How does your game fit the theme?
Every time you die, you begin as someone completely different.
The person you're playing as is randomly generated, and never the same.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, I 3D-modelled and coded everything myself,
except for the sound effects specified in the credits.
Comments
Hey, I'm glad most issues you encountered are technical ones.
The biggest problem here is that I didn't have time to implement a graphics settings menu, so everyone doesn't necessarily need to have a good time playing. This will be a must-do after the jam though.
The text IS goofy lmao, originally it was supposed to be way cooler, even narrated and a different font, but i ran out of time.
If it has potential, I'm more than happy to completely finish this. Thanks for pointing stuff out!! And for going in-depth.
The visuals, sounds and gameplay is all okay. The stories is funny, and there are some really funny ways to die. Overall an okay little jam game.
Positive Feedback
The game has a lot of depth and makes you feel a weird emotion of nostalgia, loneliness and hope at the same time, really enjoyed the life mechanic and would love to have more types of citizens, the world fits perfectly with the vibe and the text even gave me goosebumps once. Overall good game, keep it up!!!!!!!
Recomendations
This game has so much potentiall, reminds me of the "Egg theory" of the universe creation and meaning, you could took more inspiration of that, being able to see your past lifes as normal citizens, and that would give even much more feeling and depth to the game.
Also fix some of the insta-deaths, sometimes when i revived i would inmediatly get hit by a car and die again.
Nice environment of the city, really fits with the theme in my opinion
Very interesting use of the theme.
I managed to survive 2 times, with the homeless and with the pizza delivery. The others.... I think i died in every possible way lol. The older guys are completely useless... I always got stabbed on the neck cause they can't run (nice touch though)
Nice design on the town!
My only critic is the destination arrow, sometimes invisible. But even with this issue, it helps a lot to reach your target.
I had fun retrying several times.
Great work!
Finish work, walk, crush by a tree...
Also, saw a car just pushing a guy around...
The school building is fake, I tried to enter the school as a pizza delivery boy D:
Overall, I didn't enjoy the walking and avoid stuff process. There isn't much reward or motivation for me to keep doing. I gave as a old man after entering the gate to find out only homeless man can exit the other gate on the other side. :(
If your game wanted the player to feel stressed, you definitely succeeded. One play-through, I had a homeless person try to get to the bridge. I barely managed to make it in time. When the screen went white and the stabbing sounds played, I was afraid I had died just outside my new residence but thankfully the message was a good one, I had made it.
I also really like the idea of certain people only being able to access certain passageways. Maybe making this clearer for each profession would improve this game mechanic. For example, maybe the homeless person can hide in trash to become invisible to the people chasing them.
Overall, a very solid game for what was done in one week.
Walked 10 feet from spawn and a lamp post fell on my head, that made me laugh. Also managed to fall down a sewer hole without even moving which made me laugh even more 11/10
*spawns in for the first time* *gets crushed by a lamp before the camera even fades in* I have no idea how rare of an event that is but it was hilarious.
A fun and creative endless lifetime city simulation.
Pros: beautiful models, really innovative concept, nice polish, spacial audio is well done, legitimately a little bit stressful to have everyone chasing you
Cons: gameplay isn't particularly rewarding as the only objective is to run from point A to point B while avoiding people as though everyone's a murderer (something I routinely do in my day-to-day life). The gimmick definitely carried it but having just one more actual gameplay element (i.e. something you have to pick up before reaching your destination) would have really helped it.
Nitpicks: the cars and people were a bit janky, the quests were pretty repetitive even though it was randomized, there was no way to exit the game without tabbing out unless the pause button was just one I didn't think to press. All things I'm sure you're plenty aware of and things that didn't impact your rating at all but if I'm leaving thorough reviews they still feel worth mentioning on the 0.00000000001% chance you didn't already think of them.
Overall one of the more unique games I've tried and definitely an entertaining concept. Also Building a polished game in UE within a week is a hefty task so huge props for that.
Thanks for the feedback!! You are completely correct about everything.
The cars + people are janky, because I implemented these on the last day. But I'm glad you like the visuals, I spent a lot of time on that part.
Also adding an additional gameplay element is a really good idea, I'll think about that post-jam.
And yes I did think of some of these before, but it's always great to get confirmation from others what to focus on, thaank you :)
Love the concept, I laughed out loud when I respawned only to get instantly stabbed by a guy running up to me.
Always good to find something different! you realy got creative with the characters. I liked my 24 years old pizza delivery guy, he was zooming to deliver the pizza but got stapped in the end. i guess someone realy liked pizza.
Nice game! Quite creative and fun concept. I died crushed by a tree literally in front of my house objective!!
Love the concept of this game, very interesting. I kept dying it seemed like, however the idea and the atmosphere was there! I felt terror when I was trying to deliver a pizza to a house that was FLOODED with weirdos running back and forth for one to come up behind me and stab me in the neck. Very good idea.
Also very cool your going to continue updating post game jam. Good Luck
Really enjoyed the idea and implementation of the theme you have going here. The atmosphere was really fitting and the lamp posts falling did jump scare me at times, I will admit. As far as I'm aware, there wasn't any real end game goal? I enjoyed trying to successfully make it in the lives but seem to have no purpose/progression. Really enjoyed the concept and would love to see more out of it!
