Gum Flesh itch page

About Gum Flesh:

Gum Flesh is a turn based roguelike that takes place on the back of a celestial monster. Use your wits and fragile supplies to take on strange creatures and fauna on a planet where you are definitely not welcome. The air is different here. Your body is starting to change.

About the demo:

This demo is very very early. It's missing tons of systems, art, and sound and music. You've been warned.

I want to get the community involved as early as possible. I've been running very small play sessions with friends and family with promising results. So this demo is really about getting a lot of feedback.

The demo will provide you with a form to leave some feedback. (it's just a google form) It would be awesome if you took the time to fill that out. Or you can leave feedback here, or any other way you find. But if you just want to check out the game, that's is totally awesome as well.

I would highly suggest going through the tutorial.

Gum Flesh is playable with keyboard, gamepad and mouse. Share Gum Flesh with your friends! And don't forget to leave some feedback!

Ah I'm sorry about the frame rate. I had no hand in the ports so unfortunately I'm at the mercy of the publisher. I do pester them to get it fixed but their replies are usually "no" :(

Hello! No bother at all.  I did get in touch with him. I know he's pretty busy. Do you play on steam? If you do, I could hook you up with the soundtrack via a gift :)

Ohh gotcha! I'll check with Ben to see if he's planning to update those platforms.

Hello! Yep it's updated on Steam. Unless you listen to it elsewhere like youtube or band camp. I'm not sure if those are updated. Ben handles those accounts.

Yo! It's funny, I was listening to the soundtrack the other day and realized this too! Wasn't sure anyone cared till now. I'm sure we can get that fixed for ya :)

I hadn't heard of Abadox until after I finished making Rheum but they are pretty similar! Though Abadox may be grosser :D

Ah love a good boss fight in my endless runner. I felt the poison fruit was a bit mean. Like it was placed in a way that usually meant i couldn't take any of the surrounding fruit. This game is really juicy! Loved how even dying was satisfying. Really nice job!

Oooooh!! Ok it took me a second to figure what was going. It didn't register at first that my ball was moving around the room as well (which should've been obvious to me because of you know....curling). I thought I was just shooting the bad guys. Ok this is cool! Very effective graphics. Snappy satisfying sound fx. My only critique would be, maybe add a background that makes it easier to tell that the player is also zipping around the room. And then a scoring mechanic. Cause this was really fun! Very polished. Nice job!

I enjoyed this! Shooting the different colors was a nice touch to the asteroid gameplay. And the trail changing color was cool. Eventually asteroids stopped spawning though :( I really liked how fast your ship shoots in this. That's my least favorite thing about original asteroids. Nice job!!

Top notch visuals and music! Platforming was tight and precise and really fun! But the checkpoints could've been a bit more generously placed in my opinion. This lead to having to repeat easy sections only to die at a difficult part.  The other thing is the screen only fit when I zoomed out my browser. Very minor. But overall this was an excellent submission! Nice job!

Love the frog sprite and the music was bangin! Some kind of meter to show when you could next inhale flies would be nice info to have. But overall nice job!

I really enjoyed this! The concept and use of theme is really nice. It was kinda hard to tell what was going to hurt me and what wouldn't but that sort of thing is quick to figure out. Nice job!

Nice job! I really enjoyed this one. I felt slightly overwhelmed until I realized you could stack cards which in hindsight is obvious. Art and Audio is really well done.  Again, really good job! :)

This one is really cool! I love the perspective. Nice job!

If  you're a player and didn't have fun, go back to the game and take it sloooow. I went in thinking I had to go up as fast as I could and I did not have a good time this way. But then I saw all the glowing reviews and I figured I missed something. I didn't realize the screen only moved up when you move up and I could take each platform one at a time. With this new perspective I HAD A BLAST! Really fun addicting gameplay and nice art. I may be just bad at it but there were a few times where I thought platforms where unfairly placed. But overall super job on this!

Moral of the story: always give birds your extra breads. So well written illustrated! Nice job!

Really nice game! The visuals were great and the controls were quick and easy to get the hang of! Nice job!

Soooo goood. The level of polish here is astounding. I don't know why but card games always seem daunting to make and even more so the learn to me. But was so simple yet there's a lot of depth here as well. Well done!!

Woh this is good! From the visuals to the music/sfx to the theme use, top scores! The mix of being zoomed in and the unforgiving hit boxes felt a little bit too hard at first but I think the game would be too easy if it was zoomed out. Super nice job from everyone involved!!

First off, excellent job for your first game jam! I think the concept is really cool and I know with some polish it could be a full fleshed game. Nice job!!

Loved this! Very nice use of theme. Visual and audio where top as well! Nice job!

This is wild! I love the odd almost micro organism like animals! And like the description, it is easy to build a zoo. ;) Nice work!

(1 edit)

Love this game! Music and sound fx are super snappy and fun, and coupled with the art, the game is very charming! One little critique that comes to mind: it would be nice to be able to see how many hits are required to remove a shield. Unless it's the same every time. But maybe that would remove too much of the difficulty which I think is in a good spot. But overall I loved it. Nice job!

This a really nice take on the theme! I wasn't sure what it was until later levels so the difficulty curve was very good. Art was really good! Nice job! :)

Thank you for playing and the detailed feedback! Yeah even now, my brain is confused by where I need to place tiles to get a combo so that needs a rework for sure. Right now scoring is very basic. 50 points for placing a tile, and 100 points if you combo two buildings, and then 50 points for every tile that's not a spike. But I juuuust implemented some chaining combos where you can plan out a huge group of buildings, and then when you fire off the first combo, the others fall in place. You can do that now but it doesn't give any extra points. But yea! A list to be able to see all available combos will be added :) Thanks again for the kind words!!

Heey thank you for the kind words! I didn't even realize I made that pun haha! :D

The penguin was so adorable! I love the way it tip toed around. I liked the water and ice mechanics!  I thiiiink the game broke after completing the third level. The screen went blue. This was a really great puzzle game all around! Nice job to all!

Audio and art are sooo so good! This game is proof that you don't need screenshake to make a game feel good. Everything just felt so cozy and calm. It was really great chill experience. Excellent job to all involved!

Nice job to all involved! The art and music were really good. I especially liked the boss art. Very menacing.

Well done! I think I wasn't supposed to kill the animals but I did on accident :(

I definitely played this game the longest so far... I got 325. I loved it. At first glance it's a cute juicy little highscore chaser, but then I started forming little micro strategies each time new bits spawned. And then those strategies went to crap and I had to improvise through these tiny little openings where I had almost blocked off a path to the last few bits. So good. Nice job!!

Wow well done! I thought getting 11 was doing pretty good but then I saw people with highscores into the 50s o.O This was such a good entry. Super clever use of theme and all other aspects are top notch!

Thank you! I almost made a button that did nothing, besides being extra juicy.  I figured that'd be too confusing so I made it the difficulty button :D

I do need a few bits to show what's what for sure. Thank you for the kind feedback and for playing!! :D

Thank you for playing for the kind words!! I spent a lot of time on juice :D

I loved this game!! Use of theme was excellent. And gameplay was suuuuper satisfying. Nice job!

Such a great idea! And executed flawlessly. Well done!

Wow I really like this! Once I figured out was going on, I was having lots of fun. I especially loved the use of the theme in this. The decision to sacrifice a resource producer for a quick surplus was even more weightier because of losing that plot of land permanently. And the art and music were super top notch. I suggest sharing this with roguelike communities as I think it seriously fills void in that genre. Nice job!

I had a lot of fun with this! I liked how you had to sacrifice your guy in some places but then time seemed to pass and it was just bones :D Nice little feature!
