Hello everyone,

My name is Tim, along with two friends, I created a puzzle game called: Multihex! In this post, I would like to share some details about the game and the design process. But first a small explanation about how the game is played.

The rules are simple: place a colored hexagonal cell on a grid. Each placed cell counts as a move. Once you are out of moves, the cells start spreading around the grid. When they can not spread any further, the cells are counted. If you have the right amount of each color, the puzzle is solved!

I came up with the game while sitting in my garden, watching the dandelions that had sprouted in some inventive places. Dandelions produce seeds which are carried by the wind, to bloom somewhere else. This way, one flower could spread along the whole garden. I tried to turn this concept into a game: place a flower on a grid and watch it spread!

While the flower idea withered during the development process of the game for a more minimalist art style, the spreading remained. The first problem encountered, was when two cells wanted to spread to the the same cell. To solve this, the colors were given meaning. Each color was given a priority according to the rainbow, red for example would always get the cell, while violet would always give it away.

At first, each cell would spread in all six directions on the grid, creating a kind of circle in the process. This did not provide many interesting puzzles, which led to the introduction of patterns on the cell. The patterns would show if the cell would spread in a circle, or perhaps a line or triangle.

After a few months of working and testing, the game is now fully released for free on android devices! A demo including the first few puzzles is also available on this site:

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!

Clean graphics and a easy to understand mechanic make for an overall enjoyable game, I liked it :)

Really cool game! I almost got a flawless first run, but the final boss of round 3 took me two tries.

If this game is ever expanded on, perhaps some more options in the shop could be a great addition. Different packs for example, where packs with higher costs increase the odds of getting a certain character. Once I got the party I wanted around midway during the game, I did not feel the need to visit the shop anymore.

Overall a very enjoyable experience, well done!

Nice visuals and smooth gameplay. I enjoyed playing it!

One of my favourite games of the jam so far, unique art style! I did get stuck on the first level, the first time I played it. The dice went inside the left leg collider shape, which meant it could not be moved anymore. After a reload, everything worked fine.

I liked to the look of the main character! Hitboxes are a little to big sometimes. Perhaps making them a bit smaller then the actual sprite could help solve this. Overall, I liked the playing it!

Feels great to play, well done!

Cute character, interesting idea for the movement, I liked it

Relaxing music and excellent graphics make this a really nice experience, well done!

Some AI generated pictures of the same animal look quite similar, making this a challenging, but enjoyable experience!

Really fun game, I had a blast playing it :)

The pixel art style is well done, I enjoyed playing the game

I enjoyed this game, but at first it took me some time to realize the sharks only move when you throw the dice. A small tutorial or a description could have helped a lot. Overall a fun experience, well done!

Fun game, with a nice visual presentation. I enjoyed playing it!

Looks and feels great to play. It had me grab an actual die a few times when I got stuck :)

Great little game, I had a blast playing it!

The game looks great and the mythology aspect is very well executed! The geese feels a bit slow to control, mainly because the walking animation is quite fast. Overall a fun experience, well done

Smooth gameplay, very fun to play! It did take me a few minutes to understand the basics, perhaps a small tutorial could help.

Great mechanic, it makes for some really fun and interesting puzzles!

(1 edit)

I have made a little walkthrough for the game! If you can not seem to get past a certain level, you can watch this video to view the solution.

Cute art style, the two worlds mechanic is a really cool concept!

Maybe you could add an invisible barrier at the bottom of each level, so when the player fall from the platform into a pit, the level can automatically be restarted.

Overall a fun game, well done!

A nice game, I like the art style! I did manage to get my bees stuck a few times, when they were bouncing indefinitely horizontal. Maybe adding a little bit of gravity once the bee does not come down on its own could solve this. Overall a fun game, well done!

The game looks great, feels amazing to play and has a really nice puzzle mechanic. Definitely my favorite game from the ones I played so far!

Avoiding these crazy babies really was a challenge, a great game overall!

The mechanic used in this game is really fun the use and fits the theme perfectly! Enemies could use a bit more balancing, especially the sorcerer with the large health pool compared to the one hit take down cows. Overall a fun experience, well done!

I would like to thank everybody who have tried my game so far, the feedback and comments are greatly appreciated! Especially the feedback about the large hitboxes from the damaging blocks, I will take it into account for games I will make in the future.

A fun game, the art style is simple but fits the game great! It would be cool if you could choose to see your time to finish once the game is completed, so you could compete against friends and family!

Nice game, amazing knowing this was made in only 48 hours. Well done!

The game looks awesome and feels great to play, well done!

A enjoyable game the game, I like the artstyle. I could move off the screen, even while playing in fullscreen mode. Maybe adding some empty gameobjects with box colliders at the edges of the screen could limit the player movement to solve this. Overall a fun experience, well done!

A really solid game, fits the theme quite nice! I enjoyed playing it

Great concept, I had a really good time playing it, well done!

A fun game to play, I like it!

The premise of the game is simple, but enjoyable nevertheless. It feels great to control and play, well done!

It has a great look and feel to it, I am really excited about how the game will turn out once it is finished!

I really liked this one, especially the way the light from the little wisp character interacts with the world. Well done!

The art style and the catchy music make this game feel great to look at! The game is also fun to play

I challenging but fun puzzle game. It reminds me of another game called pudding monsters which I used to play a lot as a kid. I enjoyed playing it, well done!

The balls feel great to control, which makes the game fun to play. Maybe adding a few decorative objects in the background could help bringing the game to life. I enjoyed playing it, well done!
