I love these kinds of shooters, and I think vectors are awesome.  Too bad Pico8 doesn't really display vectors well. Great music by the way..

hey

guess what?

this was made in TIC-80 (also a fantasy console)

Thanks for informing me about it, its actually way cooler because its open source and it has superior support on retroarch. Can't believe I was oblivious about it.

Hi!

My record is 65900!

Nice game! Unfortunately, there are many such games, and there is little innovation here, as well as compliance with the theme in my opinion. But if you look at the gameplay, graphics and music, the game looks very harmonious. I am amused by the fact that the game, as you say, uses vector graphics, but visually it looks like a pixel one :).

Regarding the shield, I noticed that it takes more power than you lose from enemy bullets, so I hardly used it :).

It would also be good to add control information to the game itself, as people don't always read the comments and start playing right away. It would also be nice to have an in-game music on/off button as an option.

In general, a good game, congratulations!

hey

About the pixely graphics,

They are actually vectors, its just that the software i used (TIC-80) has a low resolution (240x136), so they appear pixely

For the shield, i was actually considering (and had inmpemented) making x give you 3 bullets at a time at the cost of a faster power decrease, but i found i hardly used it myself, and so removed it, before coming up with the shield

And about the theme... i do agree that the game doesnt make full potential of the theme, but i started this like a week late, and had gone through at least 2 different ideas during that, so this one was a sorta last minute dash to get something ready for the jam.

Thanks for

the

feedback :)

That's a polished game, an arcade shooter done well, congratz

I feel it's always hard to submit a shooter game in a jam as it's very difficult to be innovative in this genre.

That's said, this game masters its subject to perfection: very nice graphiques, lot of cool fx, very good music... If it was released at the golden age of arcade, I could totally see it as a classic!

Perfect retro style, like being back in the 80:s! What is missing is some more colours and variation. Besides, I prefer vertical scrollers with a screen in portait layout instead of landscape layout. It tends to get too hard after while so perhaps you could consider levelling out the difficulty curve slightly?

hey

i was actually planning on using less colors, but i thought if i just used 2,  it'd be hard to tell whats a star and whats a bullet, so hence came the 4 color palette (which isn't even mine, its the marrow 4 palette from lospec)

for the difficulty... I unfortunately didn't have the time to flesh that out... started a week late due to me not be able to come up with ideas, and so i couldn't properly finish it...

thanks for

th e

Great game, i really like the audio, but somehow I don't see the power theme.

Really fun little shooter! Pico8 is awesome so glad to see! Great cohesive feel to the game, just could have used a little more feedback when hit. Overall great job!

hey

fun fact:

this isn't pico8

it's tic80 (also a fantasy console)

Oh dang, I guess I wasn’t paying close enough attention (and didn’t notice that the startup sound is different, the aspect ratio is different haha). Even worse, I used to use TIC80 a bunch too :P
