Nice game! It looks really appealing on the poster , but there is some loading problem that at the beginning it is too dark when I play it on website
Thanks for playing the game, i think u should press E or space i don't remember
I think the ability is really cool and sets the atmosphere very well. I liked the attention to detail with the ideas of light and dark, and even the different shades of blue used throughout, I think you did a great job on this game!
Thanks for playing our game, we really appreciate That you enjoyed it!
Nice work! feel free to play and rate my game too: https://itch.io/jam/-pixel-game-jam-2024/rate/2718966
Played it and rated it
I think the concept was good but felt that the ability needs a negative consequence so that using it feels more impactful. Otherwise it just felt like an inconvenience to have to keep activating it.
I'd like to have to think before using it like if I use it the neighbouring bombs will swarm towards me but if I don't use it I can't see. Basically making it a lesser of two evils rather than this arbitrary ability that is necessary to play the game but serves no other gameplay purpose or consequence beyond that.
i really do like the concept though just felt that the stakes should be higher.
thanks a lot this is a very helpful feedback
It is a bit confusing when I started the game. The whale is cute.
good job man!
Thanks!
I was initially confused because I couldn't see well and kept bumping into objects. I tried improving the graphics quality, but that didn't help. Then, I noticed a strange button in the main menu with a wrench symbol, which usually indicates game settings. Surprisingly, it led to instructions on how to play the game. After reading the instructions, I really enjoyed the game. I'm impressed by the echo localization mechanic; it's truly brilliant. I've played a few games on itch.io, but this one really impressed me. My only suggestion is to make accessing the game's command menu more intuitive. Otherwise, great work!
Thanks a lot for playing our game, We noticed this issue and we will fix it after the game, thanks for the review!
Art
The color scheme looks really cool, but at the same time it leads to a lot of problems. Because basically everything is black, it's difficult to say where the dangerous objects are (like spikes, bomb shells) or determine whether some wall is a part of the foreground (so it's an obstacle) or a part of the background. Also, as for the style, basically all sprites have a different pixel ratio and that kept bugging me. You had a very pixelly background and hyper-detailed sharks or bombs.
Movement
The hitboxes were really trippy. If you just try swimming against a wall you see how much bigger your hitbox is than it should be. It was really problematic. The swimming was really odd. I felt as if I kept accelerating and decelerating when swimming. This gives you a bunch of problems, since it's a game that requires your moves to be precise.
Sound effects
I really enjoyed the sound effects. They did justice to the game's atmosphere. It was very cool. Though the game over screen had a pretty irritating sound effect that doesn't fit the rest at all. I would probably preffer if the mother whale made a big cry. This would've made the player feel bad, instead of irritated.
Mechanics
Maybe that's just me, but I feel like the sonar ability doesn't really seem to add a lot. All it currently does, is it forces you to slow down, even though you are already going really slowly. Maybe you could make it so normally you can already see, but when you turn on your ability you see more but go slower.
It's a really cool game. It's also surprisingly similar to my axolotl game! Good job!
Love the art for the level and how the sonar ability is unique. I can see you expand on it and make a nice adventure game.
Thanks a lot for playing our game we really appreciate that you liked it!
I like the sound effects and the dark ambiance of the game. I would say that the green bubble maybe should be changed into small fish/ seaweed to show that the whale is eating them to gain hearts. I also really love the echolocation ability and I would love to see it expanded for example making shark enemies drawn to you when using the echolocation ability, so you have to think carefully about when you use it. Amazing game!
Thanks so much for playing our game, the ideas that you mentioned are good we will put it in the game after the jam and the bubble is not green it's yellow 🙂
We had shark enemies and a lot of other enemies lined up but we couldn't implement because of the time crunch
I liked it a lot. Asset for health pickup could be better and you can get lost easily but the sonar ability is very unique
Thanks for playing the game and we will fix the game after the jam
The best pixel game ever with good adventure it is so interesting ❤
thanks a lot!
Awesome game
Thanks!
Art and sound are quite well executed. The concept is pretty good.
Thanks for playing our game! we appreciate it a lot
interesting game, but the collider setting have some problem, fix it can be better
thanks for the feedback, we will fix it after the jam
Interesting concept! But it’s definitely worth adding navigation tips to the game or simplifying the level a little. I got lost several times! 😄
Sure we'll do it after the game jam and thanks for playing our game
The game is absolutely gorgeous, it's incredible how much you did with such simple graphics.
However, mechanically it is very lacking. The sonar mechanic serves no purpose other than blinding you at the worst time when you're dodging a moving obstacle.
The player hitbox is immense, making sneaking through narrow passages impossible. There are often times you think you can squeeze between a mine and the terrain just to be dragged by your hitbox to hit the mine.
There are several background features that look exactly the same as the level walls, making it guesswork to figure out whether you can pass through a black spot or not.
I found it very easy to get lost, there is no way to know which way is "forward", if you're making any progress or what.
There is potential, especially being a jam game, and these issues can be very easily fixed and improved upon. Keep it up! Focus on the making the core mechanics, moving and sonar, feel good to use.
Thanks for reviewing the game, i know it's not perfect bec the game like you said in a jam, we will fix it and thanks for playing the game again
The atmosphere, lighting and sound design really make you feel like you're underwater. The game itself was fun and quite challenging. Really loved the mechanics of having to consentrate on your ability to see things; it added a fun and unexpected challenge and caught me off guard multiple times. Nice game, good job!
thanks a lot for playing our game
Very nice game!
Thanks bro
Good job with the deep sea atmosphere! I noticed when I was using the sonar that the game would lock up for a second before continuing, but that may just be a browser bug. Nice work!
thanks a lot we are really appreciate your comment
