This is fantastic - what a great first game. I really like the way the love for Space Harrier comes together with your love for the cats, and then throws in a little crank twist as well, brilliant combination all round.

The balance between cranking and shooting is set really well, so I never felt like I was idle, but I never felt like I was unfairly out of ammo. Must go back and try to get to the boss. So cute to have some real life stars. Sorry also for your loss <3

Thank you! 😻 That was the idea!

  1. Original Space Harrier had huge numbers of enemies but also infinite amount of shoots
  2. PlayDate performs bad with Lua code when there is a lot on the screen, so I wasn’t able to go with approach  “throw as much as you can at the player”
  3. Less enemies means idle time
  4. I wanted use the crank
  5. So why not use idle time, to use the crank :D

Im so glad that it went well and you enjoyed it!

What a cool way not only to keep the memory of Kebab alive but also share him with other people. I am continually impressed by games like this that push the Playdate to the edge graphically.

Agreed. Pseudo 3D always looks impressive. Such a nice way to share the memory of Kebab!
Great job on this game! Especially as your first playdate game!

You’ve managed to get across the SEGA feel! Lovely!

I really like the scrolling background and the presentation in general. The crank to recharge I was worried about, but I thought it worked well.

Great job!

ps: RIP Kebab

Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate that 😻 I know that crank mechanism should be improved a little as now it can be abused (you don't need to make full spins, and just to cross the top point, so you can go back and forth) but I will improve in the future.

I updated the file, as for some weird reason it got corrupted while uploading and I didn't realize that yesterday.
