In what way does your game fit the theme?
The entire game is pretty chaotic. You end up controlling over 300 characters and trying to fight off hundreds of Shadow Guys.
In a way, you have to let your own army become chaotic to defeat the chaotic shadow siege.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I made all of the code, sounds, and lots of the art, but I did use a RPG tileset by Daniel Thomas.

I love the quite characters. The visuals and animations are really nice. The gameplay is very engaging, having to manage more and more units across the map. I managed to beat it on my second try when I realized that there is strength in numbers and had a lot of fun doing so. Great job!

This game was really fun. Starting quite calm and doing resource gathering. Then things get really chaotic really quickly lol. I enjoyed it so much.

Great chaos👍:-D

I think this is the most fun/inspirational game I've had in this jam. Yes, the art style isn't consistent and you could fix that, but it was a lot of fun, very cute, and absolute chaos. Great game.

Very fun game, I like the idea of upgrading your soldiers, and fighting chaos B)

Cute graphic and fun gameplay! I like the resource gathering time before the chaos begins XD

Okay so on my first attempt I was just lost in beans and didn't really care about there was an invasion coming. I was just chilling and having a lot of fun building stuff and making more and more beans. I was going to rate it 4 (or 4.5 if I could) for game design, but when I saw beans automatically went to nearest house for resources and I could select them with mouse drag I went straight 5.

I loved the graphics of the environment, the music was cool. The game went chaotic when I had to manage so many beans. Overall a great game and a solid entry for the jam. I really have no complaints for the jam.

I would like to make a few suggestions if you want to expand this game after the jam which I think you should definitely into a full game.

  • The art style felt different for beans and the environment, I'm not sure if you were going for this or not, but if you match the beans with the rest of the world they will look even more cute (or cuter!!).
  • Please DO NOT CHANGE the walking animation of beans. It's the most adorable thing I saw and loved.
  • Have a mini map
  • Some UI clipped out of the screen and I had to pan more just to read everything.
  • For the theme it was good to not to mention the controls, but for a full game you should.
  • Create a cute story and have different modes like campaign, endless etc.
  • A way to know which beans are idle. and how many are gathering food, wood, gold etc.

These suggestions are for the full game IF you decide to make once the jam is over. For the jam the game was excellent. It was a lot of fun. The most adorable game I have played in this jam.

Wow, thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you like it :)

Thanks for the suggestions, maybe I'll actually continue working on this game. Thank you :D

I tried playing chaos mode, didn't really know why it was called chaos mode, because I was just chilling and collecting resources. I was focusing on creating the swordsmith but then out of nowhere, there was just a whole bunch of enemies that seem to just kill all my beans. 10 minutes of hard work... wasted, I wished that there was some sort of warning or at least a description of what is play and chaos mode, because after getting destroyed instantly after a long gathering time, it feels kinda unfun to go back and play it! Anyway, it's really cute, nice graphics, good audio, controls are nice, especially the fact that you can click and drag to select multiple beans. Overall great game!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah Chaos Mode is basically a hardmode, with harder enemies and a suspenseful hidden timer. I'm glad you liked the game! :)

i harvested every natural resource and the beans are now forced to watch as every single one of their friends slowly dies due to starvation

i died as soon as the shadow siege came
guess im not enough of an epic gamer for this

This game was so much fun! well done!!

Thank you! Your game looks fantastic, by the way!

Your description says you can control over 300 but I only needed about 200 to win :P

This was a ton of fun. What an incredible experience for a game jam, well done! The goal here was pretty straight forward. I was a little worried that you'd try to string out multiple waves, but the single wave after 12 minutes felt appropriate chaotic and then it was done. Perfect. The lil beans are adorable, and I like to think them using pickaxes to collect berries and wood is just an idiosyncrasy of their bean-ness and not a jam developer deprioritizing animations lol. I think the entire experience could be sped up just a hair: faster move speed, lower building/upgrade costs, but overall it was pretty good. Unsure what the dining hall does though!

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Congrats on completing the jam and making this fine little game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah I agree the dining hall is not explained in the game. It makes your Beans mine objects faster. Thanks for the kind words :)

Submitted(+1)

Ah! Ok, I had guessed it was a passive movement speed, but I couldn't tell. Cool :)

Nice game! The resource gathering reminds me of Age of Empires II. Good job!

My god, how have people not played the hell out of this yet? The audio is a bit borked but other then that the game's phenomenal! I played for probably upwards of like an hour, the game's cute enjoyable to play and when the music is playing it absolutely slaps. Good job to the dev, was honestly shocked it was made by one guy. GG!
