Does this submission follow the optional theme?

Yes

This submission follows the optional theme "At the edge".

Description of the game
The game revolves around fighting to keep your temporary invincibility, which depletes more rapidly the longer you've been invincible. So, you're always "on the edge" of becoming vulnerable again! Yeah, maybe it's a bit of a stretch to fit the theme, but I ended up making this in less than one day. Oops!

Loved how whimsical this was, really delightful to play. The music style is really good, and I liked the different vibes you get from the red and green squares - smoother transitions would adda  bit of shine to this but very impressive for 24 hours. Also really amused by the face the red squares make when you hit them around!

Developer

Thank you so much! I was trying to make it whimsical, and I'm really glad you liked the variety of different musical vibes!

Yeah, I agree, I was disappointed I couldn't get the adaptive music working more smoothly in time. I'm glad it was still effective and enjoyable to play though.

Haha, the extra face on the red squares was actually almost a last-minute idea. I thought it'd make the game more satisfying to play, as well as helping indicate which red squares were no longer a threat (though you could probably tell this from the fact they've been thrown across the screen anyway).

Thank you for the wonderful feedback!

All around great game especially for 24h of work! The overall goofiness is really fun. Great adaptive music :)

Developer

Thank you so much! :) I like trying to add some goofiness in to my creations when I can. I'm glad you liked the adaptive music too! I was a little unsure about whether it would be effective.

After you reach a certain speed (I would say around 2000) it is almost impossible to lose your invincibility, which makes you build speed forever. Green squares are litteraly thrown at you, and red squares accumulate at the bottom of the screen... love this chaos!

Music is funny, gameplay is simple but for some reason I enjoyed smashing red boxes! =p

Good job for making it in less than one day.

Developer

Thank you so much! Yeah, the speed gets a bit much, and I was like "Sure, why not."

The red squares accumulating at the bottom of the screen was initially an accident due to having a large platform offscreen down there, so I tried removing it, but then I was like "Ehhh... I think it was more fun when the red squares piled up", so I added it back in. :') I'm glad you enjoyed the chaos!

Ah, awesome, I'm glad you found it satisfying! 😊 I knew I wouldn't be able to do anything super complex in the time I had left, so I tried to make it fun to play, even if there wasn't much challenge.

Thank you for the kind words!

I like how the music is epic and goofy at the same time.

Developer(+1)

Ah, thank you! I strive to make as many aspects of my life both as epic and goofy as possible, so that means a lot to me.

This game is fun! I love the abrupt chaos you reach with a speed above 1000/1500 when you cannot slow down anymore.

Adding physics to the red blocks was a good idea

Developer

Thank you very much! I'm so glad you approve of my design decisions. :') Yeah, the red blocks' physics wasn't in my original plan, but then I was like, "What if physics... and chain reactions... Yeah, that seems like a good idea."

The un-slow-down-able speeds were not intended, but when I noticed them happening, I was just like, "Oh, sure, that works. Let's leave that."

(I did make one tiny tweak of stopping the red blocks from following you around once you're invincible, just so you might still be able to dodge out of their way once you're moving at high speed, but still left them aiming towards the player by default when they spawn, just in case the player wants to continue blasting through them all... y'know, for fun.)

Glad you liked it!

Was a lot of fun, made it to 1,000,000!
Picking up speed was a fun mechanic. Awesome job for doing it in a day!

Developer(+1)

Whoa, well done! I wish I could've had some kind of in-game reward for you getting that far, if only I'd had more time. :')

I'm glad you liked the speeding-up, and thank you!

I had fun crossing roads as Yui in your entry and getting hit by trucks. 😁

Love the liveliness of the music and overall goofy mood. Sorry to hear that your first attempt wasn't working out, but its great to see that you managed to bring something together still! And for a last minute attempt the adaptive music part works pretty well!

Developer

Aw, thank you! That's really nice feedback to hear. :) Yeah, I was trying with Unity for nearly the first six days, but was having some tricky bugs, so I decided to give Construct 2 a try instead (since I'm more familiar with it), which resulted in this.

Creative and cute! Lovely concept, it would also play great on mobile I bet!

Developer

Thank you very much! Yeah, I should probably try my hand at making mobile-friendly versions of some of my games sometime!

Simple but effective gameplay!
I like the song, it doesn't get too repetitive I feel like.

At some point, I don't know what I did but I think I broke the game. The red squares were giving me Speed up bonus, so I was able to get to insane speed:

It was going so fast I couldn't keep up with the squares anymore :P

Good job on your submission!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! :D Yeah, I started over to make this during the last 24 hours, so I had to keep it simple. I'm glad the song didn't get repetitive!

Oops! Wow, that's the fastest speed I've seen in it! Haha, yeah, once you start moving fast enough, it's very difficult to slow down. Not intentional, but kinda fun, and I was running out of time, so I left it like that!

Thank you for playing!

Run, run as fast as you can. This was quite the experience, thank you. I feel like it could be put to good effect in a scene in a stoner movie, which is a compliment.

Developer

Thank you very much for the compliment! You're welcome, I'm glad to hear it was a good experience for you. Interesting suggestion, maybe I should make use of that!

Developer

I do! Well, an account, or do you mean a server? Maybe I should make one of those sometime.
