How does your game fit the theme?
The game is about entering magical doors to find out which items lie behind it. Once the player have discovered the contents of a door, they must remember which door contains which item and use this knowledge to match items of the same type. If you try to enter doors with non matching items the undead are spawned which cant be killed only avoided using your trusty dodge. Also the doors are portals that will teleport you to another door that in the level which means you will only find out once you enter the door. More reasons to ask whats behind the door.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code from scratch, Got the model assets from synty store and modified , UI assets from the Layer Lab amd game-icons.net which have been modified, music is by Joel_Steudler, SFX from free sound and zsplat which have been modified in audacity.

This is a crazy idea for a matching game mix-up! I love it!

Developer (1 edit)

Thankyou I think this would make for a great casual couch co op!

I admired this as much specially when you cant abuse just going random doors because that would spawn an enemy each time.. so i had to use my memory for once! i loved it, each part of it, i reached 4 levels but my human RAM cannot compete with this xD, amazing game!

Developer

Haha thankyou for giving it a try! Feedback is appreciated!

The idea is cool. The enemies could become overwhelming very quickly though.

Developer

I know will fix that after the game jam is done!

Nice, amazing design and art, impressive!!!

Developer

Thankyou much appreciated!

Cool game, perfect concept for the jam. Was it intended an enemy always spawns at the first door you open, before you have any item to match?  I got really mixed up alot with the teleporting around, other than that, Awesome work!

Developer

Thankyou for the play! ummm yes but we could do without that as well for now the mechanic just spawns an enemy when you enter the door. Where as it should only do that on a no match. Teleporting need to polished by the influence came from those scooby do movie :D where they keep going though doors during a chase :D

Absolutely love how the assets come together to create such a vibrant atmosphere. The music and gameplay are spot on, and the UI is a delight. It's clear a lot of thought went into this. !

Developer

Thankyou for the feed back! Its always nice to hear some liked something you made!

Amazing gameplay, movement, attacking enemies and balance! Overall experience is great!

10/10, best game on the gamejam!

Developer

Thankyou for the feed back really enjoyed your game as well.

Because you spawn in a somewhat random location after coming out of a door, sometimes you would be surrounded by several enemies, which was annoying, especially when you didn't locate your new positon right away. Maybe give the player some i-frames or increase the visual clarity of where the player spawns after going through a door.

Also, as others have pointed out going to the main menu induces some pretty nasty bugs.

Still, a pretty fun game!

Developer

Thankyou for the constructive feed back! That's a great idea maybe a particle effect when you teleport or even when you get close to the door it shows you where you will TP. I did however want to keep the player guessing but i guess it would help since too much is going on. thankyou once again!

The assets are used in a very good way, music is nice and gameplay feels good. Also liked the UI. Nice game

Damn the game is great and very well made, love the idea fits the theme great

Developer

I'm glad you liked it. The game start with influence from those scooby do cartoon were they are being chased by enemies and they keep going through doors and coming out of another. Thankyou for the feed back.

Very fun game! The last stages get very challenging. You managed to stay focused on the Game Jam theme! I loved the game mechanics in general. The animations and movements are very smooth.

Developer

Thankyou! I really appreciate the feedback!

It took me a round to realise what the go was, this was great, like everything art, music and game mechanic were solid. The enemies were able to overwhelm you quickly, and I did have the issue of not quite going to the door and getting stuck and beaten to death haha

Developer

Thankyou for the great feed back. Yes I wanted to create a push mechanics to push enemies out of the way however time did not allow it.

Very interesting, but VERY confusing. Also needs some balancing, sometimes enemies are just overwhelm you, and theu're just keep spawning, as you can't guess the right doors from the start, it seems.

Also starting from main menu bugs your amount of points in some way.

Visuals are very nice tho, as well as theme match, good job on these ones)

Developer (1 edit)

Thankyou for the constructive feed back and once the jam is over I'm going to make some changes after a lot of this feedback. Balancing is much needed of course. I wanted to add a mechanic to push enemies away as well but due to the lack of time couldn't go through. Menu Bug is game breaking I might make an attempt to fix it.
FYI: Gate runner is really good! Clean mechanics, Great music, Great UI well done!

Nice concept, but it was really hard for me to understand what I was grabbing and from where. Got very confused, very quickly, even after understanding the visual cues, it felt strange. Really nice variety of enemies and very good presentation.

Developer

Thanks sven yea I got that feed back from a few people I wonder how i could make it less overwhelming.

Cool idea, great job!

I think there is a lot to this game and it's really cool. It is also pretty clear that the limited time affected it, as there is a lot put in place. The enemies are cool, and I love the dodging. It is a fun take on a matching game. I do think it would have been nice if we could roll through the enemies, or have some way of getting through the big hordes. Great job, though.

Developer (1 edit)

you know you are correct!  I wanted to add that as a mechanic where you could push enemies just a tiny bit back but had to scrap it because of time.

Submitted

Awesome idea, very easy to pickup and start playing! My high-score was 1054… The multi-shot enemies are tough! The enemies felt smooth and fair, great job with the AI!

Developer

Thankyou for the appreciation. If you had to add or change a few things what would you do? any suggestions?

Submitted

Great game! Especially love the UI. Mechanics took a bit to understand, but overall pretty fun! Oh yeah, and if you spam spacebar, he hyperventilates.

Developer

Thankyou! How do you think I could make it easier for people to pick up the mechanics? Any suggestions?

Submitted

Maybe instead of just having a slideshow tutorial, perhaps guide the player through how to play. That would probably be more helpful.

This is a really clever idea for a matching game, I had fun with it. Only problem I had was sometimes I got teleported to a door and immediately walked thru it cuz of the direction I was walking prior to teleporting. I made it to level 4 and realized my memory is horrible lol. Nice work!

Developer

Ah you caught on to a problem that I was having too. First I thought that id keep the direction restricted for a few seconds to turn away from the door but unfortunately that takes away control from the player. I wonder How I could solve that problem?
