this fits the "out of control" theme of gmtk2020

wait, without an engine? i wouldn't even know how to start...
that IS impressive.
did you make the descision not to reset the timer when you die? cause boy-oh-boy was this testing my patience. also: dying from spikes that point away from you because of a certain hitbox size did feel unfair. apart from that very competent game and the sky looks super good (as does the rest, but the sky especially, yo know?).
Well, you definitely created a challenging game - good job.
Sometimes it especially gets frustrating when you are in a spawn -> die instantly loop.
Great job creating and submitting a game!
"Don't worry there is relaxing music in the background."
Thanks, I was worried I'd have to suffer in silence! Seriously though. I both love it and hate it. It's such a test of patience, but when you nail a level, it feels pretty damn good. Of course, I don't think it has to be said, but the art is great :)
The graphics are adorable, the music is nice and the sound effects are good. The controls are responsive, even if very limited. A very funny idea for a game, got a chuckle out of me!
However, after getting stuck in a death loop on level three, I would like to say that please, respectfully, go screw yourself xD
Interesting idea, though not one I cared for. Controlling the bird was a struggle, which while I get is the point didn't make for a pleasant experience. Which is unfortunate since it does look and sound nice. Didn't feel it fit the theme.
Fun
Did not enjoy it. Ever had that controller that drifted? Very frustrating. Maybe if you enjoy flappy bird you might like this.
Aesthetics
Fantastic. Reminds me of celeste. Looks professional and could see a commercial game with this art.
Music
Fantastic. Commercial game level quality. Fits the game and isn't distracting.
Sound
Sounds like sfxr. Not a good match for this game art.
Mechanics
You often jump out of view, and mid air jumps only work occasionally. I respect trying new ideas, but forced movement and precision platforming did not feel good.
I could see the potential for a mobile game with this mechanic. I am undecided if this is a genius idea or an awful one. Maybe just have the timed jump by itself, or the force right movement. They seem too much together, but they might work by themselves.
Story
None as far as I am aware.
Theme
It feels like this was designed for the theme "It is a feature not a bug". I don't feel that this qualifies as a game where "Death is only the beginning".
Very happy to see monogame (I assume based on the icon) being used! A great framework, and impressive to be used in a game jam. As you promise the game is super difficult, It’s fair, but I would have liked it if the jump timer reset when the player respawns, it would make the game more predictable. The art is good, you should probably mention the music credit in your sources section. Your git repo seems to be empty too.
Hi there, your github link doesn't include all of the source. Source is everything a user needs to download the files, open it in Unity, and hit Play to play the project.
Your github should look something similar to this: https://github.com/icepol/DeathIsOnlyTheBeginning
