You're On Your Own is a rage game similar to Getting Over It created for the 72 hour game jam Mini Jam 148: Connections and placed #1 out of 59 in presentation, and #7 out of 59 overall.

Thank you!

I wasn't being pulled in by the magnet. It may be an issue with the collider.

Interesting game. I kept getting stuck on the potion part since if I died or ran out of time the potion would not respawn and I was just stuck unable to move. Well done.

The theme was incorporated really well. My turrets kept stop shooting which causing my turrets to be destroyed. I'm not sure if that is supposed to happen. But over all it was cool game. Well done!

Both BitDefender and VirusTotal detects malware. I'm sure they're false positives, but you should look into it and try to fix it.

Your points are completely valid, thanks for the feedback.

Really cool game, you did very well with incorporating the theme although you didn't incorporate the limitation at all, but still it was a fun game! I got stuck when it said to drag the magnet as it didn't let me drag it. Great job!

Even after I figured out how to play I couldn't even kill one spider 😭

Really cool game though, great job!

I will admit we didn't incorporate the limitation in the best way, but we knew many games would have a stationary player the entire game, so we decided to think outside of the box and interpret the limitation in a way many people in this jam didn't, by making the player technically immobile and moved only by a yoyo. This idea also incorporates the theme of "Connections" pretty well since the Yoyo and Player are connected.

The original idea was to make the player continue to fling in a direction even after they reached the yoyo, but we felt the mechanics we currently have may be difficult enough for many. Adding this could have made the game quite difficult. The way we currently have it makes sure the player is able to have full control of their movement while it still being challenging and fair.  Not to mention that time was not on our side, and balancing that could have taken much more time than we had. While I agree the movement could definitely be improved, we felt it wasn't worth losing time and potentially missing bugs or just overall the game not turning out as well as it did, especially when we had a movement system that worked.

The artist and composer did a great job on the game, and the game wouldn't have turned out nearly as good without them.

You mentioned adding "sliding off smaller obstacles like rocks to bounce you off course". After you get above the bottom area, many of the obstacles can make you slide off down into previous parts of the level.

Thank you playing the game and giving us your feedback!

Thank you for your detailed comment. :)

This game was heavily inspired by similar games like Getting Over It and Only Up.

I agree, the Artist and Composer did a great job with the art and music/sounds, the game wouldn't have turned out nearly as good without them.

The spikes are slightly annoying, but we wanted to add some kind of obstacle to the bottom area which is why the spikes were added. There are no spikes after the bottom area and once you figure out the controls and the movement, the spikes become less annoying. I believe the game's pace is a bit faster once you get past the bottom area although I could be wrong.

Thank you for playing!

This game gets challenging quickly. This is a really cool and unique idea, well done!

This game was quite fun to play. I love the way you incorporated the limitation. Well done!

It was a bit easy once I figured out I can just spam the third tower, but it was a really cool game. Well done!

For a game about connecting wires, it was well done. Great job!

Great game, well done.

Thanks for playing. The game is meant to be a challenge, the artist on our team couldn't even beat the game 😆.

There's a gameplay video you can watch if you don't feel comfortable giving a rating based your own gameplay. Please consider rating the game for the game jam as only 4 people have rated the game so far.

Hmm, I did try that multiple times. Strange.

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the game. 😁

The music is also not was I was originally expecting, but I think our composer did great job and I actually quite enjoy the vibe the music gives the game. :)

Thanks for playing!

I wasn't sure how to use and connect the planets but I managed to earn over $10,000,000,000 each second though! Well done!

I was a bit confused until I read the description to see how to play. It's interesting to see how many games in this jam are similar to this, but each one does something different to give a unique experience. Well done!

700MB for a simple top-down 2D game made in 3 days!!!? I don't even know how that is possible.

Make sure that 700MB is correct because based on your screenshots, the game looks like it should be under 50MB. Very few people if any will download and rate your game unless you fix that.

This game was really fun to play. It also incorporated the theme and limitation very well. Well done!

:)

I gave up after 21,000 points as my hand started to hurt lol. Cool game though!

It's a really fun game although I wasn't able to get too far... Well done!

Cool game, although the movement is confusing. Most times I would barely move when I shoot, but sometimes I would go very far and even off the screen a few times. Well done.

I was a bit confused at first, but I eventually figured it out. Its such an interesting idea. Great use of the limitation. Well done!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the game.

The level is randomly generated. Unfortunately one of our last minute fixes broke the Rats, sorry about that.

Thanks for playing!

Its unfortunate the Rats never killed the player, although Spiders should have been able to kill you. The level was supposed to be darker although I must have forgot to fix the lighting. Thanks for playing! :D

Hey there, I'm looking for a team/partner for the Jam-O-Lantern 2023 or VR Halloween Jam 2023 game jam (or really just any upcoming game jam)

Reply with your Discord if you're interested.

Are you looking for another developer?

Hello, I'm looking for a team or to create a team.

If you're in need of a Unity programmer, or looking for a team, reply with your discord.

Good luck everyone! :D

What is your discord?

That's strange. Honestly I'm not sure, it sounds like a Unity issue.

I started working on this game early last year but abandoned it after a week or so.

Just a few days ago I came back to the project to finish it, and here is the final result! It's not perfect, and it does have a horrible name, but if you are interested in horror games, this one might interest you.

The Pursuer is a game where the player wakes up in a house, with the goal of escaping while being hunted down by a man with a machete.
