I really like the controls of the slime! and how he can charge up to higher jumps and wall bounce, but it was really hard to control... a lot of the time when I was trying to make big jumps it didn't activate since I left the down button too early, so maybe adding a small time frame in which you can still activate the jump after leaving the down button would help, also, the wall jumps felt really small compared to the jumps the slime managed to make, so adjusting them would help too.

but good job overall!

Thanks for the feedback but I'm a bit confused for the big jump problem. You just have to hold the down button then press up and it does the thing. Were you trying to do those at the same time ? Yeah I think I was a bit cheap considering the wall jump. I'll see what I can do!

And is it me or you are actually part of the people that finished this game ?

I didn't reach the end, it was too hard for me... il try to explain the problem with the jump

Imagen you place your hands on a keyboard, You will have fingers on the left, down and right buttons.

Now say you want to press the up button, You will move the middle finger from the Down button to the Up button.

But in the movement what you also do it stop pressing the down button, And when you try to activate the high jump you need to press Down and then Up, So when i move the finger to the Up button it thinks that i stopped the jump, since the down button isnt pressed anymore.

Hope it helped.

Developer

Ooooh ok I see your problem now, But I mean you can just use the finger that is on the button not being used, for example left, and put it on the down arrow and use the middle finger to press up.  Since your not the only one who sugested that I'll add that. Thx for the explanation.

Very good technically and visually! The puzzles were challenging and sometimes a bit too much - to perform all the complex moves the the controls require but I can see why some people would think that's the whole point! Great job!

I liked the simple but expressive animation of the player character.

The movement was pretty solid but I feel like it could be tweaked a bit to make it even better. They’re pretty minor criticisms and I made a somewhat similar movement mechanic so I’m a bit biased here.

The high jump. I pretty much had to use two hands. It would have been nice if there was a short timer between pressing down and then up that’ll allow the high jump using only one hand.

The wall jump, this could be because it’s close but very different from my wall jump mechanic so I had a hard time with it. I would constantly fall short across the gap trying to get the timing of letting go of one button and pressing the next. Maybe if there was more practice allowed without having to go through the first set of blades I would have mastered it without feeling like I was being punished every time I failed.

Overall, I thought it was a cute little game with a movement mechanic that definitely has potential.

Developer

I've decided to add a video as a way to show you all the game if you could not complete it. I did not show what happens if the timer goes to 0 but I've shown the coins locations and what's the secret.

It's really amazing, tough and easily understandable! Loved the artwork and sfx, always spices up a game (yea trust me I know, I screwed up my audio on this jam)  The movement is a little bloated, I would consider adding a better jump with gravity, and maybe add some particles and effects to juice it up. Overall pretty cool

Remember to rate and play my game too :)

Awesome Job :D

Already rated yours! I wanted the jump mechanic to feel like you're controling a slime but I see what you mean. thx for the review!

It's quite difficult! Anyway, the controls are really good and the tutorial is well implemented. Good game!

Great game. Felt great when I got my fat fingers to work on the tiny arrow keys, but was too much of a struggle to get very far.

Hey.

I have some feedback for your game.

PLEASE ADD MORE CHECKPOINTS.

Seriously,  there should be a checkpoint before the wall jump thing after the tutorial.

Furthermore, forcing me to wait 10 seconds just to try the jumps after the laser thing is so annoying.

Also, please let me use WASD. The arrow keys are super small and I'd often miss the up and down keys, making your game even more infuriating.

I could not beat your game after 40 minutes of trying.

Aaaah I know I know. I'll upgrade the game after the jam. It's my first game ever sorry for that. WASD seems like a common complaint so I'll definetly add that in priority. Being French my keyboard is in azerty, so I thought making it with arrows would make it more accessible... turns out I was wrong...  Again sorry for the frustration caused... I did not intend it to be this hard

Really great audio and visuals. I liked the catchy music and the black and white colors were used very effectively. The lab setting was interesting too and I liked the background a lot. I had a bit of trouble with the controls, especially the high-jump which required you to press down and up. That was challenging for me.

But I loved the vibe of this game. I hope you will continue with it!  Nice job overall! I hope you will play my game and follow me too!

this game is pretty difficult! I had a lot of trouble doing a high jump over the first spiky boxes (right after the first checkpoint). I almost gave up after trying for 5 minutes but finally made it over!

Nice platformer, it was too hard for me as I'm not much of a platformer gamer, also the horizontal movement is kinda slow so the jumps needed to be very perfect. If hard was what you were going for you nailed it

Submitted(+1)

The controls are a little weird for me, but I like the little narrative that goes on. Pretty cool / 10

You lose horizontal momentum super quickly so even the first tough sneak-jump ends up being a bit challenging. Got too frustrated on the last part of the spikes and gave up there. Not a bad game, though! Just tough; I think the horizontal movement could potentially be tweaked so that you can move a bit more while in the air. Nice job, tho! The vibe and art are really nice

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

You went farther than most people well done! sorry for that last part it was a bit of a dick move^^.  If I tweaked the horizontal momentum you might be able to cheese some part sadly so I'm not sure if I'm gonna touch that. I'll try upgrading the game and making a bit more fair after the jam. Thanks for the comment!

I like the music. The controls feel good. I like all the people's faces following you around, that's cool. I got stuck pretty early on.
