  • The increase in speed makes the simple endless runner fun, but not too much variety gameplay wise. The game could use some polish such as the glass shattering into pieces, and some more interesting environment pieces. The crow acted more like a hinderance than a companion as its just stuck on your screen usually just blocking your vision. You could make the crow fly higher and then swoop down when the player puts the hands up instead
  • I think the speed and feel of the game is the best part of it. The areas that have let you down was theme in particular i think the eagle companion is a good idea but the rivalry aspect isnt suited. The eagle also could use a bit more polish perhaps it flys on the screen when you press jump and if you hold jump it stays above you otherwise it keeps flying forward.

Hey Andrew !

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

Hi Ilias

I'm ok, ty, what about you?

For me, game jams are good to cheer up a bit when you're trying to get everything done in a small amount of time, or at least prioritize to get a finished project. Quick to try new things (techniques or design) or ideas and as another way to learn unity. Then think what can be made more convenient, unified, so that next time it will be easier to make a game.

Here's a pretty good post from a fan of game
jams https://idumpling.com/confessionsobservations-of-a-serial-game-jammer-after-40-j.... I agree almost entirely, except that I also try approaches at jams with writing code cleanly and conveniently to use later in my work.

I think for a game to be successful it has to stand out in some way, also when developing it's good to understand who will play it and take that into account when developing.

Good luck in development!
Andrew

Hey Andrew, I am good, thank you for asking.

And thank you for answering and interacting; much appreciated. Yes, for some developers, it can be an enriching experience where we can learn new skills and improve old ones. When properly made and worked on, game jams are nice experiences.

I'll be checking that link you sent me, the game jams fan.

So then , good audience targeting is a must-have for a successful game.

Yes, but remember that's all only my opinion, reality can differs and you can have own purpose and benefits from jams )

Submitted

Yes, I do understand, but opinions, especially when they are proper and well-defined, can sometimes accumulate and prove beneficial for more projects.

great game, i liked how quickly it sped up, and smashing through the glass was fun!

maybe the bird is a bit overpowered; as far as i could tell you were able to just hold onto it for a long time? maybe a cooldown would be good, and that would also allow it to be out of view most of the time like other people have said

overall, a good entry especially for 2 days of work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing and propositions.
Yes, probably timer or decrease bird power with time it's an option, like quick help at last second. Although long fly don't guarantee to land on platform )
Looks from comments I need to do something with bird view ) Even though it hides the appearance of platforms.

Submitted

Nice Hyper Casual runner :) It's funny that the bird falls with the runner xD

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!
Probably better for bird to fly away.

Submitted

Simple but addictive, shame about the bird, another way you could fix it is to make it swoop down as the arms raise up :)

Developer

Yeah, it's an option, thanks!

Submitted

As in other comments, the bird blocks the view a bit. The camera could be a little further back and a little wider. So we can see ahead clearly. Maybe 2 more paths could be added to make the game more interesting (Like Subway Surfers). Other than that, it's a pretty good game well done

Developer

Thanks for playing and suggestions!

That bird was definately too big and on a spot which is quite crucial for you to survive.

Simple endless runner with good music to keep you going!

Developer

Thanks for feedback!
Bird need to be big to carry on )

Submitted(+1)

Pretty simple but kinda addictive. The bird is blocking the view of the incoming obstacles, but the game is still pretty simple like that so I guess you should keep it that way, otherwise it would become way too easy..

Developer

Thanks for playing and feedback!
When I tested bird not blocking much, maybe need to make more tests.
And yeah, there definetely need some additional features.

The player's speed increasing & him becoming the flash is super fun. If that wasn't there this would be very dull. This also feels like google chrome no interest dinosaur game but in 3d and different props. Pretty sure this was a very late join to the game jam & had a day or two only to make this so keeping that in mind well done on the submission! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for feedback.
Not so late join but have above 2 days when I can do something )

Submitted

Is the bird blocking the view or is it supposed to be like that?

Developer

A bit of ) Does it really look bad?
Partially it's because road genrated base on player speed, and if you generate many at once they can be not actual, although I have idea to move them a bit depends on speed.

Hey,

"Run to Survive" Developer. I played your game.

What tools/software did you use to develop your game?

Some feedback:

You should have the companion mesh separated from the player's mesh, as it seems to jump when you jump

it' is a little inaccurate.

Also, when you fall, the companion mehs falls too or gets stuck into the prop mesh in front,

which is also a little inaccurate.

You could also use some slight variations in terms of 3D, but I suppose you didn't have too much time to work on your game.

the characters choice could be changed

i suggest you try like a marble or  something else , for the player character and the companion ( just as a proposition)

Developer

Thanks for feedback. I use Unity and few models.
Meshes not merged ) Crow followed by code, but yeah, I want to make that he fly away on fall, but yeah have only above 2 days to make it.
