game review: bro thinks he's christopher nolan (he is)

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to play & giving detailed feedback on the game. The given feedback is totally valid as I had concerns about the same points as well. For the frame rate issue I did optimize it at the end but guess it wasn't enough :( (runs well on my pc and i have a r5 1600, 3060) I hope it doesn't dissuade people but knowing how game jams go, it probably will 😅 2nd point is something I thought of as well but I guess i suffered from the 'developer perspective' said its fine hahah.
I was going for innovation & uniqueness glad to see it come out well :)

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback & the kind words man. 🙏 (also that score already is pretty competitive haha but looking forward to seeing how far you go!! ) Yep Definitely could do with variety/balancing but ran out of no time (hence no sound fxs too) :( At the moment, there are no plans cause I feel its not 'good enough' to sell but maybe with features/maps & such that can be changed

Honestly, for a first time entry this is awesome. While not being able to bring your vision 100% to life can feel little demotivating, gamejams are literally meant to polish these 'skills' over time so don't worry too much about it. 99% of the games here had to cut down on features from their original 'idea' so we're all in the same boat. That'll be super cool to see!

No worries mate! We game devs are here to support each other 🤝

I am still glad that you managed to fix it with that extra time. It sucks that your true vision couldn't be brought because of webGL but hey its much better than the unplayable white screen.

Oh that's cool! And once again, you're welcome! (Yes I've rated the game already 😊)

As a dev, I'm sure we all have encountered this where the game feels too easy to us but is actually not that easy haha. I don't think the main player's look should be different tbh. Like I think the number of the 'crowd' could be more gradually increased as opposed to now & maybe when you kill & have the cooldown you can add more 'visibility' to the crowd. (the player vs NPC look during that period only) just my two cents haha

That's super to hear that the game will be moving forward! All the best!

Again, it really shows in the game that you thought of the problem of bringing players together at the same time in the game & found a solution to that.

I'm not surprised the game has picked up pace - That's super awesome to see! Very well deserved.

Yes they will!

Don't worry about it bro! You'll only get better & better! 😄

Finally got to play the most rated game in the jam! I was seeing the progress on discord, The final game has really turned out super fun!

Game balance could slightly be less hard (but I find games usually hard so thats just me) As someone said that this is like among us and now that I think about it, it kinda is xD

Very solid implementation of the companion as well. Sound effects match well with the overall game.

Great experience. Would definitely recommend it to a friend! 😁

Hey Marius! finally got to play your game bro, for 16 hours, this is a very well made game, I really think this would have been insane if you had more time. The only RTS game in the jam. So rarity 1/1 💯
Really Fun game, Sadly RTS is not my thing so I couldn't make the leaderboards :(

Thank you! Glad the game balance has been suitable for all (it is always tough to get it right)

Yes, I'll agree myself - More Zombies, More Guns & Sound FX in an update!

Saw the character progress on discord. Character controller was smooth. Nice use of companion as well. It hurts me as well that the game couldn't be as intended by you :(

The lack of photos & description made me think how does this game have high ratings but after jumping in the game I realized why. Well polished game. It would be nice to have difficulty levels (easy, normal, hard, extreme etc) but overall very well experience :)

I'm glad there is at least one speed running game in the game jam. I did see the game on discord a few times, finally got to playing it. Grappling hook is a really satisfying mechanic & It was well done. Has the skill graph required for speed running game. I almost only used grappling hook to move which is a good intended 'hack' for the player to feel super skilled. Well done as a dev on including that!

(P.S if you break top 3 I would like to see the jar of mayo thing hahaha)

What is that ARTWORK. HOLY. It really blows my mind. Idk how much is AI generated but even so implementation is much much harder than one would think & you've done that amazingly!

Slight game balance would do very well to the game! Everything else was great, didn't experience any noticeable bugs or such!

[Before Playing]
Hey roger, Finally getting to play your game! Your ruthless leaderboard smashing play in my game still has me flabbergasted 😂

[After Playing]

Man, this game. Wow. I love the training AI concept. (I already knew about it via discord but I didn't exactly know how it would work) The really impressive thing for me was the ELO & matchmaking system. Alot of games have multiplayer & you can't really play against/with other players. But this 'static' style of multiplayer as you're competing with leaderboards players again only possible cause they trained their 'AI'. Amazing concept. How much time did it take you to think of this? We've seen time & time again that simple controls can be really addictive & this is the case for this game.
Top level entry this one! 👏

Edit: I sadly do not have the leaderboard smashing spirit such as yourself so excuse my low score haha

Thank you & Yes I really wanted people to 'train' the zombies like in COD zombies. I'm so happy someone got to do that. Thank you man! 😭

Yes, Sound effects has hindered the exp much more than I expected but I blame the burnout & over scoping ahaha. No worries. I shall take more care of sound design in my next jam game. c

Yeah, makes sense. It basically makes the game much more grindy than say if you got a cheaper weapon at start. I even thought of letting the start weapon not change ever but then decided against it.

Thank you once again! 🙏

Multiplayer implementation alone deserves a round of applause 👏I didn't see the helicopter as a companion until I read the description & then thought that's a cool interpretation! unfortunately, There are game breaking bugs but when there are none, the gameplay is nice - the world gives a good survival feel even though its quite simple. 😁 (Honestly, pat yourselves on the back for a multiplayer survival game in such a short timie)

I did see the webgl build issues as well as graphical issues that were being discussed on discord. That's okay though glad to see the entry in the jam & not being left out (initially). The concept is unique in the sense you're a 'teapot' an object as opposed to a character. Initially I thought the cards would be like hidden or something but that wasn't the case & were openly around which is good imo. Controls were fluid as well. As mentioned by some, the player position could be slightly more towards the center although I didn't really feel it hindered the experience as I was able to see more of the world & have better movement vision.

This was surprisingly addictive. Kill FX & 'Juice' would add significantly to the addictive factor. Great little entry.

Also - This is a great 'cat' game - there are apps/games that have bugs crawl around & you give it to your cat & they play it. There are tons of videos online. This could be one of those - you should definitely release it on mobile/tablets with some changes & target it towards cat owners!

The crows really add to the atmosphere of the game. Took me a few tries to get hang of it as I was taking too much damage. I actually did not expect the upgrade/leveling system lol that was a nice surprise. Great overall entry!

Also, There is another game in this jam with a similar setting called 'Gladius'. You guys could collaborate & work on a project haha

This reminds me of early miniclip/flash games days. I only wish the controls were continuous as opposed to single press. As others have said, a bit of variety would go a long way but nonetheless great work :)

Damn, How did you guys manage the polish on this one, even the itch page 👏 Definitely very well organized team. the concept of having two ships pass through the ring & the 'streak' thing really makes the game stand out. I always appreciate & like fluid mouse controls. Very satisfying.
Congratulations on this entry to all the team members! 👏

Okay, this was such a really really really good entry. One of my favs. Love the concept. Absolutely love it. The white brother & refraction thing was really impressive to me. Fluid responsive controls - great variety of obstacles & such. Very good balance as well. Easy to pick up - Hard to master kind of gameplay. Honestly there are always bits to improve in a game but I only wish to say positive things about this one.
Well done. 👏

Thank you! 😁

I've been rating games from lowest-to-highest order so haven't gotten around to rating your game yet, very excited to play the final version since you were sharing the progress on discord!

😂😂

Thank you! I tried my best 😅

As a solo project, the artwork really is an impressive thing. I forgot to add in the original comment but it also made me crave a good pizza! 😂

Yep you could definitely look into working more in the game & expanding on creative things like the nade buying order. Its a simple mechanic but really good strategic possibilities mechanic! :)

Yeah I was about to type that as well, that the companion can have attack 'patterns' & such but I realised you probably had that in my mind but its a game jam game so had to leave it out due to time constraints

The submit button was doing some issues - could be that I missed something in the instructions. I'll give it a go again!

That's awesome to hear! glad the game is going further!

Yeah coding a good AI takes time so it's understandable - just giving feedback! 😁

Was following the progress on discord - Great to see the final result (despite the multiplayer issues during last hours haha)

Insane Arcade Feel. Really unique idea of using companion as 'bullets' - I did not know that till now even though I saw the early progress lol. Like the polish/Transition screens!

Also great to see that the multiplayer was implemented well. 😄

The concept of stacking has been proven time & time again to be an addictive one - The only thing I would say is that the 'tick' movement makes it super easy to play. It would be nice to have normal non tick style movement & good physics as well. I felt that sound could have made a difference (I now see how much no sound has hampered my game's exp lol) nice work with the pigeon haha

Well made game - high 'rivalry' feeling from this one for me. Good artwork, sound, music, controls. I at first skipped the tutorial & then went back to learn how to play 😂

(1 edit)

I can tell there were alot of system links/bridges which took alot of dev-time to code but this one was a tough one for me to play. :( Idk what I was doing wrong but I couldn't form a team :(

Cats & Pizza? Guys will look at this & say 'hell yeah'.
Super polished artstyle, very high res pixel artwork which I haven't seen in the jam so far. Responsive controls as well. Great step-by-step making of pizza too. Honestly I have nothing bad to say about this game haha.
Curious if this was a team game or a solo game (no mention of any members on the page so I assume it is a solo entry? )
