Godot, that’s my go-to for 2D games (and my jam games are always 2D because time issues if I was to go 3D…).

Sure, I’m in

Maybe try make the player more visible compared to the other art, (like either making other things like cars smaller or making the player itself bigger or just simply neater to see), that would already do a lot with the distraction aspect of it, also maybe give a bit more time before shifting controls/direction so that it is easier to see what is happening and get over the initial confusion created.

Rated :)

Interesting concept, definitely very chaotic too. Felt a bit distracting and confusing with all the stuff on screen at one time and the constantly changing movement but it just made it even more chaotic. One suggestion would be maybe add some SFX (or maybe there were and I didn’t hear them) when jumping or when hitting a car, also the credits that open up by pressing the button on the top-left of the UI is a bit basic, could do with a better font and maybe a background. Overall it was really cool though!

Yep, I used the whole week, I tried getting all main mechanics working in the first 3 days, then in the 4th and 5th day I made art and made code for powerups and improved the code for everything else. Then on the 6th I made the enemies (which i already made a script for just needed to tweak parameters and make the sprites). On the 6th in the evening I also exported and made the cover art as I knew I wouldn’t have time on the 7th in the morning (for me it ended at 11AM).

Now here I am just rounding the days cause really since the first day started at 11AM too that would have technically been day 1 and so day 7 would have not actualy been day 7 but yeah, I spent that day on developing on the concept, I already had a vague idea but didn’t know certain changes I’d have made.

I know! SFX was intended to be included as suggested also by the SFX volume slider in the options which currently does literally nothing, we just didn’t have time to put them in.

I’ve been told about the temple and I also realised that background also hides the time counter… so I think I’ll be recolouring some things especially for the temple stage to make it more contrasting. Bullet colour was actually temporary, i was planning to use the same colour schemes as the enemy shooting it but didn’t have time so I made a greyscale to then modulate colour over in godot only to realise that only worked on the enemies. Will fix it after the jam.

Oh i see, we didn’t have enough time but it was definitely something I would have added if I was to have had more time.

Thank you! I was out all day and I’m exhausted now but I will definitely play your game too maybe tomorrow.

Yeah well, I plan to improve it after the jam…

I already played your game and commented! You did answer to it too! It was really fun to kill all the aliens.

Nice platforming mechanics, movement is fairly smooth, a bit too much maybe but it’s good. It has a kind of retro feeling maybe because of the music and simple art style. I liked it!

Very chaotic, movement was smooth but I think it was a bit way too fast and it was easy to lose control (but this contributes to the chaos). I found however for those cannon-shooting-thingies at the corners if you overlap with them exactly then their bullets dont touch you and u become immune to them… Maybe make it so touching them also deals damage?

Will play your game soon. Before playing mine please read the game page for the controls. It’s a bullet hell where you deflect bullets.

https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-6/rate/1077360 My game^, will play your game soon too :). Read the game page before playing, controls are detailed there. It is a bullet hell where you don’t shoot but deflect bullets instead!

https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-6/rate/1077360 Here’s mine, I think you might want to read the game page carefully before starting to play as there is no in-game instructions.

https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-6/rate/1077360 Here is mine! Same name as your game… but the idea is that it is a bullet hell where you deflect bullets instead of shooting, game might softlock you every two games so just refresh the page if that happens. Game controls are in the game page.

Try mine! https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-6/rate/1077360 You can find instructions on controls and other stuff in the game page, there is no in-game instructions… It is a bullet hell where you deflect enemy bullets instead of shooting.

Loved the music in the background. It was slightly laggy but still playable. Only thing I found weird was that the buttons in the main menu didn’t work the first 3 times I pressed on them, not sure why… and movement stopped working midway during the game and then restarted after one of the aliens stopped shooting at me. The blood was a nice visual effect too!

Play mine maybe? https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-6/rate/1077360

It’s a bullet hell where you can’t shoot, but need to deflect bullets instead. Sorry tho it has a few bugs and you get softlocked every two games… There is no tutorial in-game but you can find out everything you need to know by reading the game page on itch (under the game itself).

Thanks! It was my first ever released game so it means a lot!

Oh thank you a lot then! :)

Just asking but did you leave a rating or not? Because the number didn’t seem to go up…

Sure, I’ve been told about the difficulty and I’ll tweak it after the jam. Also i will check your game out for sure!

Music was good and the game is a classic shooter game but with the waves spawning and all those particles which definitely make it chaotic, art is simple but not bad at all. My suggestion is… improve the aiming, it is extremely uncomfortable right now as 1) you are aiming with something which pivots above the player instead of of around the player 2) bullets only shoot out when clicking not when holding the left mouse button. And finally the most frustrating of all 3) The arrow which shoots is rotated 90 degrees to the right of the mouse cursor which makes aiming a bit weird, you can easily fix this by subtracting 90 degrees from the rotation of the arrow I believe (or in radians by subtracting PI/2).

Thank you!

Amazing game, I loved the graphics a lot and sound was also good, especially the sound signaling a new playthrough starting, it is veryy chaotic too, the 8 second limit contributing to it a lot. But easy level felt a bit hard to me regardless XD, the ghosts just kept bouncing onto each other and then bouncing me back which slow it down a lot. Dashing was probably something I used a lot to make life easier too. Movement was a bit bugged tho at times, it would either register late or register wrong, e.g. if I wanted to jump right I would press Space+D but D would register first and then space and I would need to make sure I was pressing space first all the time which was a bit uncomfortable. Apart from this its all good.

This definitely was very chaotic, lots of enemies spawning, some hard parkour challenges, yep definitely chaos. Liked the idea but its a bit hard for me who is trash at parkour games… Also sometimes it would bug out and if I was too close to a wall jumping wouldn’t work as high as it is meant to be. Fun overall.

Yeah, was told about the hiding in the corner issue before too, I will maybe change up the shape of the maps so you can’t do that anymore after the jam! Also yes, the environment helping you was one of the key mechanics of the game we definitely wanted to implement!

I liked the game overall although it was a bit short, having more levels would have been nice. In the end I gave up trying to jump from one platform to another when there were all those platforms with a gap and i dashed between them instead, much easier. Maybe make bullets faster or add more enemies to add in to the chaos? Also jumping is a bit unnatural as it feels like you are in a lowered gravity environment… try making it a bit more snappy and it would be great!

I just realised the comment duplicated like 3 times somehow… deleted the other two copies but weird…

A bit hard but really fun game, enemies are a bit wayy to aggressive. Maybe slow them down a bit? Moving doesn’t feel all that smooth but its good enough for the game, maybe that should be something to improve later on, but the concept is great. Couldn’t actually manage to finish the level tho… Graphics were amazing, especially the lighting, SFX were a bit muffled, but that is maybe because my pc’s speakers ain’t that good…

Oh, that’s a bit sad, still good you at least had the intention to try it. So thank you!

Glad you liked it!

This game was interesting but it can get insanely hard to coordinate both changing colour and also avoid falling, but I guess that is what makes it chaotic, and it was intended. I noticed changing colour was a bit laggy at times, not sure if that is because of my pc, because movement was alright. Good job making this.

Would you like to try my game? https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-6/rate/1077360

This was so hard! But creative! And amazing visuals at this size! Music fit in just well. One suggestion would be… Add an easy mode maybe (like slowing down the tetris blocks or just not making the spacebar both shoot and drop the block) because it gets really hard not to lose, especially on the tetris side of things…

I love the concept of this, music and art are simple but they are nonetheless good, especially the audio changing as time runs out, also both cones and minions rising in size was definitely very chaotic! Not posting my highscore tho, its fairly low as I didn’t try hard.

A nice game, I got a webGL error in my browser (I think it was either when I collided with an asteroid or with the sun, not sure). The turning felt a bit unnatural but I got used to it over time. Maybe you could make the asteroids a bit faster but put fewer of them? It would make it much more chaotic and maybe a bit more fun too that way.

Wanna give my game a try too? https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-6/rate/1077360

The game was really good and straightforward, but although I do see you tried to implement chaos by the buildings toppling over its not really all that chaotic so that would my suggestion, to try and add more chaos to it so it would have fit the theme better.
