Very cool! I really enjoyed getting more comfortable with the inputs and dashing, while looping :D
A timer would have been really nice, and would have made me restart the game a few times more haha
Music and sfx really fit, nice game! We can easily see it scale with a few more levels!
Im glad you enjoyed it! A timer is needed, ik, but I felt like I was in a rush some what so I wanted to submit the game at least 24 hours before the submissions closed or earlier. A post-jam update is planned so follow my account if you want to see that!
I really liked the idea of lapping in a platformer. I feel like with a small amount of tweaking this could become really fluid. Trying to work out the right path and time the jumps was important, and sometimes I felt like my key inputs weren't hitting quite right.
The simple graphics really aid the narrow focus required for doing the laps quickly. Perhaps consider making the laps timed (without punishment for long laps) and displaying the lap time at the end.
Glad you enjoyed it! Probably the reason some of the inputs werent working was because of how I made the dash. I originally thought it was half-assed but then I thought it was more unique and interesting. Unoike most dashes, where you move x pixels forward in a certain direction, this acts as a boost to your momentum and helps keep it high. Like some other control schemes, it could take getting used to, but it is a cool thing imo. Makes the thing feel more fluid and controllable.
A postmortem update is planned with more levels, timers and PR's, and a few tweaks and such. If you want to see that eventually, follow my account so it can appear in your itch.io feed!
Cool game. Felt like there was a bit of mastery gained as you continued to do laps. I felt like I was getting better and better as I played.
Please check out my game as well, thanks: https://itch.io/jam/black-and-white-jam-8/rate/1483089
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing! I also checked out your game just a little bit ago and gave a (long.... lol) comment giving some of my thoughts!
Congrats on the first jam! I like the concept of having laps and a finish in a platformer. I think once you flesh that out more, you'll have something really cool. The jumping could use a little more weight but movement felt good otherwise. Objective is pretty clear between the HUD and being clear on what you're supposed to touch and what you're not. Great job!
Thanks for playing! Im glad you enjoyed it! I plan on making a postmortem update to the game a little into the future so if you want to see when that coems out you can follow my account and have it show on your feed! :)
Congrats on finishing your first game jam! Great game!
Glad you enjoyed it! I plan on a future update, so if you want to see that, follow me!
Hi,
the controls felt amazing, like I love them. The lo-fi music on the background wasn't really a fit for this type of game though, I think an 8-bit type of beat would've added a bit more to the aesthetic. The art or the game was simple, but perfect for a platformer (shiny things are good, spiky things are bad :)) and you just nailed it with the idea itself, which I have not seen before!
Keep up the good work!

Glad you enjoyed it! The lo-fi music was just a quick decision and found some free to use music that sounded nice and calm. I personally dont enjoy 8-bit music , though I hope I get a friend to help in the future with the music, as I do plan on a post jam update. So follow me if you want to see an update :)
wow this game was a lot of fun the controls are smooth the game was a bit easy there wasn't any reall threat
Glad you enjoyed the game! but it's only a demo, more is to come in the future, expect a bunch of spikes. Follow if you want to know when I release my post-jam update!
racing game and/or it's general concept is pretty popular these days, but I've never seen someone put that into a 2d platformer. and It goes well with the theme!
the minimalistic atmosphere is something that I love, and this game does it really well. fixing player to a center of the game screen is a great idea, so is fitting entire scene to be visible all time so I don't get lost.
the physics is a bit smooth-ish for my preference, as I'm more used to more tight control when it comes to a 2d platformer. making it just a bit tighter will greatly improve the experience for sure.
also this game has continue feature! great QoL improvement that's rare to see in jam game.
overall a nice experience!
Im glad you enjoyed it! I usually never see many racing platformers as well, other than stuff like Fall Guys.
My favorite part of the thing is the movement too. I prefer the smoothness as I think it fits better with the speed. Though a fair bit of this is personal preference when it comes to what good movement is, while the rest is somewhat objective, as I think theres limits to how floaty or tight the movement can be before it feels bad.
I also plan on adding a save/load system so the continue button can be much better used. That and a lot of other new features and improvements are planned in an upcoming post-jam update, so follow me if you want to get notified of the update on your feed!
This was a pretty fun game. Once you get the flow of the controls they are really satisfying and intuitive!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I planned on making a post-jam update and maybe(?) in the forseeable future, a full release! Follow my account if you want to get notified of any updates.
Nice game! The only suggestion I have is that tapping the jump button could produce a short hop, which might make some levels faster to complete (specifically level 3). However, very nice game overall, I'd love to see people speedrun this!
I was definitely thinking about that as well as a few other features! I plan on making a post-jam update so if you want to see that, follow to be notified when it comes out. Glad you enjoyed it though!
Super fun game! Really enjoyed the concept and trying to get faster every time I need to loop! Good use of the theme and also the cover looks super good!
Great work!
