Really creative and solid idea! It is hard but I think you totally can make it a bit less hard while still maintain its unique core mechanic by putting some powerups in the game. Touch control would be nice in this game too I guess. Overall one of the best game in the jam!
Yes, 100%! Power-ups are something I thought a lot about but knew I wouldn't have time to make within the jam window. I really want to put holes at the end of the table and have special balls you can pocket / knock into them to gain the power-ups, to further play into the pool theme.
Thanks for the feedback!
Definitively an original idea for sure, i never thought i'd see pool mixed with bullet hell but hey that's game jam magic right here :p
When you say the game is hard well you're not joking, i had to use the skip menu cause it's really hard to defend the 8 ball and i wouldn't have been able to see much of the game without it.
Still, solid entry i really like the epic music, the very hd looking assets and the devil guy on the title screen \m/ 猫 _ 茅
Great job to you and your artists you guys made a cool game :)
The difficulty was really hard for me to gauge, but I'm glad you enjoyed despite it being so hard.
I'll pass on your compliments to the wonderful people who helped with the art :)
No problem difficulty is hard to adjust in a jam context, and also your artists definitively earned it :)
Genius idea, I love it! The fact that a billiard, a game that has been known to be remade over and over with the same style of gameplay in some mobile games, this is the first game that I've seen that is really unique from the bunch! It's like the same game, but with a different strategy, awesome.
Haha, thanks so much! Someone else commented on how the controls could work well on mobile. It would be fun to finish the game and make that a reality, (though it might be hard to catch people's attention with all those other billiards games in existence already).
I like the concept of this -very unique and cool mix of game play for a bullet hell! I was able to get the 8 ball stopped at the top where it was safe from balls for a really long time -but once it got knocked around it was crazy fun trying to keep it on the table! Cool idea and an awesome entry! :D
Thanks so much! It can't quite rival the sheer variety of gameplay in your game, but I'm glad it kept you engaged :P
Some of the later levels throw in orange balls that spawn in line with the eight ball, so I'm curious if you made it far enough for that to disrupt your strategy.
Ohh staahp xD and not sure as I could only get it to stay against the rail the one time -every other time it bounced and slowly rolled it's way into the inevitable chaos :D -don't laugh but i couldn't get past lv 3 before giving up (geometry is indeed hard :s) I just went back and tried again and still can't beat lv 3
No shame—the game is super difficult (partially by design, because I think it's at its best in the mayhem, but this was also largely a result of me having a terrible gauge on the matter).
You can use the in-game menu (press M to open it) to skip around, and the points are based on how far you make it through each level, so it's not really the intention that people will complete every single one. Based on your experience though, I think that's not really clear, so I've added an explanation (and warning about difficulty) at the bottom of the itch page.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I encourage you to check out level 9; I think you'd enjoy the spectacle :P, though I can't promise it will be any easier.
Oh I didn't realize you could do that! And lol I imagine it is quite the spectacle xD - I will have to come back and try it again in a couple days -right now I'm doing ld jam xD
Ehhh couldn't resist checking it out real quick! :D Hot cup of tea was a spectacle -level 9 was sheer madness!!! Making them the same color as the 8 ball was unexpectedly evil!!! lmao
>:D I originally had them be exactly the same as the eight ball but without an 8 on them, but I ended up changed them to at least be stripy to pull back on the sadism a little.
lol xD
Cool game! I loved how well everything fit together, it's such a simple concept yet executed to near perfection. If you wanted to continue with it, the control scheme would work super well for mobile platforms.
Overall, quality game!
Thanks so much for the feedback!
I had also thought a bit about how well suited the controls seem to be for mobile. I think it might be a bit too ambitious for me right now, but it's definitely something I'll consider trying out once I have a little more experience :)
sweet jesus the music. this is great and i like everything about it. what engine did you use to make this? i'm pleasantly very surprised. one quick issue by the way is i tried to lower the music a tad and the slider doesn't seem to work! anyway, i was wondering if you could try my game out as well as i'm looking for feedback!
Thanks! I whole game was made in Unity. I only got started with it a few weeks ago actually, so in case you're looking into learning it, I found these tutorials by Jasper Flick to be really great for getting started (https://catlikecoding.com/unity/tutorials/).
I'd love to play your game, but unfortunately I can't because I have a Mac :(. Having the players keep their ten seconds going by fighting enemies seems like a great way to force them to take risks though!
(Also, you're totally right about the volume slider. It seems like it's breaking when the game restarts. I'll see if I can upload a patch for that, since that seems like something that's not unreasonable to do during the jam.)
Bullet hell billiards is a combination that works way better than I thought it would. This is my favourite game from this jam so far, excellent work!
Thanks so much! I'm completely with you: I had no idea if the combination would work at all, so I was so happy when I played my tech demo for the first time and it was fun.
My favorite game from the jam I've played so far. Reminds me of clustertruck if you've ever played that game.
I'm really glad you enjoyed, because it's right back atcha w.r.t. games I've played so far :)
I hadn't heard of clustertruck before, but I definitely see the similarity—it looks super fun.
I wish there was an arrow pointing the trajectory of the ball, but that is probably just me being bad at billiard and bullet hells speaking :P
Otherwise, fun game though
Adding some kind of aim indicator for the trajectory was something on my mind that I thought would be really cool, but I didn't think I could pull it off in the window of the jam. Maybe I'll look to add it once the jam is over though :)
Thanks for the suggestion and for playing!
fun and original, definitely haven't played anything similar to this yet :)
Thanks! I had a feeling billiards wouldn't be the first connection people made to bullet hell but I'm glad you enjoyed :)
The art looks really great in your game—wish I could play it! I have a Mac :(
Great game. Original idea and amazing execution.
But isn't the music a little too dramatic? We're saving a ball, not the entire world :)
Depending on the number of levels the game might be too hard. I couldn't beat the 6th level.
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.
I actually was thinking along similar lines as you with respect to the music initially, haha. But I ended up deciding to go with something that was a little too dramatic because I was wanted the you to feel like you were doing epic even though you are just pushing balls around at the end of the day.
As far as being a thematic fit... well, my head-canon for background the game is something like "You made a deal with the devil to become the best pool player in the world, so he gives you this insane training. But if you lose the eight ball, he gets your soul." So if you just imagine that to be the case, maybe the music feels a little bit more appropriate for the situation at hand :P
a really cool approach on the bullet hell genre. i had a great time with this.
good job!
Thanks so much!
