Nice concept and graphics! The only annoying thing for me are the spikes' collisions! And.. When the music ends, then it doesn't start again!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, it's a shame about the music, I will definitely fix that!

I really like the idea , the visuals are very cute ^-^

~Please check mine when have time :)

I really love the aesthetic here!! The sharp shadows and rays of light that show from objects really sell the idea of carrying light through those hallways. Also love the animation technique you used on making the wispy player character. Awesome work

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!

I love the mechanic of being a light source and lighting lanterns around levels. visuals are so cute <3. Cool game, great job!!

Developer

Thank you so much! Godot is great for lighting, glad you liked it :)

Definitely,  i  use Godot too. when i see light in a game ,i can understand this game was made with godot or not. Godot's light2d is amazing

Great work - I don't know if it was intentional, but the fact that the eyes jiggle a little bit after you move adds a lot to the character of the little ghost thing

Developer

lol yeah I was wondering if someone would notice that XD

It wasn’t exactly intentional but I did notice it and decided to not fix it and leave it in. I thought it looked like it was scared of the spikes after dying a few times and that was funny, so I left it . Thanks for noticing and playing!

Very fun game! Good job for your first game jam!

Developer

thanks!

Glad I saw your comment about the spike hitboxes. I gave them a little more leeway than I normally would've and it worked fine. I feel like this was one of the more unique takes on the theme.

Developer

Thank you! I wish I had had more time, but I am glad you like it :)

I love the general atmosphere and feel of the game. The actual gameplay is a bit too linear but I really liked the design of the last level.

Developer

Thanks!

Cool ambience. The spike hitbox is a little bit too big but the game is enjoyable nonetheless.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, the spikes are 100% the first thing I will fix :)

Cool, this game have awesome atmosphere with soft music and beautiful movment trail avatar also looks cute and peace. meditation experience. I also have some advice for details:

1.the first level win so fast even i not ready finish the second sentence.

2.the black fading effect when i win is so like the dead effect, maybe white mask fading or more soft effect is more fit, i guess it maybe also because the method of how the music fading. it sounds like everything goes wrong. and it also same with the effect when i die. I hope they could be apart

3.the collider of these spikies seems bigger than what they look, if it could be less than they look,it would be more friendly. now it’s much harder, i think it alwayss made palyer feels frustrating

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! I didn't think about having separate win and death fades, but I think it is an excellent idea. The spikes are way too big, I definitely want to change that :)

This look really good and I like the gameplay, a shame is so short

Developer

Thanks, I am glad you like it! I'll definitely be adding more levels after the voting period :)

Submitted

cute little game, so sad cuz i really wanted to finish it but the big colliders on the spikes got through my nerves, i'll be sure to check it after the game jam if you fix it!

Developer

Thanks so much!

The game is great. The aesthetic  is really cool and the music complements it perfectly. The level design is also great, even tho I noticed a difficulty spike in the last level, The contols are good but a bit slippery and the hitboxes are really big. My suggestion is after the jam ends to make the hitboxes smaller so that with the slippery controls you don't notice it that much.

Developer

I would have loved to make a ton more levels with a gradual ramp in difficulty and a lot more mechanics with the light trail, but I ran out of time. A lot of people have commented on the spikes, I will be sure to make them smaller after the jam :)

Thank you for playing!

Interesting little game! I enjoyed the dark aesthetic used, although the explosion sounds were a bit jarring with the peaceful music.

Developer

I agree, I will definitely change that post-jam!

Good jam game. I like how the lighting works.

Thank you! Godot is great for lighting :)

THE ANIMATION IS SO SLICK. is it procedurally animated?

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm not sure what procedural would entail, but I basically just attacked a line "node" to the play, told it to add a point every tick if the player is moving and shrink the point size as time goes on in a curve to create the diminishing "tail" effect.  The player is just a circle and the tail is white, so it gives the illusion of a ghostly effect :)

I love how smooth the movement is and the light trail was super great! Great job, congrats on finishing your first game jam!

Developer

Thanks! I will definitely be doing more game jams in the future, this was a lot of fun :)

Submitted

Loved how smooth the movement animations were. Lovely atmosphere, and overall a great job! Also, 'Wick' is a great name for the game, and makes it all the more charming!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!

The atmosphere is great and the music is very soothing. Reminds me of Hollow Knight. Game is simple and the lantern link mechanic can probably be explored further with some sort of timing mechanic or obstacles that extinguish the light or interrupt the connection. Overall great job! (It seems you are well aware of the spike issue so I won't mention it <3)

Developer

lol yes I am aware of the spikes now XD

 Thanks for playing!

I didn't know Godot can give you that level of lighting and shadow precision. Will definitely try Godot in the future. Quite a nice and original idea. The controls feel smooth and easy to use. The art is simple and clean. Overall good job!

Developer

thanks! Yeah I love Godot it’s a very user-friendly yet powerful engine.
