Holy shit, dude, this comment is pure gold!

Clearly thoughtful and spent some time on this; very specific with what needed fixing and at a level that I can grasp.

Considering you watched the video (and listened to the OST itself lol), you probably inferred that I didn't bother much with mixing or EQ (it was scary and I was in crunch mode) but this comment was REALLY insightful, and I think it's a good starting point to continue to learn from.

Thanks a million, and I look forward to jam #8!

Good note on the mixing- knew someone would bring it up eventually

I could tell it was a bit rough, but wasn't sure why, so really appreciate the specifics

"A lot to learn" is absolutely flattering.

This being, and I say this in the humblest way possible, my first OST, I don't really know what I did right or wrong, but I do know that I would emulate other songs that had the sound I was looking for, then modify them. For example, on Strange Visions I just took The White Lady from Hollow Knight and moved some notes around, added some, removed some, until I was happy with it and it sounded unique enough that it wasn't a copy

So I guess my advice is listen to a lot of similar music? I hope that was at least somewhat useful

Thanks for the detailed write-up!

Thanks

Great mix of sounds and feeling on this one. From the kinda 80s scifi movie feeling of Cosmocats to the jazzy Meal Rush, you covered a ton of ground

Really really pretty soundtrack. Especially liked to piano on Shrinking World

Yeah I was going for that kinda unexpected shock of the song suddenly going from orchestral to rock, I'm just glad other people liked it as much as I did

Those words are a gift, haha

glad you liked it

Really cool progression with these tracks! They really remind me of other soundtracks in a good way, I could totally see (hear?) these in a movie or an actual game.

Blue: really love how it morphs from the ambient, undefined intro to the clear piano melody, then adds some accompaniment

Dive: Great usage of sound effects, a really adventurous tune! Percussion gives the sound of gold coins clanking together which reminds me of treasure hunts and other lost childhood memories

Wave: keeping the energy pretty high with a sort of calmer "Under The Sea" vibe which fades nicely into...

Flow: We're getting a bit deeper now. It starts off a little menacing, but once the melody, especially the (steel guitar?) kicks in, that sense of coral reef exploration is made really clear. The choir reminded me a bit of the Moana soundtrack, but that could also just the atmosphere (or lack thereof haha) talking

Sink: Keeping up the energy, but adding a little hint of mystery

Deep: starts off with ambient sounds that trigger my Subnautica PTSD, and then goes right into a pretty dark melody which would fit right into Jaws, eventually breaking into something more hopeful, more in line with Pirates of the Caribbean for example, ending on a more strenous note; we're not out of the water yet...

Breathe: calm and beautiful. I'm a sucker for good piano, and this (as well as Blue) has some really nice piano in it. Ending on a breath, which makes sense for the title... If I were to nitpick, the breath sounding a little... interesting... but other than that, solid track

Overall, really good stuff!

Crazy amount of work must have gone into this! 20 full-length tracks is insane.

Lots of good variety in them too, from really haunting ambience like Beginning of Salvation to some really groovy tunes found in the boss themes

Great cover art!

Each track sounds really unique and fitting for the feeling they're going for - Hope was my favorite

Really creepy and atmospheric! Also the first submission I've seen so far with vocals, so that was neat

Great cover art and a really cool effect on the youtube video!

Absolutely MENACING. It's ambient enough that it plays into the creepy feeling but I don't think it would be distracting from the gameplay, which is great for a video game soundtrack

Cute cat! So orange and fluffy

Oh yeah, and I guess the music was nice too...

(seriously though, loved the piano)

First off, nice cover art.

The songs are all unique, but also fit pretty well together. Overall, pretty good!

While this kinda genre isn't my personal cup of tea, I can still appreciate that you put a TON of work into this!

You very clearly know what you're doing, both with the music and the art, and the page makes this look like it's from an actual, real game.

Good work

Hey, for what sounds like a first swing at things, this is pretty good!

Of course, some of the transitions between samples are a little noticeable and not super smooth, but I wouldn't consider them too jarring.

Definitely some good ideas going on with this, and I think once you just get a bit more technical experience (which you only get by, you know, doing more stuff) I think you'll be a lot happier with your results.

Don't give up!

Really cool how you used one track to convey multiple songs! Kinda like movements in classical music. Clean transitions between them too.

Also, as the other guy said, CODING the music is, for lack of a better word, bonkers.

Really cool atmosphere with the story text added on- really feels like each song is it's own "movie"

Also- 10/10 kickass goat imagery on your site

Nice tunes- great track names.

I especially liked how on the title track, you've got a nice rock tone going which I'd normally expect in the harder side of the 80s, while keeping the song still sounding cheery

Also- I LOVE YOUR CATS!

Haha I like that you're honest with your title

Great ambience! Definitely nails that underwater feeling

Thanks for the feedback! As I'm sure you noticed, first 4 tracks were heavily inspired by Stardew, after that, I kinda just wanted to experiment with different stuff.

Really appreciate the note about reverb- mixing and mastering are new to me

Super creative take on the prompt, and concept in general!

Also, a wide array of sound on the tracks.

Great job!

Memories of Blue made me think of Finding Nemo for some reason.

Favorite was probably Halcyon Days

Man, I actually like this more than my own submission haha.

Especially Swirling Darkness

Yeah this one's my favorite

Cool little fish beat em up! I very much enjoyed fishslapping everyone

Spitting out the bones is incredibly metal. I love it

How is this the SECOND fish dating sim I've found so far...

Anyway, cute game!

(1 edit)

Never before has a video game title described me so perfectly...

Also, we need ManlyBadassHero on this NOW

I remembered why I don't play rythm games...

Anyway, funny concept, EXCELLENT bass singing on the start screen

I was going for the 'strange,' but I'm glad I was able to get some fun in there, too :)

Yeah """playtesting""" with those effects definitely ate into time I should have spent developing

Cool little game!

Not sure why, but "Need love? Find a girl." is just so funny to me in the context of a whale.

Also those orcas are PERSISTENT!

Man, this made me realize that they really did Sisyphus dirty...

Imagine having to do this for ALL ETERNITY!

It made me ragequit, but I guess that's the goal, so... good!

Took me back to my Rocket League days... I liked it!

The controls were a really cool idea, and while they could have been adjusted a bit, I think they were fine.

(1 edit)

I'm glad the ineffable Cthulhu can't be bested so easily...

P.S, loved your game!

Really really pretty!

And great Subnautica-y music

I love the low-poly art!
