I will say, I've yet to find a bad Godot game in a game jam, and this is a really cool concept for a game! I was really surprised when the first player character was killed, and at first I thought I did something wrong, but then realized how cool of an idea it was to do that. Once I got to the end of the second area, I'm assuming that I reached the end of the game, but there didn't seem to be anything there. If there was supposed to be a boss, it wasn't spawning for me. If I was just doing something wrong, I'll go back and try again.
Music sounded amazing, art style was great, had a decent story. I could see this game getting pretty far, and I'm hoping to see an extended version eventually!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you've enjoyed it!
The second area's exit is on the mountains on the right side, where there's a strong wind (unless you've got the item)
It's very hard to see atm because everything is white and empty there, we didn't manage to add effects like a visual wind effect or any indication at all that it's where you need to go haha
love the story! love the 2.5 D perspective, it's great! really enjoy playing it!
Humorous game, I like the premise of becoming the villain. I enjoyed interacting with the few scattered characters and found myself smiling at all of the dialog portions after getting past the whole "I'm the hero" portion. The gameplay feels pretty tight for a two week jam and the lock-on system was a nice touch. An autosave function would be very welcome, as I got to nearly the end of level 2 on my first run and fell off the side of the world :[ At least the death noise was hilarious.
The camera felt a little wonky. Perhaps we could move the camera without requiring the right click, but I feel a lot of the wonkiness could be solved if the walls in the original dungeon were about half as tall as they are.
The music is delightful, neat guitar work. Lots of it reminded me of Chrono Cross which is probably my favorite OST in existence, so extra kudos for that. Specifically the track when talking to the villagers afraid of the wolf, that's a dang fine one.
Overall, very original and enjoyable submission, nice to see some action adventure in the mix here!
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! ♥
I'm very glad you liked the music and the writing! We absolutely will polish up the camera and controls and other immediate QoL things first thing next!
I like the way the world looks in 2.5D! I wish it was a bit harder to die, but I'll chalk that up to me being bad at videogames lol.
I hope to see this kind of project developed in the future, it has so much potential. Loved the funny little story, and gameplay-wise I thought it was smooth and easy to carry on! I just wish it wasn't so easy to die from falling off.
Thank you so much, it means a lot to hear this!
We'll most definitely finish the rest of the levels and post the full version soon (potentially might expand into a fully polished game, but who knows!)
Lot’s of action! sometimes the hitboxes didn’t seem to register. The maze was really tough! Mtached the characters tough attitude. Really cool font for the games title.
Thank you! Yeah the hits are really tough to get in without lock-on, and the camera not hitting the walls def doesn't help so we'll fix that first probably. Thankfully the javelin throw skill can help a lot in the first level so it goes by fairly quick!
Honestly I completely forgot about the lockon mechanic! I’ll give it another go.
Let me know what you think if you do! :D
Also, if you got the post-jam version you can save/quicksave/quickload which definitely avoids much pain when having to restart the game from zero, haha
This is interesting, but the spider was too op it forced me to use my gamer move XD
I was going to play your game (since you played mine), but I don't have a way to open 7z files :(
Ohh, that's very fair, sorry about that-- I've uploaded a simple .zip version! It's slightly larger compared to .7z but doesn't require any additional programs to unpack on Windows.
Alright I played it, but the game was too hard for me lol. And I kept forgetting to save meaning I would have to go back when I died. Maybe some kind of auto save feature? Other than that and some visual and camera wonkiness. This game was cool!
Thank you so much! And yeah auto-save def would be a much needed QoL improvement!
We also gotta polish the camera & combat for sure, as it's now it's either really hard or really easy, depending on if the player finds those 1-2 moves that are spammy with lock-on turned on and plough through everything haha
This was really cool, loved the ideas and the puzzles !
Your game's story and 2.5D presentation are fun! It was nice playing a tougher action-adventure after trying out so many puzzlers.
Took some time to get a hang of the controls, but when I did, I enjoyed this game very much. Great work!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it thus far! And yeah the targeting and slippy run can be a bit odd at first, definitely need to polish it more!
Loved the story, the wolf gave me a hard time but I somehow managed to beat his ass eventually after like 2 tries.
I'm a really big fan of 2.5D games like this, so I personally really enjoyed the look and aesthetic of the game. Y'all did great!
Haha yeah, he's quite ferocious! We'll def gonna get around to tweak the balance of the enemies too though, so we might see how it turns out in the end.
I'm very glad you liked so far! And same here, 2.5D are so funnn ♥
Quite a maze you've got there! A bit hard to control, but I learned to be a good sprinter anyway). Spider hit hard, maybe wasn't expecting that a challenge for adventure game. Theme song felt repetitive and I wished for some fresh minimalistic ambience of exploration, but the overall mood is real good!
Hey, thanks so much for playing!
There's definitely more ambience and exploration & theme songs after the spider, if you manage to get past that first bit! We were able to make around 3-4 levels in total before the jam ended, gonna work on the rest for the full adventure soon :D
Anything specifics about the controls by the way? I'd really like to polish them more!
I'm still managing through). Though, I really wished to sprint pass the spider and else)). Though, I believe I wanted the game narrative develop faster (feels I had too much mazes for previous months).
Well, maybe I'm not a fan of manual camera rotation. Especially, when sprinting! Maybe try a different camera positioning. Also, target lock could be automatical, to make the game more adventurous, less of a battle. In this case (if no camera controls) mouse can be used for both Attack and Special Move.
Actually, this kind of story and design asks for some Bard's Tale kinda humor (mocking most of the RPGs). I feel that somehow.
Make it the full adventure, aye! Shall play.
I see I see, thank you so much for the feedback! ♥
And yeah, I definitely can feel that about mazes! haha
I love the 2.5D art style you've given to the game! The UI also feels smooth imo, great work!
Thank you! UIs can be tedious to program, but it's very satisfying when they come out clean and tidy! haha
