese issue earlier.. If I could change it I would probably make it so the player teleports to the middle of the map when the laser initializes.

I really like the idea of having to avoid killing your enemies, the shake effect from an active laser was a little disorienting, but the game itself was really fun. Great job!

Developer

Thanks, I thought I might as well invert the ruleset of a typical bullet hell game. The shake effect probably was too much (but I did that to hide how ugly the laser actually looked lol). I'm glad you had fun! :)

Glad you had fun :))

I like the idea of the game it just gets repetitive after a little bit

Developer(+1)

I guess it is a bit repetitive considering that I just copied and pasted the enemies and changed some variable values.. but I didn't have much time to add new enemies.

Glad you liked the idea of the game :)

I like the overall concept of a bullet hell that flips itself on its head. I think there's still some room to play with the mechanics, though - a mirror that reflects your laser around the room as an additional variable? Enemies that keep shooting while your laser is going off, so you have another thing to worry about?

Overall, great job! Your game is very well polished and a lot of fun to play.

Developer

Having a mirror that reflects the laser would be an interesting mechanic. I'll consider adding that in a next level if I continue to work on this game. However enemies shooting while the laser is going off may make the game difficult because it adds another level of multitasking, would have to save that for a hardcore mode. I'm glad you enjoyed my game! :)

The main idea and concept of the game is great!

Developer

Thanks!

overall a very fun little game! I really liked the animations and the laser felt very powerful

Developer

That's relieving to hear. If I had more time I would actually polish the laser even further :)

Nice Submission! I really enjoyed the music and lighting effects. Also the main laser mechanic was a fun idea!

Developer

I'm glad you liked the laser mechanic, it took so much trial and error to get that thing working :)

If you enjoyed the music you may enjoy Lightspeed6's other compositions as well :P

Very nice game! Music, gameplay and idea is nice. but i suggest putting the text as to what to do with the laser for longer, since I didnt have time to read it fully

Developer

Alright I'll keep duration of text in mind for my next game. Glad you enjoyed the gameplay though! :)
