  • The game's immersion is really good, I think the crowd, although doesn't impact gameplay directly, it really makes it feel a lot more immersive when you're fighting in the arena. There is also a good amount of depth with the different enemies and a lot of upgrades for a variety of weapon, armor and powerups

Hey!

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

Hey Teezaboo!

How are you? My name is Ilias.

I tested your game, "The Arena."

I encountered a freeze screen when I clicked on "Play" in the starting menu for the first time. I believe it might be a bug. I am using Microsoft Edge.

I was initially planning to provide feedback on the controls, suggesting they could be more comfortable, but I noticed that no one had mentioned it in the comments section ,so maybe it'snot really an issue .

Questions:

  1. Did you implement any optimization techniques, or did you choose to use only in-engine optimizations?
  2. What engine and tools did you use to create your game, including the graphics?
  3. How challenging was it to develop your game? Did you face any significant obstacles?
  4. What inspired your game idea and gameplay? Could you share the story behind the game's name?
  5. How did you get into video game development?

Note: It would mean a great deal to me if you could rate my game. If you haven't already, feedback from friends and fellow gamers is valuable to me. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your time.

Thanks!

-Ilias.

i really liked the crowd animation and the different types of enemies!

The crows really add to the atmosphere of the game. Took me a few tries to get hang of it as I was taking too much damage. I actually did not expect the upgrade/leveling system lol that was a nice surprise. Great overall entry!

Also, There is another game in this jam with a similar setting called 'Gladius'. You guys could collaborate & work on a project haha

Fun game with a great leveling system, i really like the crowd creates a good atmosphere, noticed a bug where the player stat upgrades dont save :)

I absolutely adore everything about this one !

Reminded me a lot of sword and sandals or sword and souls. Great upgrade system, challenging opponents, all of this is so neat and varied. The gameplay differences between the giants skeleton and the trident orc are striking, love that.

My only complaint is having to restart from scratch after each death, really good entry;

The game looks really nice. I also liked the variety in the game. Nice work!

Interesting gladiator simulator

thank you :)

The game has quite a lot of features that are implemented in just 10 days. The only game that has leveling (I haven't played all the games, I could be wrong). Experience 5/5

Developer

I spent a lot of time working on the leveling support system. Thank you for seeing. Thank you bro.

Impressive game, lots of customization, different weapons and so on, well done! The fights are a bit basics but still stressful, and the ambiance of the crowd is great, really feels like gladiators! Good job, nice entry!

Nice! Quite a bit of replayability in this hidden gem. Visuals were fitting overall ( not perfect necessarily, but consistent ). Gameplay itself was pretty OK, but what stood out most for me was the upgrades and customizability between the fights.

Regarding the rivalry : I think it would be nice to have your gladiator rise the ranks. I have not gotten to that point, so correct me if I'm wrong, i'll probably try it again!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for seeing the potential of this game. I put a lot into it. Thank you for the advice. I would think it would be good too.

Cute gladiator. Especially his eyes (0_0)

As for me it would be better to have a restart the level option rather to start over

Developer

Hello, those cute little eyes are staring at you. Thank you for looking at all the little details I put together. Make the players feel more insecure :) I agree that there should be a save system but because I didn't make it in time I just reset the game instead. Sorry about the mistake above.
