ah I can see that being confusing, I think the font I chose for the game page made “Fall” look like “Ball” haha
thank you for the feedback!
very interesting concept! Never really understood how to officially win the game, and the instructions were a little overwhelming at first. would be nice if the scroll telling you how to play could be put away because it felt like a distraction. but I got the hang of it eventually and had some fun.
great artwork too!
loved the simple mechanic, and you chose a wonderfully satisfying sound for the puffing/deflating!
would be nice if there was a way the player could get some warning of what danger is coming next, because a lot of times I found myself falling right into some random spikes and the red things.
had some fun regardless, good job!
beautiful artwork and innovative gameplay!
level design could use a bit work, because there were times I had no idea where I was supposed to go. the controls would probably feel nicer if the character with the balloon is able to walk when on the ground, instead of staying still, because you often hit the ground.
one more thing is that waiting for every scene to load was very long and I eventually got a little tired of it (even just going to the menu)
"You must upload a digital game to itch.io, which is playable by someone using a Windows PC, with nothing more than a keyboard or mouse. It should not require additional hardware or software to run." The farthest I got in the game was a pause screen that never went away at the beginning, probably because of weird buttons, so I never got to play it.
I was very excited to play this when I saw the beautiful graphics, but it's generally not a good idea to make your game for a controller, especially for a game jam when you want as many people as possible to play
very simple game and well execution to the idea.
however, the biggest problem: the sound effects for picking up the white circles is horrid, and I had to take off my earbuds to enjoy the game.
It also took me a while to realize that this was unlike the original snake and you can just pass through your body, which makes the game a little easier.
nice overall though, good job!
It was the web version. Just tried out the download version and it definitely feels smoother, but the controls are always the crisper the better. Highly suggest some more optimization for games like this which requires precision.
I also encountered this bug that seemed to be uniquely on the windows version, where once you bring up the second elevator with the mouse on, the mouse seems to phase into the elevator and get stuck, making you unable to jump
You should be really proud that you managed to compete in literally one of the largest game jams in the world!
I thought your game idea was very creative, and especially impressive for a solo game.
I can definitely understand the stress these jams can bring especially with a super short period of time, and I'd love to share with you my experience a little bit that might help you too! This was my second game jam ever, the first one with me doing all of the art and programming while working with my music composer friend. This time I got 2 of my other friends to help with programming, and that drastically reduced the workload! That would be my advice to have the most fun out of these.
When I run the executable it just tells me to choose a file, and I couldn't get it to work.
You should always test the file you uploaded on the site before leaving it, because it's usually not just an executable file you need to run the game (don't forget your folder with your assets, and whatever building the game generated).
Sorry this happened, best of luck next jam
