Did your team create most/all of the graphics yourselves?
No

Did your team create most of/all the audio yourselves?
Yes, all of it

How did you incorporate the theme "FREEZE"?
You're a conductor who has to run around stopping instruments that shouldn't be in the performance. This also affects the music you hear

Super unique idea, and it's right at the core of the theme! I think a lot of games gave players control over freezing AND unfreezing, it's nice to see one where you can only freeze. It works out quite well and feels like being a babysitter lol.

It's great that you made your own music for the game, I think it must have taken a lot of effort! A bit of a pity you can't hear much of instruments that aren't strings as the player lol.

Btw I also did music on my team's game and I also used some strings. In my case it was from the logic pro library. One thing I learned during the jam is modulating expression in midi. I used it to give the strings a bit of a feeling that they are being played for real, that are being kind of faded in and out, so it doesn't sound like someone just pressed the strings button for 1 beat. I used this video to help me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCmH-YMtVPU it's for Logic Pro, but maybe you can find something similar in your DAW if you use something else. Hope this made sense, I just found it super useful and thought you might too!!

Overall a nice idea, and it could get quite varied with different types of music and such! Well done for a solo dev.

Thank you for playing and the detailed review! I think that's a good tip about expression. If this was a longer term project I would definitely spend more time on details like that

I like the idea of this game. Very clever how you mix in the different instruments. Congrats on your submission

Thank you!

I really like the concept of this one and the subtle music introduction when each instrument entered was a nice touch! it might have been a little more fun to me if you just had to click the instrument or aim at them instead of moving to the instrument to be able to freeze it. Thanks for sharing!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it. You make an interesting point about moving vs. clicking. My initial idea was actually to have the player move the mouse and click on them. But I thought it would be difficult to balance the gameplay so it's not too easy or too hard. I also thought limiting the player movement speed might lead to some fun frantic gameplay. Thanks for the feedback!

That definitely makes sense! It's always difficult making those moment to moment decisions for a1 week jam since you usually don't have time for prototyping much

I don't know why, but I really enjoyed the "This is you" bit. Actually I do know why. My family has a recurring inside joke where we say to each other, "This is you..." and then we do or say something nonsensical, which is Not representative of them in any way. It's a lot of fun, try it out for yourself. Just make sure it's totally obviously unrepresentative, or else someone will get emotionally damaged.

Developer

That's amazing. I just threw that in there as an easy way to make sure the player knew what was going on :)

NOT MY TEMPO!

I haven't play a jam game about music before, and I'm glad this is the first! Got a little teased when there was only one level, but it was fun and the music is very nice!

Developer

Thanks, that means a lot. Maybe there'll be more in the future, who knows?

I liked how frantic this could get! You should keep working on this post-jam.

Developer

Thank you, I'll keep it in mind

omg, I love it!!! Keep working on this game even after the jam, it has a lot of potential. As a violinist it's always a joy to see a game about music.

Developer

Thank you for the motivating words! I'm happy you enjoyed it.

Interesting concept, I can already see how chaotic and enyoyable the game could be when adding more instruments to freeze and all the combinations.

Thanks for playing!

Very unique take on the theme! I'm a little unsure what I was supposed to be doing, but I liked all the instruments building up the music over time!

Really interesting entry! The way the instruments mix together is really nice, not sure if there's supposed to be multiple levels because there's a level select, but I was unable to get to one after the first if there are any even with seemingly a pretty high score. Regardless, really fun!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! This was my first solo jam and I unfortunately only had time to make one proper level/piece of music. So I'm glad you enjoyed it!

No problem, was just making sure, the music was great!
