I like how colorful the game is and the gun looks cool. The kind of game works well as a dungeon crawl.

Loved visual style and music. Story slides (and the very fact of the story itself) were great!

But it took too much farming. I don't know how many times I've genocided all the tofus to be able to even cheese the sniper at the waterfall intersection, then it took numerous attempts to kill everyone there to level up to finally be able and kill some of the purple knife-bearing monsters, at least by abusing their pathfinding near the ledge... and then I had no ammo left, again.

It looks like the game has some kind of turn-based movement, but it is not really obvious. It works especially strange with projectiles: enemies HP is depleted using hit trace at the very moment you shoot, even though your projectile takes time to reach them, and may even visually miss, because they've already completed their next turn. Very counterintuitive.

there's actually some bugs regarding enemy bullets not despawning properly. the game is a little more evenly paced with that fixed. aside from that,  yes, the bullets actually are raycast based, and thus hits them directly before the bullet gets there. a patch will address that in the future to make it feel a little more fair. Our intent was to actually make the game challenging, farming is optional but there are also several exploits that can get you through faster. I'm not sure if its because its in the context of a game jam, but a lot have complained about the steep climb in difficulty. maybe I should've put on the label calling it "souls like" :)

This would've easily been my #1 game in the jam, were it not for the overtuning of enemies and the scarcity of ammo in the early game. I had to level up weapons to 10 to even stand a chance of defeating the sniper with a single ammo clip, then farm for the cryo rifle so that I can continue to enjoy the game.

Enjoyed everything else about the game. Would be fun to see a balance pass done on enemies and more content added to make it a long game. Well done!

so. tofu.

tofu wrecked me.

and it looked like firm tofu, not silken tofu.

you can make pies that look and taste like cheesecake with silken tofu.

Submitted(+2)

Tofu is the best character.

I guess there's nothing more after you kill the two mechs? Not that there's not already quite enough in the context.

I enjoyed the game, I'm always in for a turn-based shooter, and this one is competent, "Stuck" mid air bullets are cool, the game looks good and plays nice, the dithering in both the intro and in the sky is pretty gorgeous, I grinded a bit and cheesed a lot, a satisfying moment.

Developer

yea, we had 2 levels planned, but that didn't work out. Hoping to release a part 2 in a couple weeks just to complete the story

Smooth movement, nice graphics, there is a story and good sound. But man is this hard and I don´t think, that the mouse movement adds much to the game. Actually I found it quite a bit distracting to look around with the mouse but then be restricted by the dungen crawler style movement.

I think the onboarding could be improved quite a bit. One of the things I had a bit of problem figuring out was how to hit enemies that are either above or below you. I think we could experiment a little more with shooting enemies with elevation in the future and probably refine that mechanic. One of the things we tried to improve on after submission was rotation snapping when you rotated the mouse. Again... This does detract a bit further from the dungeon crawler experience. I really appreciate your super valuable feed back though.

I hope, that I did not sound to negative. This is a really nice entry. One last thing, I am sure I just missed, how to do it, but I could not skip or fast foward the intro sequence and the text came in very slow. That was a bit aggravating.

Developer

oh yea, just hit escape lol

Hint: if you are finding you are running out of bullets, go level up and kill some tofus, they drop like 10-20 bullets 50% of the time

Good job with this game. We loved the ambition and we saw a great variety of monsters in the Doom 2D sprite style. Unfortunately we found it unplayable hard. We couldn't get past the first area where there are lots of guards with guns and after about 20 attempts we gave up. We kept running out of bullets before we could kill the toast monsters. Perhaps we just missed how we get more ammo and the guns seem out of purchasing range. Congratulations on the intro cut scenes, nice story with good graphics. The dither on the sky is a cool effect. The bullet time SuperHot mechanic was very cool and we liked it a lot, although we didn't see very much of it before we died! It would be cool to see a play through video of this to see what we're missing. Great submission. Well done.

the strategy that best works for me is to poke my head out and shoot at the sniper until he dies and drops 100 gems or so. So this about 8-10 times and you'll have enough for the cryo gun. Sorry the game takes a bit of farming early on, but I believe that it gets a lot more fun from there. Definitely check it out again if you have the chance, I'm pretty sure someone will post a video... If not I'll upload one myself this weekend 😊

Great game! Brutally hard (at least for me, lol). The graphics are amazing, really cool cutscene, and I love the "bullet time" where enemy shots take time and move when you move a la Super Hot. Congrats on the jam entry!

always running out of ammo early on and some bugs here and there but love the bright colors and fps crawler mix. with some tweaks to enemy projectiles and balancing it should be pretty cool.

Developer

indeed, balancing I think would pace things out a lot more

Hey! Well done!

I played for abt 2h ^^.

I leveled everything up to the point where I can simply wipe out the whole map and it was a fun journey. Should there be an end? If so, I fear I missed something. But this was really some new touch to the genre.

I loved the progression! In the beginning I thought: Where are my bullets? But then, after some rounds of upgrades it was easier to kill more enemies and get more bullets. From there it went straight on ^^. I died just once! And I was shocked to see my crystals are gone ^^. Never happened again.

The weapons are nice, too although I played foremost the handgun, the ice gun and the boom stick. The others were nice too but i had enough ammo to wipe out the map alone with the ice gun in the end. The flame gun was okay, but since the ice gun does good damage AND freezes opponents it was the weapon of choice.

The level design is really nice and the different spots to camp are well spread. At first I wondered how to open the bunkers but then it was clear. I would have longed for some destruction of the trees tho ^^.

Music and sounds are nice, enemy variety is absolutely enough for such a small game and seeing mechs was a nice surprise :).

I only would have wished for the final fight to kill the killer of my dad. Maybe its in there and i missed it. If so, please give me a hint.

Definitely a well made game and more than I expect from a game jam.

Good job!

Ah one more thing: There is a collider missing in the cavern so one can enter the "twilight zone" ... ;)

I'm so glad I helped waste 2 hours of your life!!!! That's about as good as it gets I guess 😎There is an end, but we didn't get to do much with it. When you kill all 3 mechs the tunnel at the bottom of the cave opens up and a third passage appears. I love it that you found this totally on purpose Easter egg! 🤣

Very solid game!
The opening cinematic sequence is very "cute" and well done.
This is such a weird combination between a real-time fps and a dungeon crawler but you somehow made it work. Good Job!

Shooting while aiming doesn't work too well on my machine tho and it's really difficult.

HostSubmitted(+1)

Gorgeously hand crafter pixel graphics!

Movement works well and the FPS/action combat worked surprisingly well too. Nice touch with the campfire and shop. I found the game to be a bit too difficult for me. I keep dying rather quickly in the open areas. Tried to "snipe" from far but ran out of bullets. Regardless, it's a real nice and fun game. Well done :)

Developer

something something....git gud! Lol

HAHA! I am getting too old for the fast action games :D

Unfortunately the mouse controls are not working under wine so I can't play the game. It looks nice.

I will for sure do more builds for various OS when uploads reopen.
