In what way does your game fit the theme?
The game is based around two completely independent systems: player movement and the behaviour of an AI companion. While the player has to navigate through different levels in typical 2D platformer fashion, he has to fully depend on his companion to clear never-ending waves of enemies - these two strangers are strangely only stronger together! A unique procedural upgrade and ability system will make sure, that no playthrough is the same as the one before.
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
The only external assets I used are icons of an UI package by Code Crash, and because I ran into last-minute issues with my sound design, I took some clips from the "The Essential Retro Video Game Sound Effects Collection". Everything else is done by a single person, me. This includes game design, programming, story, the music and everything else HEX & AGON is showcasing.
This has been my first entry to any game jam and the first somewhat complete game I ever created. Please enjoy.
Oh, and I will also work towards a full release on steam. That's how much I liked working on it. :)

Good gameplay, nice graphics. The upgrade system is enjoyable.
One small change I’d add is each level being a checkpoint. Getting kicked back to the main menu on death is a bit too punishing, especially given the long dialogue/tutorial at the beginning.
Hi there! Thanks for the feedback. The game will eventually be split into different game modes. A story mode, with more focus on the characters, development, exploration and the ability so save and reload your progress anywhere at any time. And a speedrun mode with no dialogue, fast gameplay, dedicated timers but no save/resume option. I just didn't have time to implement such a system and wanted to make sure that the overall idea of the game gets across in this demo, despite some of its technical flaws. Hope you understand. :)
Very interesting I must say. I love post-processing too, but I think at times you may have slightly overused it, to the point where it almost became an eye sour. But most of the time you used it very well to add a lot of depth, atmosphere, and mystery to the world, I think it should just be turned down a bit. When the jam is over I'd definitely be interested in seeing how you continue the game. Oh yea, loved the dialogue system, the seekers, and the art style! (Minimalism is truly the savior for non-artist game designers lol). Super curious though, for post-processing, did you use the URP or a different system?
Thanks for your thorough review! Exactly what I need for further development.
The "overdone" post processing only applies to being near a portal. As they only spawn after collecting all shards in the level, I thought I'd give players a hint where to go to, should they collect all. But yeah, will definitely need some more polish!
Art is the only thing I can't do myself, so I had to get good at working with those kinds of standard assets haha. And it's URP without lightning though, so just the post-processing stack and a colour palette.
Very atmospheric!
It is! I'm very excited to further improve upon this brute-forced demo.
A really awesome concept and the game looks amazing! The platforming can be a bit janky though and no option to skip dialog kinda smothers a second playthrough. But the story and dialog itself is really good!
Thank you! I intentionally skipped the dialogue skipping (HA) for this build because most people only play for a few mins anyway before going to the next jam game and I wanted to make sure the concept and feeling gets delivered.
The game is being made with speedrunning in mind though, so there will eventually be options to speed up the pacing.
Great concept! I like the simple graphics and the use of hexagons, the music has a nice atmosphere to it as well :)
Thanks! It's really just standard unity sprites (because art is the only thing I CAN'T do), a colour palette and post-processing lol
Nice game, option of skipping some dialogues would be really nice, cause you can get stuvk in one place and you have to end run, dialogues are nice. Music is pretty nice, and whole game looks and feels good. Maybe except that hexagon first, when u r moving on the edge xd. Still good job :3
Hey there! Thanks for playing. You can skip dialogue with right klick. Sorry if that isn't obvious. I just ran out of time with so many things. Doing this for the first time and solo on top of that has been really stressful - although fun! But I'll keep working towards a full release of the game. Follow, if you're interested in that. :)
I know how you feel and understand, Good luck with the development :3
Also you can rate mine, if u had time
Will put it on my list!
The visual is just right, i would play with some shaders to approach it to a more polished final version.
I cant believe you did this in just one week.
Feel free to contact us if you need some feedback for the final release.
If you would like to check our game and rate it too we will apreciate the Dev Suppurt. https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/923455
Code Hug!
Thank you Turtle Games!
The graphics are really just the default unity sprites, a colour palette and post-processing. As there will be many more kinds of enemies in the game, all with unique colours, I wanted to make sure players always have visual feedback to what is going on at all times, as it is a fast-paced game - so this minimalistic style probably won't change. I ran into some technical issues the last few hours of the jam, so that's a shame, but other than that I'm really proud of the product! I'll play your game for sure. How many people worked in your team?
5 people, some with experience some not.
Were all a bunch of friends
Woah, that’s an amazing visual style, the look of it is minimalistic, yet very interesting and beautiful. The music is pretty atmospheric too, really helps settle in that eerie void mood. What really surprised me was that apparently the narrator voice-over in part 2 of the intro is voiced by multiple people? I only noticed it because I got stuck on my first run and had to restart, which also takes me to my only criticism: I really wish there was a way to restart the level or at least skip the intro, since sitting through numerous textboxes multiple times is a bit boring.
Other than that, beautiful game.
Hey there! Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback! I didn't put the option to skip the intro sequence into the submission, because it is really sets the tone and is quite memorable - and most only really play the first few mins anyway. You can skip text with right click though (not sure you knew).
The game is being made with speedrunning in mind, so when I work on the full release of the game, there will be options for faster pacing. :)
Oh! I tried multiple buttons but I did not imagine trying right click, thanks! :)
You know how it goes, i love it!
:>
Great game! Really liked the effects!
Ran into a bug where the dialogue didn't start efter I picked up the first power-up, so I had to restart, but other than that I really liked it :) I love roguelites so I will definitely keep an eye out for this in the future :)
Check out my game if you have the time! Great work! :)
Thank you for your comment! I really like the potential of the game, too.
The final build somehow introduces some glitches I never encountered before (so I never even had a chance to fix them) and I can't update the build for the next two weeks. That really puts me off, because otherwise the game is really fun. I will keep working on a official steam release for sure though!

The simple graphics made it easier for my eyes to play after seeing so many pixel art haha
It was an awesome game! Loves the machinics and the simplicity makes it a just pick up and play anywhere game! Awesome work!
P.S do rate mine too :)
Just imagine it with more than one week of stressful solo-development!

I definitely will :)
Really fun game. I enjoyed the simple graphics. Congrats on the first game Jam!!! If you have time, I would love it if you would rate my game as well. https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/928867
Congrats!
Thank you! Will put your game on my list. :)
Simple graphics. great gameplay, and good audio effects and music. If you polish he game just a bit more with the movement, or enemy AI, you're ready for a steam release. Good luck on finishing the game!
That's the plan! I just ran out of time with everything haha.
I just made sure that everyone can see the potential of the game. :)
