In what way does your game fit the theme?
In SplitShip you control a small little character, who can shoot, and move around freely. An enemy will spawn which the player must shoot. However killing an enemy will create more. You will soon feel the chaos as you dodge bullets, pick up health drops and fight waves of enemies, whilst the music pulses and bright explosions fill your screen. Challenge yourself to get a high score and share your results with others!
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I did most of it myself but I had a little help from good old Brackeys tutorials and some royalty free sounds.
Cool game, it gives me a geometry wars vibe. as others pointed out having a continuous shooting through holding the left click button and fighting the movement could make the game feel more responsive. Congrats on your first jam.
If you have time I'll appreciate if you check out my game
This is a really cool game! The graphics look good and atmospheric, and the soundtrack is really fitting. It gets chaotic very quickly, but in a fun way, and exploring the different enemy types is interesting.
Actually, the game is pretty similar to mine in terms of gameplay, which is hopefully a good thing :D
Anyway, well done, I recommend giving this game a try!
Not really polished? Dude, for your first propper game, this is amazing!
The only thing I would really ask for is the ability to let the mouse button pressed instead of raping the never dieing puke out of my left mouse button.
Very good, perfect game for when you're bored in class or whatever 13 year olds do these days.
We enjoyed the visuals of the game, the audio was pleasing too. We would say it is a very solid concept. Maybe autofire or some kind of upgrade would help to make the game a bit easier, since it is quite hard after some time.
Cool game! I noticed that the aim is a bit off sometimes? Like, maybe 10-ish degree off. Also, I got stuck and became invisible more than once. Might want to look into that. Other than that and maybe add auto fire, this game is really good! Maybe add a bit more stuff, but as a game jam game, especially the first game jam game you made, you did a really good job!
I absolutely loved this game! The graphics and the gameplay were both very polished!
Game feels really polished! Visuals are cool too. Sometimes simple is better! :)
You said it was not so polished, but this is a lot more polished than many games in the jam! A really great job! The art is very simple, but all the effects make it really cool. The music fits the artstyle really well as well. The subtle screenshakes, soundeffects and beautiful explosions make the game feel great to play. All-in-all amazing job on the atmosphere and the visuals! :D
I guess if I had to give some criticism it has to be about the gameplay. In principle it is really good and clear. The two enemy types are clearly different and interesting. The health spawns were also very clear, but I think those were a bit too powerful. They fully reset your health, which for me meant that I could not really lose. It was always possible to at least avoid most of the enemies, but the damage I unavoidably did take did not matter because there would always be a health spawn in time. Perhaps the spawn chance/time of those health things could be reduced over time? In that way the difficulty scales a bit more. Just an idea :)
What I really liked was that there was a red region before an enemy actually spawned. This made it so that you could not walk straight into an enemy that spawned in front of your face, but you could anticipate what would happen. A little problem was that at some points half the screen was red, so it became a bit difficult to see what was an actual enemy and what was a spawn region.
I am sorry if this is a bit too much criticism. I just really liked the game so I guess I am just a bit enthousiastic, haha. Great submission! Especially if this is your first real game. I am truely impressed :)
absolutely incredible game, really well done on the theme and mechanics
Incredible work! the graphics are very polished and the gameplay is definitely chaotic! although my finger did get tired after a while haha
Man, Your game is really cool. You definitely need to expand the idea. Music and visual is just awesome.
I'd love you to play and rate mine. Its unique platformer and top-down blending. This is my first jam BTW. Please check the gameplay, I bet you will love the challenge when you play by yourself.
Great production values; the art style and "level up" audio felt great. I would've enjoyed more if I could've held the mouse button down to rapid-fire instead of clicking each individual bullet, but it was still pretty fun. Good work!
